  1. If that's the case, that's great news!
  2. I really, really hope they can get Balazovic and Benninghoff signed.
  3. Because he signed so quickly, before Kirilloff, and for an unpublished amount, I would imagine he signed for under slot.
  4. For those interested, Alex Lopez's Miami Hurricanes are playing Boston College on the super regionals on ESPN U right now. Lopez just followed up a Zack Collins HR with a hard hit single to right-center and then later scored.
  5. I wonder if they can sign Benninghoff. Also, the two college pitcher selected one is 6'7, the other is 6'8.
  6. Doesn't look like he walked much for someone with power at a JC. Oh well, at this point it's find players with a tool and see if it will carry them.
  7. Whaaa? http://vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net/satireknight/images/d/dc/Mind_blown.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20141106205443

  9. Decent enough stats in the Pac-12 and Cape Cod. Plus, what's not to like about a plus curveball? And you know the Twins love their 6'7 tall pitchers.
  10. Picks are not protected after round 2 or 3 I believe.
  11. If he's signable, I like it. Really only have a problem with Jax so far this draft. We shall see how it shakes out, but I like what the Twins are doing so far- not how i would have done it, but I think they are checking some empty boxes.
  12. The other pitchers had more than one pitch when they came to the org. I have yet to see the Twins develop a starter (or reliever for that matter) and turn them into a major league pitcher with only one above average pitch. I think stats verify what traditional scouting sees and traditional scouting adds context to what stats cannot see. The lack of strikeouts and the lack of quality competition tells me that he will struggle to get pro hitters out above A ball. Not to mention what to do about his military commitment. I just think there was better value available for the Twins at #93 than what Jax brings. Heck, there are plenty of over performing college seniors available every year that can be had for peanuts in the second day.
  13. Right, but those publications tend to weight actual performance in college very lightly. If the stats don't back up what the eye test says, then it is hard not to doubt them. In this particular case- that is moreso in this instance because his lack of probably the most important determining statistical factor for a college pitcher- K rate. Plus, his level of competition was severely lacking. He did not play in a power conference, nor did he play in the Cape with the top competition. Furthermore, at this point he is only a one pitch pitcher- decent fastball, but not much else. Do you trust the Twins' development staff to teach him out pitches? Because based on their track record, i sure don't.
  14. Yeah I see Neshek in him too. Little less herky-jerky delivery. Put up some redonkulous K/9 rates on the Cape and as a senior. Now these are the kind of signability picks I like. Find a college seniors with some great stats that traditional scouts have knocked for whatever reason and see if they can keep performing as a pro.
  15. Unfortunately, an aging arm won't wait for millitary service to be fulfilled. The Twins' PR machine will go into high gear with a puff piece about drafting a millitary player.
  16. It's not in the top few tiers of college conferences. He had 6.6k/9 in the Northwoods league, and a little better 7.0 K/9 as junior. He didn't see top quality college hitters and still didn't get swings and misses. He will struggle to get outs in professional ball with the lack of an out pitch. The Twins could have gotten better value at #3 still.
  17. Signability pick? His strikeout numbers are awful coming from a poor conference, and were downright bad in the Northwoods league.
  18. Is there an outage with the draft system or something? Nothing has happened for a while.
  19. Much Baddoo about nothing! Sorry, I've wanted to do that for a while.
  20. I have my doubts about Kirilloff, though. His swing just screams contact issues to me- and his lack of bat speed is a red flag.
