I was at the game on 4/26/86. My recollection of the circumstances is a bit different. First, I don't think there was a tear. If that had been the case the roof would have completely deflated. I do remember water cascading down into the upper deck but I think it was from another source. From what I recollect I believe it was a combination of two things. First, the dome operators had instituted the practice of lowering the internal pressure in the late innings to reduce the wind effect that occurred when leaving the stadium through open doors. I think they were concerned about injuries that could result. Second, there was a downburst resulting in a brief, strong, straight-line wind that, coupled with the lower-than-usual pressure made huge waves in the roof as it blew through. I'm sure I wasn't the only one who envisioned a funnel cloud outside. It was quite unsettling seeing the roof do what it did, but everything and everyone quickly calmed down in short order.
