    Not on the surface. Which is why I am only interested in bullpen arms. Unless the 3 pitchers in the article have massive turn arounds in the 2nd half, they’re not starting a playoff game over Ryan, Gray, Ober, or Archer.

    The tidbit from Aaron Gleeman’s mailbag article today is Balazovic is still hindered by his knee injury. I understand trying to get him reps, but it does seem strange to keep playing him if he’s still injured.

    Didn’t get to witness all the game, but I did see 4 Twins runs which was fun! Keep on racking up the series wins fellas! Note to YouTube, Ty France was not the most entertaining choice to be the mic’d up player today.

    I like this reverse jinx series you’re doing Nick. Last week you suggested sending Buxton to IL and he won AL player of the week. I fully expect the same results here.

    My takeaway this week is the offense is good enough (most of the time) to knock really strong starters out of the game early. It was really fun to see them do so well against Gausman, Cortes, Taillon, and Cole.

    This is the way. Load up on bullpen arms. Much cheaper to acquire, and lockdown bullpens are how teams win in the playoffs anyway.

    Feel awful for Lewis. His mental toughness is put to the test once again. Good luck to him and his recovery.

    I’d say odds are very low he’s a trade chip in July but anything is possible. No one ever thought the Cardinals would give up a serviceable reliever in John Gant for JA Happ last year.

    An eerily identical situation to last year. Struggling pitcher, I’m sure the FO and manager are keenly aware of this, and no healthy pitcher available to replace him.

    I wouldn’t have let Bundy try a single pitch in the 5th inning. It all started snowballing downhill from there. Polanco had a bad evening on the field. Him and Correa miscommunicating on the routine infield pop up followed up by Hicks HR the next at bat was the turning point in the game. Duran being off tonight certainly didn’t help. However, we all need the reminder he’s still just a rookie who’s been a reliever for all of 10 weeks. Tonight we are sobered by the fact that the Yankees are on pace to win 110+ games. That shouldn’t belittle the fact that the Twins are on pace to win 90+ games themselves.

    The Twins offense has now given 3 top starting pitchers in the AL their worst outing of the season. Let that sink in for a minute. Shout out to Archer. He stepped up big time tonight and has overall been pretty solid for us this season. Stanton’s antics in RF tonight was a treat to watch. One misplayed fly ball after another. Thank god we’re done playing the elite Tigers and Royals so we can continue beating up these AL East scrubs ?

    The last team to have this hot of a start was the 2001 Mariners who won 116 games. It bears repeating that the Yankees are on a historically great run right now.

    I understand Duffey having a history here, but this is very alarming. Reminiscent of Alex Colomé last year.

    Ah that’s right. Hard to keep up with all of the movement. Definitely a great problem to have with many of our regulars returning to action! In that case, perhaps going with 1 less reliever for a deeper bench? Or, hate to say it, it may be getting to that time to make a call on Nick Gordon. Kirilloff was on the opening day roster and a part of the short and long term goals. He should be back in the plans now that he’s making a mockery of AAA pitching.

    Now that Celestino is back to be the fill in at CF, I would send down Contreras for Kirilloff. Kirilloff playing mainly at 1B, occasionally filling in the corner OF. Arraez moves back to primary DH, filling in at 1B and 2B when Buxton needs to DH.

    Rumors of the Twins’ demise is greatly exaggerated. We’re 1/3rd of the way through the season and on pace to win 93 games. We’ve only seen a fraction of the pitching pipeline. Bullpen arms are relatively inexpensive to acquire at the deadline. I’m not worried.

    During spring training reports indicated he is the best fielding SS in the system. Easy to see why now that he’s up with the big league club. If he becomes a .680-.700 OPS guy he’ll be an 8-10 year MLB player.

    As Rick Pitino once said, “All the negativity in this town sucks.” Is fWAR to date really a good measurement for past and most importantly (your article topic) future performance of a bullpen? Come on Nick, you’re better than that. Feeding red meat to the negativity wolves.

    Very true. The problem is becoming even better now because there’s no real place you can say he’d be better than the incumbent. Maybe LF? Maybe. He could still take over Gordon’s spot but then all we’re debating over is Lewis playing 1-2 times a week as a fill in somewhere.
