  1. Right. Most of the top switch hitters Beltran, VMart, etc are so supremely talented that I think if they swung the bat from just one side they'd really have no problem with platoon splits anyway. I think some of the less talented switch hitters might have had more success if they had just focused and spent their energy on one swing.
  2. As I said in the other thread., DFAing Park (who I really wanted to see what he could do this year if healthy) for Belisle (I thought a bad signing to begin with)- FIRE FALVINE INTO THE SUN! The honeymoon period sure didn't last long with those two for me.
  3. I strongly dislike switch hitting personally. It's hard enough to maintain one swing let alone two. Most switch hitters still are better from one side than the other, so the platoon advantage is minimal at most. If I were running an org I'd outlaw switch hitting, it's a waste.
  4. PLEASE NO.
  5. WTF??!!!!! Ok. FIRE FALVINE INTO THE SUN!!!!
  6. Same age is you. But I can tell you I certainly feel more like 30 than 25. I'm married and have a kid that's turning 1 in two weeks.
  7. Belisle isn't even a deadline trade candidate if all goes well. His upside is of an August trade for a PTBNL. I just don't have a ton of confidence that he can successfully transition to the AL for the first at 36/37 while having posted sub 7K/9's the past three seasons. Tonkin, Boshers, Haley can all give similar production at or near the minimum. Why boot one of these younger, cheaper options off the roster? This move smacks of Terry Ryan era veteran fetishism. It's sub-optimal roster construction. And even at the fringes it still grinds my gears.
  8. If they were going to reach this low in the barrel I'd have preferred a minor league deal. Rebuilding teams do not give guaranteed roster spots to Methuselah.
  9. This is a classic Terry Ryan move. Yuck. No thanks. A NL only middle reliever approaching 40 that hasn't had a K/9 above 7 since 2013.
  10. In fairness, a lot of us doing that were actually critical of the previous regime (I was in that camp starting in 2012) are criticising the current regime for their lack of activity. They haven't done enough to wash away the foul stench of the previous regime.
  11. Plus a catcher that could you know, not cost him strikes behind the plate.
  12. No, no. Hu's pitching for the Rays. Thanks Terry!
  13. Thank God. May could, you know, actually be a good starter for us if given the chance.
  14. Santiago really should have been non-tendered.
  15. I'd never use that description on Gordon. LOL
  16. Yeah, but most of us don't live in CA. It's a five hour difference from Minnesota and 6 hour diff from here to London.
  17. That's a good question. I'm not sure. Right now in the Central US timezone it's noon. It's 7am in Auckland, 5am in Sydney, 3am in Tokyo, 6pm in London, and 7pm in Rome.
  18. I've been to Australia and New Zealand a couple of times, it's even more pronounced crossing the Pacific. Coming home (going east) is always the hardest and it takes days to adjust back. But traveling there is not nearly as hard. It only takes a full day to adjust. Sleep on the plane, which is always difficult, but by landing in the morning and loading up on caffeine you can force your body to stay awake until 9-10pm and then sleep till 7am and bingo! You're adjusted to local time.
  19. Well Forsythe has one more year of control plus an option year. Plus his batted profile is much more low risk than Dozier. Someone posted this early in the thread: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/dodgers-trade-for-brian-dozier-basically/
  20. Well Steamer has him projected to pitch to a xFIP of 3.83 next year. Most pitching prospects don't have 32/33% K rates in the minors with a 5.55 K/BB ratio in the PACIFIC COAST LEAGUE. If health wasn't a factor and I had to bet on a pitching prospect to make a successful transition to the majors I'd pick De Leon.
  21. I don't know if AZ's problem was being taken advantage of. They just weren't making intelligent decisions.
  22. There's also a chance De Leon stays healthy and develops a quality breaking pitch. Adding that third pitch basically means that becomes a top of the rotation guy. Basically, the only risk to De Leon is his shoulder. If he stays healthy he's got a really high floor even without that third pitch. There's also zero chance of Dozier helping us solve our pitching problem if we don't trade him.
  23. Mike dropping logic bombs.
