  1. Comments from last night's game in Mauer's first plate appearance: Dick Bremer: "Joe hitting .214, and in my opinion, he has been victimized more than any other player I know with the advanced scouting reports that teams have. When he was hitting championships and perennially hitting over .300, he got a lot of hits to where there are now fielders. He's hit some line drives..." Hall of Famer Bert Blyleven [Laughs. Interrupts] "Well now Dick, he needs to make an adjustment, and he will not do that, so... yeah, I mean, of course, you see in Kansas City, and every ball club - there was so much room down that right field line, but Joe will not attempt to pull the ball. Look at the outfield. Look at Garcia. Look where they're playing. They've got one down the left field line, one in left center, and one in right center. You can say that Joe is being cheated, but Joe is not making an adjustment like a pitcher needs to make an adjustment or anybody needs to make an adjustment." - Mauer has not hit ONE fly ball to RF in the air all year. This includes line drives (0), flares/bloops (0), or any type of batted balls in the air (0). He is now hitting .188 with 0 HR and 0 2B.
  2. OMG. Wow. Mauer. Tie game 3rd inning 1 out Runner on 1st Mauer shows bunt for strike 1. Takes ball 1.
  3. Atta boy, Dozier. Take a good hack, yet find a way on.
  4. True, the few MN media people who have had the guts are Jack & Bert. Bremer did not sound comfortable agreeing with Bert, laughing a little bit. Mauer is clearly looking to walk first and swing second (if he swings, he will not hit the ball in the air to RF), and teams are exposing that. Big time.
  5. 4/14/17 1st Inning 0-0 Runners on 1st and 2nd No outs Pitch 1: Fastball - TAKEN - strike 1 Pitch 2: Curve - TAKEN - ball 1 Pitch 3: Change - TAKEN - strike 2 Pitch 4: Fastball - Fouled to LEFT SIDE (has no business hitting to left side in this situation) Pitch 5: Fastball - TAKEN - ball 2 (just off the plate) Pitch 6: Fastball - chopper to SS - DOUBLE PLAY (again - has no business hitting ball to left side in this situation) 3rd inning Tie game Runner on 1st 1 out Pitch 1: Mauer shows BUNT and TAKES strike 1. Pitch 2: TAKES fastball ball 1. Pitch 3: Mauer shows BUNT and TAKES strike 2. Pitch 4: TAKES ball 2. Pitch 5: CHOPPER to 1B; out at 2B. What's with the showing bunt with 1 out? This is our 3-hole hitter. Honestly; what is going on with him? It's serious, and people are acting like it's not.
  6. Jack Morris made these comments on 4/11/17. Bert Blyleven has made similar comments tonight. Dick Bremer attempted to apologize for Joe, while Bert persisted.
  7. All teams' outfields are shifting to extreme left. It would be interesting to see an opposing team shift two outfielders to the left side (as they all are doing), but bring the RF in from right center and put him behind 2B. Any fielder in the outfield on the right-half side of the field is useless.
  8. I don't care about the first pitch as much as he is taking consecutive fastball strikes with runners in scoring position. 3-2 game today on the road, 5th inning, 1 out, guy on first base, and... Joe (our 3-hole hitter) is thinking bunt. Wow. 2 outfielders shaded far left, and one in right center field, and he hits the ball to left. Runners on 1st and 2nd and no outs and he is hitting the ball to left. What? Even a flare or fly ball to right can be problematic for the defense and he's hitting to left field. Guy takes a fat fastball then swings at off-speed. He needs to regroup; this cannot continue.
  9. SANO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  10. Get into one, why don't you, Kep?! Wow! Smoked!
  11. Twins 3 Tigers 2 Inning - top 5 Outs:1 Runner on 1st Mauer tries to bunt. Wow. 2 outfielders on the left side of the field and 1 outfielder in right center, and he winds up popping up to short left center. They are giving him the majority of right field and he continues to hit it to the left side. What is going on with him? Is he incapable of hitting anything to the right side besides a chopper?
  12. Hit it well but right into the OF shift. Hit that to RF and the bases clear.
  13. Buxton just saved like 2 or 3 runs in that inning.
  14. Oh my LORD - Buxton! 2 amazing catches!
  15. Hughes not looking very good. Get out of this.
  16. Comparison of pitches that were argued can be seen here.
  17. No, it's better to focus on the fact that the pitcher was a lefty in the AB from yesterday, something that I don't even really challenge in the first place. It's a smear tactic, just like ad-hominem arguments, and just like how the idea can be inserted that I am not "getting over Mauer's contract".
  18. Mauer smoked that pitch pretty well, didn't he? Lefty or not.
  19. Mauer had a nice hit today to LF. Anyone care to guess its location? Unhittable. Would like to see him keep that up. Regardless of count (save for maybe 3-0), it should not be outside the scope of reason to take an aggressive hack at a strike. Especially if it is early in the count, bases juiced, and your cleanup hitter is up. Joe swung at a lower % of strikes than any player in MLB last year. I would like to see him swing at more strikes, yes.
  20. I'd like to see Mauer mix in an early-count aggressive swing once in a while.
  21. When is your predicted date? Don't wish to give one? It's the main point of the thread (mentioned in title). Mauer does have to swing the bat hard in order to hit a home run.
  22. The pitch was a strike and was hittable. Please identify a pitch that Mauer has a good chance of turning into productive contact. How about right down the very heart of the plate? Would you consider that to be his hot zone? It's really not; he hit .196 on those last year. When is your predicted date that he will surpass Bumgarner in homers, anyway?
