  1. The seats that got removed in RF were replaced by drink rails, which may or may not have chairs at them (basically, like the seats up on the roof deck). Where ever you sit, BRING A JACKET. Possibly a blanket too, especially if she's one of those "I'm always cold" kind of girls. April games can be pretty damn chilly, and jackets and blankets at the stadium are ridiculously expensive.
  2. We get first rights among american league teams. When the cubs put him on waivers, I believe all the national league teams get a shot before we do. Also, the teams can DFA him, and then setup a trade before he actually gets sent through the waiver wire (which I believe is what happened with Carp and Campana)
  3. I know it sounds hokey and a bit cliche, but maybe it's not a bad thing if everyone expects the twins to suck. We've got young kids trying to prove they belong in the big leagues, injured guys trying to prove they can recover, and a handful of vets trying to pump up their value for their next big contract. Maybe everyone else thinking they're gonna suck will help pull these guys together to try and defy the odds. The one encouraging thing I see about the Twins right now is they have a lot of question marks. I know it sounds odd, but I'd rather have a lot of guys where we don't know what they're going to give us, than a team full of guys who we KNOW will suck.

  5. Correct me if I'm wrong, but if they claimed him wouldn't he have to go straight to the 25 man roster? Who would you kick off so they could keep a guy who essentially has the same skills as Parmelee, but wasn't good enough to stay on the Mariner's roster?
  6. Saw a note on mlbtraderumors.com that apparently the Twins have interest in Mike Carp. Why? He's a left-handed bat who can play 1b and OF. I'm pretty sure we've got that covered, between Morneau, Parmelee, Doumit, and Mauer. I could MAYBE see a role for him on the bench if he was a right handed batter, or he could also play 3B. But not quite sure what purpose he could serve as is, unless they want Parmelee to spend more time at Rochester.
  7. I'm not very confident in Benson, and I really think Mastroianni is the ideal 4th OF for us, but I guess at this point I'd rather have those two battle it out to be the starter and let Hicks get at least a few months in at AAA. If Mastroianni does get the start, what would you guys think about Clete Thomas as our 4th guy if Benson sucks it up in ST? Obviously his bat was awful last year, but that was considerably below his career averages and he can cover CF.
  8. Yeah....I'm not surprised. Honestly, I'd expect the volunteers are probably better than a lot of our employees. They don't exactly offer much incentive for people to actually do a great job, nor are our training methods particularly good
  9. I'm an employee of DNC, and we've just gone through our "re-hire" training for the season
  10. Oh, and they are now banning ALL tobacco, even chew.
  11. There is still some things in flux, but there are a few things that have been decided for sure. Concession stand 141 (I don't remember what it was) is being converted to a bar, and will carry Surly, I believe Fulton, and other craft beers. Most of the beers offered there will not be available anywhere else in the stadium (that means the surly cart is going away, and no more fulton in Townball Tavern) There will be a few more walleye food items, and all walleye in the stadium will now be shipped fresh to Target Field, instead of that iffy frozen stuff they've used before. Fried Pickles will be available in many more locations, including townball tavern. Milkshakes will be available in Hrbeks and Townball Tavern. Midway through the season they will assess their popularity, and at that time they may consider adding alcoholic milkshakes to the menu. There will now be "skinny" mojitios available in Hrbeks and Townball Tavern, as well as several other new speciality drinks. Finally, Townball Tavern will now be officially sponsored by Summit. It's unclear if the name will change, but they will have several types of Summit on tap at all times, as well as several food items made with summit. Unfortunately, this also means that Fulton (and possibly a few other varieties of beer) are being booted out of that bar. They are still hammering out the final details, so look for an official announcement sometime in the beginning of March Haven't heard anything about getting rid of the dance-off or any other programming stuff yet, but I'll let you know if I do.
  12. I dunno, the vikings signed Moss TWICE
  13. Actually, what I meant was not that they wouldn't make a fuss, but that they wouldn't be Divas, or getting drunk and trying to beat up Jews, or trying to run down traffic cops. Stuff like that. Or those players who run to the media to complain about the team instead of trying to deal directly with the manager and fix the issues, rather than whining like a spoiled little brat. Guys that understand that this is team sport, and are in it for the team, not just themselves. Remember Dorn in Major League? The guy who was far more concerned about his next big contract than how the team was doing right then? That's basically the guy the Twins DON'T want.
