  1. Very disappointed Meyer and May not in Rochester--I thought when we traded Revere and Span for them, they would be part of the 2014 pitching staff--but they are not in Rochester. I think they need to be facing AAA hitters this year.
  2. Great article Seth. I also hope the keep the kid around all year and give him a good shot. Best to go with young talent and see how much it will help when the Twins are a contender--hopefully 2014.
  3. I like Gardy. I think he has gotten the most out of this team that he could. Most guys who have left (not including Lohse) have tailed off some very much so (Johan). It is apparent that the Twins are looking for 2014 and 2015 to contend. Gardy should be given a chance to manage that group. I know this is a minority opinion... If Gardy goes, replacement should have managerial experience--that eliminates Bruno and Molitar. (Maybe Sandberg is the right choice).
  4. I am shocked to see so many comments about mediocre pitcher...he is a back of the pen guy...can be easily replaced...good to open a spot for Ramirez...
  5. I am also hoping for 75--feel 72-90 is about right. I think keys are comeback from Pelfrey, limited regression from Diamond and trading Morneau for either a good MI or SP and moving Parmalee to 1B and recalling Benson. I think 2 of 3 may happen--if none do--could be looking at 66 wins.
  6. I believe the qualifying offer at the end of the year (to get a draft pick) will be around $14 mill. If Morneau is still here (I hope he is traded at the deadline for SS/P and Parmalee at 1B and Arcia in RF) that is a lot of money to give him considering concussion history and age in 2014 (32). He would take it.
  7. Just to be different, I will take the over...I know Miggy will regress but Tigers still best in AL Central and could easily win 95 games...Verlander could win 23 of those....
  8. I vote stay away--I cant picture KC over 500--so the tendency is take the under--but pitching is improved a bit...dont count on Guthrie to repeat good results.
  9. Thanks for the report--I am so jealous--note to self: get down to spring training one of these years...
  10. I agree--they will miss AJ and Youk...I dont expect Peavy to regress much keeping them around 78 wins and in the pack in the AL Central.
  11. I vote for worse--basically cause he has never had two injury free seasons in a row. I expect he will be on the DL a lot this year.
  12. Given the fact that Pelfrey is also coming back from an injury and Diamond was injured in the off-season--this whole discussion may be irrelevant. If Gibson pitches well in spring training and wins a spot--he should be on the 25 man roster. Only if there are 5 starters that are healthy and pitching well--should he be sent to Rochester. Since it is likely the Twins will not be in a pennant race, shutting him down in August doesnt matter--let him pitch his 140-150 innings and then shut him down.
  13. Well, I wont go as far as shooting myself...but I agree Clete Thomas has NO PLACE on a MLB roster--neither does Butera. If Hicks doesnt start in CF and goes to minors--keep Benson as 4th OF until Hicks/Arcia is ready. As for Butera, we can do better, I keep hoping for a spring trade to get CF--maybe trade Morneau now and move Parmalee to 1B. I do think Twins will win between 75 and 79 games and finish above last in AL Central.
  14. In general I agree with the comment--but not always the case--I know soccer (what the rest of the world calls football) is not a big sport here--but arguably the best manager in any team in any sport--Sir Alex Ferguson of Man. United--has been there 26 years and looks to win another title this season...
  15. I am a Gardy fan and always have been. I think he has done a great job with a team that has not always been the most talented. Having said that--I agree with others--we are starting to build a new team around Hicks, Sano, Buxton, etc. I think after a dozen years it is time for a change--bring in a manager (Bruno??) to build this team. More important and Seth didnt address this--get rid of Anderson--we need a better pitching coach (Cuellar?).
  16. Seth very interesting article and set of offensive numbers--overly bullish to say the least. I disagree with most people and say they are not reasonable at all because you forgot to factor in time on the DL. You have Mauer playing 143 games, Doumit 127, Plouffe 154, Morneau 142 and Willingham 151. It is possible that one or two of these guys will avoid the DL--but all 5--given their history no way. (Yes, Doumit could spend time on the DL and get 127 appearances but not likely.) I gather you have Hicks coming up sometime around memorial day and displacing Mastro--if he is on team all year--he plays 120plus--Gardy and Ryan wont keep him on MLB roster to keep him on bench,.
  17. Assuming Diamond or Pelfrey on the DL--I go with Deduno over Gibson for 5th starter--saving service time and innings. I hope the Twins only carry two catchers and keep an extra IF so no Butera. No way Harden makes this roster--he has done nothing the last 2 years.
  18. Seth--once again great article. For me Meyer is the key to this offseason--he could be a Twins ace for the long-term that we havent had since the 90s. Nats fans here didnt like losing him (even for Span) and now feel worse with the Gio issues in the latest drug scandal.
  19. I am not optimistic for even 500...because our defense is too weak...we will give up a lot of hits that could have been caught with better defense...Hicks is the key lottery pick...because he must cover a ton of ground in OF with Josh and Parmalee in the corners...I fear a lot of doubles against us...we are also counting on Dozier (more optimistic about him) and whomever in the IF.
  20. I hope kid gets shot in midwest league, given Twins history with pitchers picks, my biggest hope is he avoids the dreaded arm injury path that often seems to include Tommy John surgery...
  21. Good article--thanks Seth. I hope Brian makes it--I think he can be productive middle IF (not all-star but solid) in MLB. I hope that Gardy decides early in camp where his future is (SS, 2B) and leaves him there and lets him learn lots more.
  22. Assuming he is healthy--Morneau wont settle for27/3--he will be looking for 40/3 and will get it from somebody...if he is not healthy it doesnt matter.
  23. Lets calm down--we added a solid pitcher (Worley) a mediocre pitcher (Correia), and two prospects (May and Meyer--Nats fans I talk to here think we got a steal). We also added two pitchers (who if healthy) could get 12-15 wins (but doubtful given health and poor Twins defense) in Harden and Pelfrey. In TR's defense why add a third pitcher in that category (Marcum) who had major health issues last year. In truth, Neither Harden, Pelfrey or Marcum will be here in 2015 anyway.
  24. I agree--stick a fork in Harden--he is done. Maybe he occupies 5th spot till Pelfrey/Gibson is totally recovered--but maybe not. My rotation--Diamond, Worley, Corriea, Hendricks (last shot) then Pelfrey/Gibson, skip 5th starter for a while (when needed use Deduno) insert Pelfrey/Gibson May. If Gibson is going to be on an innings limit--pitch him weekly--shuffle the rest and when needed give Deduno a start.
  25. I hate this record--everybody needs a mental health day as they say. I am convinced the Orioles would have won more titles during the Cal years if Ripken had taken a day or two off each season. One of those 2 years Cuddy led the Twins in games played--Gardy forced him to take a day--and the other days off were due to his father-in-law's funeral here in DC.
