  1. I really think Plouffe would have some value to the Royals. He's a known commodity. He isn't all that far off his career norms, which are good- beyond what you can expect from Cheslor Cuthbert, and he's still cheap. I don't know what they'd offer in return, but they have to have some bullpen arms that are blocked, don't they?
  2. Well that sure was an embarrassing strikeout.
  3. I really hope you're wrong, but I'd bet you're not
  4. I wish to rescind all the negative stuff I ever said about Nunez. Dude has be ome a real ball player
  5. I've only gotten to talk water quality with Stew. Good guy. Good scorer. Dry sense of humor. A little too cat-friendly if you ask me, but you didn't. Why would you? Thanks for writing this. I enjoyed looking in on this part of the game.
  6. They're giving him big league chances each time he starts to show he deserves a look... ...and he poos the bed. Not yet a starter. Not yet a reliever. I don't blame the Twins one bit for how he's used. If he was successful at this level, you could say they're jerking him around, but they're just trying to give him shots and he's blown them all.
  7. Twins relief pitchers AL ranking: strikeout rate: 4th (9.67/9) WHIP: 15th (worst-1.44) Wild Pitches: First (worst-11) Innings: 2nd (85.2) ERA: 8th (3.26) All in all, I see a bp that is getting middle-of-the-pack results, despite heavy use. They are inducing a lot of strikeouts, but it is coming alongside more walks and hits than you want to see. This unit is actually outperforming my expectations, but their failings are so stark and obvious when paired with the stagnant offense. That's the part I didn't see coming.
  8. I like this approach. It definitely allows for some subjectivity, but I think it tells a valuable part of the story. In this view, a sort-of-clunker appearance and a mega-clunker appearance are equals. Long-term, you'd have to establish rules for a successful/unsuccessful appearance and you'd, of course, have to be ready for all sorts of arguing about why the rules are wrong. subjective or not, i think this is a cool exercise... ...and I think we'd all be less concerned about this bullpen if the offense was doing its job. 3.4 runs per game has put the pitching staff in an impossible spot.
  9. As soon as I saw the news, I thought, "I'm holding Madre Dos accountable for how he fares!" I sure hope we're celebrating together throughout a successful debut and a great rookie year, mi amiga
  10. Seven was a very good choice. Mauer should stick with it
  11. We are really conditioned for bleak expectations huh?
  12. I expect they don't want to throw Meyer straight into a 2-baserunner situation. Start a clean inning
  13. Really hooked Milone quick. Can't bode well for his job security.
  14. His offense has been the least "offensive" thing he's done all year!
  15. I just read the entire thread to see what hilarious things people had to say about the awkwardness of watching Kurt Suzuki get ready to hit to "the most beautiful girl in the world." I mean seriously. Prince's catalog has at least 700 songs that are better suited to a baseball game. DJ should've just pretended he misunderstood Zuke and played "rock and roll is alive- it lives in minneapolis" to save the embarrassment. That said, how'd you all stay silent on the matter?
  16. First off, pretty clear from Nick's article that Duffey was performing well until getting hurt. Is your beef that he hasn't proved he can pitch into a game after getting hit with a liner? Second, "I understand the argument regarding Milone doing worse the second and third time facing a lineup... I would not trust Milone in a contender's pen." I think you may have understood his point backwards. He used the statistics to make the point that Milone is not a good candidate to move to a bullpen. Seemed like you thought you were disagreeing when in actuality, you both conclude he's not a bp asset. Regarding Duffey to the bullpen- you may have a great idea there. I could get behind that.
  17. Oh I get it. Molitor's employing the old rely-on-a-7-run-rally-in-the-9th-inning strategy. Not my favorite approach. Serves me right for walking away from the game for a couple innings to give attention to my wife's concerns.
  18. I kinda like his bat instead of aaron hick's bat. It's louder.
  19. The fickle finger of fate came and broke my pretty balloon. Riverbrian got that some stuck in my head a few games back and now we're at this verse
  20. I don't agree with this. Puckett didn't have the body type to play center field. Mauer didn't have the body type to play catcher, David McCarty had the body type of a perfect baseball player. Athletes are individuals. Some have said Miguel displayed very good footwork and a smooth, soft glove once he'd been playing 3rd for awhile in the minors. Can't say I agree, because I haven't seen him play there much, but I don't think it is a proven NO just because he's a real big dude.
  21. I'd say Hicks had himself in knots, but, fair enough. Thanks for a thoughtful response.
  22. Re: "Gardenhire hates young players" This is so opposite of everything I observed while watching him as manager. One of the most common themes I remember from his tenure was his anxiousness to get young talent up and his seeming frustration that his GM wouldn't graduate the talent fast enough. I recall him being vocally impatient to put Matt Garza, Alexi Casilla, Danny Valencia, Luke Hughes, Ben Revere, Danny Santana and Trevor Plouffe to work at the major league level. That's off the top of my head. His success came on the backs of young talent. I always felt he was a bit impatient and overeager to send guys out there to sink or swim and that Smith and Ryan were the overprotective parent and it created a good counterbalance. Do people get this idea because he was willing to criticize certain young players in the press? i.e. Cuddyer, Plouffe, Dozier To me, he "picked on" guys who he knew could lead. This seemed like a way he raised the bar for players who he thought could rise to the challenge and become better. It worked with those three. All became more complete players on his guard. Never heard him "pick on" the goofier guys much (like Ford, Gomez) as it wasn't likely to have a positive impact.
