  1. Can any member create a poll? I have tried to do so, without success. I have checked the box for creating a poll, but cannot seem to figure out the next step. Never mind, I figured it out -- you need to post then the poll options come up. NOW, please explain how to delete a dumb thread like this one.
  2. Is it possible that Diamond, Walters and DeVries might all make it as MLB starters?
  3. What is the problem with Mauer playing RF? Does it really make sense to risk his knees on charging a bunt?
  4. "Hating" seems like a strong word, but I share your view that there has been excessive pessimism considering their performances thus far. I think that people are focusing on their minor league stats and they assume that Walters and Diamond have mediocre ceilings. However, it seems possible that one or both of them may prosper over the long run. And until DeVries gets blown out a few times, I will be optimistic about him as well.
  5. I would give DeVries a chance, and if he does not work out, then bring back Hendriks.
  6. I think that he should get a chance in every blowout. As a fan, I hate watching a blowout, but when Butera pitches, it gives me enjoyment that takes my mind off being blown out. I would also like to see Mauer pitch, if we are down by 10 or more runs in the 8th or 9th inning. Let him earn his money by providing a little extra something interesting for us fans during a season that is likely to continue to be depressing. Also, if we down by more than 25 games in September, I would like to see Butera and Mauer try to duplicate Cezar Tovar's feat of playing all 9 positions in one game. If this is going to be a rebuilding year, why not have some fun? Two Tovars in a single game would be awesome. According to Wikipedia, only 4 players have ever played all 9 positions in a single game. But NEVER have TWO players done this in the same game. In September, the roster will be 30 or more players, so why not go for it? Baseball is foremost a game of fun. Losing is never fun, but a team (and fans) can have fun despite losing.
  7. Seth makes a good point -- it's hard to imagine Mauer being good at fielding bunts down the third base line. And that could be hard on his knees. What about right field? He has OK speed and a strong arm -- maybe he could get a lot of assists. And right field would allow him to stay loose between ABs.
  8. This is an excellent report, and the links to the box scores are much appreciated.
  9. I agree -- why not? If he turns out not to be valuable, wouldn't the cost have been low? On the other hand, it appears that the Rays claimed him from the Cubs only about 6 weeks ago, so I wonder whether the Twins already passed on him at that point, and now he may be even less appealing now that Tampa has dropped him. However, Rochester needs pitching -- could the Twins put him there?
  10. I am thankful for the off day tomorrow.
  11. If there is even a 1% chance of Marquis getting back to being decent, it seems to me that Rochester makes sense, assuming that he is willing to go. I see two reasons for this. First, if he did make a comeback, he would have some value. And we have no way of knowing how much he has been affected by his child's injury. Maybe there is still some gas in his tank, and he will get better as his child recovers. Second, this would reduce the need to bring up someone from AA if the Twins call up a starter from Rochester.
  12. Damn -- this was a horrible day for the entire system.
  13. I think that Gardenhire uses the off days to eat more pizza.
  14. Why hasn't Gardenhire pulled Mauer from the game so he can get more rest?
  15. That would have been good.
  16. Hooray, Komatsu gets an AB, but strikes out.
  17. This might be a good time to let Doumit replace Mauer so Joe can get more rest, and put Mastro and Komatsu in to get some experience. And for the cameras to scan the stands for hot chicks.
  18. Why not send him to Rochester in the hope that he can get better?
  19. I was being optimistic that Walters and Diamond will leave no room for Blackburn to come back.
  20. Blackburn appears to be gone. If only we could replace Marquis.
  21. Would it be possible to send Marquis to Rochester? No one would claim him?
  22. Finally Gardenhire pulls him. Now we need to get out of this inning and score 7 runs.
  23. This is starting to look like batting practice for the Brewers. I would like to see Marquis go on the DL for a while to try to get his head together.
  24. I just wish he would swing a bit more early in the count.
  25. We probably need to score a lot of runs to have a chance today.
