  1. If he leads the AFL in HRs and RBI and SO's - Would that change your perception at all about his potential? Not whether he is on opening day roster. .414 OBP BTW K's and all
  2. I'm adding one more to the mix: http://m.twins.mlb.com/news/article/156629878/fall-stars-gear-up-to-represent-their-team
  3. I'm more impressed with the .389 OBP despite same K rate. Some AFL ABs - found on youtube
  4. ABW II and Burdi made the AFL Fall Star Game. http://m.mlb.com/news/article/156166350/afl-fall-stars-game-rosters-announced?topicid=153494546 Once you get to link - If you scroll down to other articles in link - They have a nice piece on Taylor Rogers who is arguably having best showing of all Twins prospects. He should have made the fall star game.
  5. Kepler only had 75 ABs last AFL season and we all got a little excited. That's why I said small sample size. Whether he continues his positives or not this AFL season - It tells me he "can" compete (half way point) with some more coaching and ABs.
  6. http://m.mlb.com/video/topic/26271672/v526041083/twins-prospects-on-display-in-arizona-fall-league/?query=afl
  7. Baby steps, but: Walker - .459 OBP (5th in AFL); 1.137 OPS (6th in AFL); and a .355 BA thus far. 3rd in HRs and 4th in RBI and 5th in Total Bases and still 1st in K's. Go Figure?
  8. Will Ortiz ever get a chance as a 4th outfielder?
  9. Not trying to make this an ABW thread, but ABW is another prospect in Chattanooga who looks at alot of first pitch strikes and generally falls behind in counts. I think it is less about him being a free hitter as it is about him taking pitches and falling behind in the count. He without a doubt saw less fastballs than anyone in the Southern League last year. That was mainly because they didn't need to throw fastballs after they got ahead in the count. My point is like Mookie stated: Should players swing MORE and look to do damage early in counts or work starting pitchers to get their pitch counts up high early. IMO guys with more swing and miss probabilities should be more aggressive at the plate and guys who are Rosario type great contact hitters can afford to be more patient. Buxton like ABW need to be more aggressive early like Betts, because when they do make contact - they can do great damage. Like Dozier said - Hit the fastball early and you don't have to worry about the off speed as much later. Either way - There are BB guys who can work counts and there are guys who need to jump on anything they can get [iN the ZONE] early. Hell what's the difference between working with 2 strikes because you watched a first pitch strike and working with a strike because you tried to do damage on that first swing. Either way you have to have a 1 strike and 2 strike approach in the end. IMO
  10. That's possible and maybe even probable - I just know that when Walker does lead his team in HRs and RBI his teams have won the regular season championship damn near every year: Great Lakes Summer League - Championship - 2010 (1st ever) Cape Cod Summer League - Championship - 2011 (1st in last 23 years) Elizabethton - Championship - 2012 (2 out HR in bottom of the 9th to tie) Cedar Rapids - Best Record in Baseball - 2013 (best record in baseball 2nd half after Bux left) Fort Myers - Championship - 2014 (1st championship ever) Chattanooga - Championship - 2015 (1st championship since 1988) Just saying......................You're talking predictors and probabilities and I'm talking history. I'll use my own predictors based on historical probabilities. I'm curious what a sure shot looks like if he is still considered a long shot. Let's just call him Seabiscuit
  11. I'll leave it at this. Name the last Twins player or Minor leaguer to lead his team and league in HRs and RBI for 3 straight years? Now name the last Twins player to do so and have 3 championships in 4 years? Oh yeah - The one year he didn't win the championship, his team had the best record in all of minor league baseball. The game is about wins and loses and nobody helps his team WIN more than Walker has in the last 3 years. Most of those seasons went without the Top prospects in the game playing during the second half. Hard to argue based on his run production numbers. You can't score - You can't win! For the record though - ABW will not be a Top 20 prospect in the Southern League (Baseball America rankings) despite his numbers. There are more people who think like Jeremy than me. FACT I wonder if Walker continues to produce like he is currently (Dozier like season) at the MLB level, will he have as much pessimism?
  12. Thank you. Just 2 opinions. Walker was considered a finalist for the Southern League MVP and lost to a deserving teammate. But SL MVP worthy to 6th or 7th on his list - WOW. We can agree to disagree JN Congrats to Kepler and his call up by the way. Had to happen. Congrats to the Lookouts and to the Champions of 3 in 4 years.
  13. He has been one of the first guys called up every year to a higher minor league level and has been lights out at each step. Consider this - He pitched a No Hitter in his first minor league start in Cedar Rapids. Can you say GAMER? Seems to be a personable kid too. Right Kid Right Call Up
  14. On a completely different topic about Top Hitting Qualifications: Not trying to be funny either, but do BB numbers make you a better hitter and if so does that make an Adam Dunn considered a good hitter despite leading the league in BB and SO? Curious what the Seth and Jeremy's and others think on subject? I only ask because BB have a significant influence on OPS over the length of a season. Is there a significant portion of OPS that matters more than the other part in your minds?
