  1. Buxton's last 36 PA's of the season: .273/.314/.515 (.829) He didn't even get consistent playing time down the stretch the last couple weeks either. Unless he has a horrible ST, he needs to be the starting CF'er opening day.
  2. If we are eschewing defense for power, we should just go with the following lineup: CF Buxton 2B Dozier 3B Sano LF Arcia 1B Park DH Vargas SS Plouffe RF Walker C Murphy
  3. Why do you think Plouffe would be a better OF than Sano? Sano is faster than Plouffe and has a stronger arm.
  4. Buxton started turning it around at the plate in his limited opportunities toward the end of the season. The problem was that we were in a tight playoff rate, so he didn't get everday playing time. Over his last 36 PA's he hit .275 with an .829 OPS. You say he needs to get acclimated to AAA pitching, but he was tearing up the league when he was down there last year. If he has a good Spring Training no reason to send him to AAA.
  5. That is only one season though. I went back to 2014 and the only team in the top 10 in runs scored who had an OBP outside the top 10 was baltimore. Anything can happen over the course of one season, but if you take a 10 year sample size, the correlation between runs scored and OBP is pretty strong. wOBA is an even better, albeit more comlicated metric.
  6. Plouffe is slow. I'd bet 1k without hesitation that Sano would beat Plouffe in a footrace, even an 260 bills.
  7. The Twins were 28th in all of MLB in OBP this past season. Only Philly and Miami were worse. Their is a pretty strong correlation between getting on base and scoring runs. Here is a look at how are projected lineup looks in that regard: Dozier- Career .314 OBP. His .345 mark in 2014 is looking like an abberation Mauer- .338 OBP last year and it has been decling the past four years. Sano- Should lead the team by a wide margin in OBP. Park- Who knows what to expect, but doesn't project as high OBP guy Arcia- .305 career OBP and low walk rate. Plouffe- .308 career OBP Rosario- .289 OBP last season + very low walk rate. Escobar- .303 career OBP Suzuki/Ryan- .312 career OBP for Suzuki. Ryan had a career .327 OBP in the minors, and has a .311 OBP in his short career so far. So far none of the moves Ryan has made has really addressed this problem. The hope is that Buxton and Kepler can help in this area at some point next season, but that is little more than hope at this point. I'm a bit worried going into next season, that we don't have enough guys that will consistently get on base.
  8. The first three hitters in your proposed lineup: Danny Santana: Career .309 OBP/2014 was a fluke Eduardo Escobar: Career .303 OBP/Love me some Eduardo, just not hitting 2nd Eddie Rosario: Career .289 OBP/One of the lowest walk rates in MLB Having your 1-3 hitters consist of players that struggle to get on base consistently, is not a recipe for success.
  9. Sano is faster than Plouffe and has a stronger arm. Between the two, if you have to have one play the OF, it's Sano all the way.
  10. Park went 0-5 with 3k's against the Dominican Republic today. South Korea won 10-1.
  11. I don't even want Bedrosian at all. He sucks.
  12. If we trade Plouffe, it had better not be for Bedrosian as a centerpiece. That would be god awful.
  13. Park is playing for South Korea in the WBSC Premier 12 tournament that is going on right now. SK played Japan on Sunday and Park went 2-4 with a double and a strike out. The most encoraging news is that his double was off of Shohei Otani, who may be the next big thing out of Japan. Otani's fastball can reach 101 mph. Small sample size, but encouraging nonetheless.
  14. There should be no rush to trade Hicks. He is 25 and and under team control for the next 4 years. He is an above average defensive centerfielder and has improved at the plate every year, so far. Maybe you trade Hicks down the road, once Buxton establishes himself, but trading him now would be incredibly stupid.
  15. It's been confirmed by guys like Jeff Passan and Ken Rosenthal. We now have 30 days to negotiate a deal.
  16. This guy is reporting that we won the bid. https://mobile.twitter.com/DanielKimW/status/663729736481267712
  17. Unless the Reds have a blockbuster trade lined up with Votto it looks like it's down to us and the Brewers.
  18. Phillies out as well according to Heyman. https://mobile.twitter.com/JonHeymanCBS/status/663726890851639297
  19. Astros are out according to Jon Heyman of CBS.
  20. I highly doubt the Twins front office would have bid the $12+ million for the right to negotiate but as of now the teams that haven't been counted out of the Park sweepstakes are: Phillies Brewers Reds Pirates Cubs White Sox Twins Astros Doogie reported earlier this week the Twins did in fact scout Park. Would you be in favor of siging Park? Tim Dierkes of MLB Trade Rumors speculated Park's contract would be in the 5 years and $40 million range. Doesn't seem like a move the Twins would make to me.
  21. Career .368 OBP and .798 OPS against righties. He cant catch anymore, but if we end up trading Plouffe you could bring in Jaso to DH and hit leadoff or second against right handed starters. I'm not quite sure about the market for Jaso, but if you can get him for about $4-$5 million AAV for 2 years I wouldn't be opposed to it. This team needs a guy who can get on base at the top of the lineup.
  22. With the year he had, I think scouts will be reevaluating there projections with Berrios. The kid just keeps getting better and better. He has maintained a strikeout per inning through pretty much every level all while decreasing his walk rate every year. He was one of the best pitchers in AAA at the same time he was one of the youngest. Couple that with his work ethic and how close he is to the majors, It would take alot for me to trade Berrios.
  23. So Molly bringing in a lefty against Zobrist, who mashes left handed pitching, was a good move? This is regardless of the fact that Perkins has been bad lately.
  24. I like Molly, but he cost us the game tonight.
  25. Nunez has 2 homers in 5 career AB's against Santiago. Probably should find a way to get his bat in the lineup tonight even if it's a small sample size. Maybe a lineup of: RF Hicks 2B Dozier 1B Mauer DH Sano 3B Plouffe LF Escobar SS Nunez C Suzuki CF Buxton