  15. Kepler's swing is so so sweet. He hits the ball as hard as anyone he' seen, Doug mentioned in an article earlier in the season. Those line drive doubles will definitely turn into HRs like last night, as he gets bigger. That's why he's the MVP. Kid can hit. The best play of the game was his run saving diving catch earlier in the game. It kept the momentum from shifting. Awesome catch.
  16. To me - That's OK, because when he doesn't - It turns out pretty good and usually into an XBH (not just a HR). Dozier [.237 BA / .313 OBP / .456 SLG] Walker [.239 BA / .309 OBP / .496 SLG] Similar production numbers as well and Walker bats 6th & 7th, not 2nd. Love one, Luke warm on the other? Can't talk position make up because the Twins only have 2 power positions on the field (RF & 3rd). They are a team made up of opportunistic players and no true threats (BA / SLG). CHATTANOOGA LINE UP until JUNE Buxton (1st) Polanco (2nd) Sano (3rd) D. Hicks (4th) / Kepler (4th) when Hicks was injured Harrison (5th) Gonzalez (6th) Walker (7th) League leader from the 7th hole Turner (8th) Michael (9th) Opposing announcers and even the Birmingham hitting coach joked about why throw him fastballs when there are no threats in front of him or behind him in the line up. Stop putting the presence of the Top three in the line up as a major factor in Walker playing well. Is it fair to say that Walker probably never drove in Buxton or Polanco from the 7th hole? Just saying..........think out it ? Can't be done Good Article Title: "The Intangibles of a Player/Prospect"

  18. Not worked up. Never. Just disagree with your thoughts. That's what the forum is for, right? Discussion and points of view. I respect the right that everyone has the right to think what they feel. Same fun arguments you and Seth probably have all year. All in fun. Walker helps guide Lookouts into SL Finals http://www.milb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20150914&content_id=149547528&fext=.jsp&vkey=news_l111&sid=l111
  19. I wasn't arguing Walker's numbers over Keplers. Mad Max is the best hitter in the system this year (hands down). I was saying that Walker had a better hitting season than the 5 other people Jeremy selected over Walker. As I tried to compare Walker to Kepler - I guess I was trying to say that Keplers numbers were rare in their own right and allowed "some" argument where as the other 5 don't even compare IMO. Nothing to do with becoming a better prospect or future value. Just the 2015 season value alone. Walker had special 2015 season. With the positives and negatives reaching for former Twin comparisons to think about. Hard to find any. And his positives have him 1 game from his 3rd championship in 4 years.
  20. When you lead the league / organization in Total Bases (250) that should offset the OBP part just a little. And when you put yourself in scoring position more than anyone in the organization (65 XBH) that should offset the OBP part just a little. And when you score 75 times (purpose of the game), which is one less time than Mad Max (deserving winner by the way), OBP doesn't seem as important to me. Max had an OBP and OPS much much higher than Walker, but in terms of how that helped his team win more games, you will have to explain that to me. That is the purpose of the game - Score more runs than your opponent and nobody does it better in the organization (3 years running) than Walker (scoring and rbi collectively). I'm assuming that is why you appreciate OBP and OPS in your hitters? For the purpose of enhancing the ability to scoring runs. Like the song goes: "Nobody does it better"
  21. As always - Great seasonal coverage. Congrats to all the Twins affiliates who are in the upcoming playoffs. Congrats to Adam Brett Walker on becoming the Lookouts All Time HR Record Holder in a Season with 31. His 31 HRs best Larry Drake who had 30 in 1948. The Lookouts were established in 1931. Walkers 106 RBI are also the most from the Southern League franchise in the last 37 years. Big year for Walker (31 2B / 31 HRs / 250 Total Bases) and hopefully a bigger year in the AFL. GO LOOKOUTS
  22. 6 Grand slams in 2 years is a lot for any player. Down 3 in the bottom of the 9th with 2 outs of the deciding championship game of his 1st minor league season (2012) and he hits a 3 run HR to tie game and they eventually win it all. Pinch Hitting is for guys who have a tendency to drive in runs or guys who have a tendency to change the game with one swing. To Walker's credit there is only 1 other person in the minor leagues better than him in those 2 categories. 29 HRs / 30 Doubles / 101 RBI - THAT'S WHAT I WANT FROM MY PINCH HITTER LATE IN GAMES!
  23. MLB Insider: Twins batters have wilted as pinch hitters Their pinch hitters have hit .119 this year, as Paul Molitor looks for answers. How much more could Walker hurt? His upside as a late September Call Up could be huge if he continues to do what he does (29 HRs in 2015 / 25 HRs in 2014 / 27 HRs in 2013 and Post season MVP in 2012). Considering what everyone else has done this season as a pinch hitter - What is there to lose? He has Game Changing capabilities. http://www.startribune.com/mlb-insider-twins-batters-have-wilted-as-pinch-hitters/322596641/