  14. They really should have had Butera playing winter ball working on his pitching. He could start a whole new trend of carrying a 13th pitcher who is also your 4th bench guy. If he pitched one decent inning for every at-bat he gets playing catcher, he might actually be seen as a viable roster option
  15. I'm pretty sure nothing related to the Marlins is reasonable to believe
  16. Without the Dance-Off though, I wouldn't have heard any cheers or applause last year
  17. I think the big contracts of Mauer, Morneau, and Pucket show that they are willing to spend big bucks on the right guys, but that it's more than just performance on the field. I think they do take into account attitudes and PR situations (they'll leave the bad press to the vikings and wolves), and the player's commitment to the Twins. They want to reward guys who want to be Twins. They aren't going to offer big money and years to a guy they think might start complaining loudly about the team in a few years, or start clamoring for a trade if the team is having a bad year. It would have been REALLY easy for Mauer or Morneau to start causing a fuss about the bad teams the last two years and instruct their agent to push to get them moved to a contender. But they didn't. I really think that's part of the reason the Twins gave them the big contracts. They want guys that will be loyal to the team through thick and thin.
  18. Because he likes playing here? Because he's comfortable with this team, these coaches, this organization? Because he has a house in Plymouth, his wife is a native and has family here? Because some players aren't willing to uproot their entire lives to chase a few more bucks or a world series ring? I know it seems odd these days, but not every professional athlete has a "mercenary" mentality.
  19. With it only being the second season of the new CBA rules, it's hard to guess what people will be doing at the trade deadline, but it certainly seemed like teams were a bit more reluctant to give up much for the half season rental players. It certainly isn't going to help anything that Morneau has only played 38 games from September 1st on over the last four years. I think if he is doing well it's going to piss off a lot of season ticket holders (who are already a bit pissed at the team) if they get rid of him for some kids who may or may not pan out. It's not like we're going to be able to get the next Mike Trout or Stephen Strausberg for him. I think you are right though, that if he stays healthy and plays at top form he'll be worth 13+ a year, and I can see the Twins offering him a two year deal, maybe with an option year. I guess I look at it this way. In two years we could have Buxton, Arcia, and Hicks in the OF, Sano, Rosario, at 2b and 3b, and a slew of hot young pitchers looking to prove themselves. If given the choice between a healthy 34 year old Morneau or a 26 year old Parmelee at 1b, I think I'd definitely take Morneau. That's the kind of thing that could make a difference between a team going 3 and out in divisional play vs. going to game 7 of the world series.
  20. Not nesc. I don't think he'll be a huge power hitter, but he's got good speed and is a decent bunter. When they first got him last year, a coach from Chicago mentioned he hits a lot of line drives. If Bruno can help him develop some more patience at the plate and get those line drives to fall into the gaps, we could see him spinning his wheels around the bases quite a bit, or at the very least giving our power hitters somebody to knock in. And hey, when you look at what Dozier, Casilla, Nishi, Florimon, and Hughes did at the plate last year, he won't really have to do all that much to look like a HUGE improvement over what we've had.
  21. I think Escobar will surprise people with how capable he actually is, and Dozier will surprise people with his ability to mimic Danny Valencia's career
  22. I've said it before, and I'll say it again: The value of signing Mauer long-term is far greater to the Twins, and baseball in general, than just his on-field performance. He will likely go down as one of the best offensive catchers in the history of baseball, and he did it cleanly, with not even a whiff of a rumor of any PED use or anything like that. He is a clean-cut, quiet individual who does NOT make headlines for stupid off-field stuff. He was a number one draft pick, signed by the team he grew up rooting for, and will likely never wear another team's uniform. He's made millions and is internationally known, but his mom still answers his fan mail and he married a girl he knew from high school. You couldn't invent a character that better represents the brand the Twins have tried to cultivate over the years, and he is the epitome of Baseball as "The American Past-time" and he's exactly the kind of role model that Major League Baseball wants to have to encourage youths (and to a great extent, their parents) to pursue baseball instead of other major sports.
  23. With his injury history, I don't think Morneau is going to command the 80-100 million salary some are predicting. He's missed at least 25 games each year for the last four years, and if he gets one more hard knock to the head he's probably out of the game for good. Even if he has his best year ever, I'd be surprised if anyone tried to lock him up for longer than 3 or 4 years. In that range, it's much more likely that the Twins will be able to make a decent offer, and there doesn't seem to be any indication that Morneau actually WANTS to leave the Twins. When you look at this situation, I think you also have to consider what Doumit's role is going to be going forward. Is he going to be our main DH guy? Is he going to primarily be a #2 catcher and bench bat? Will he end up getting traded? How about Mauer? If the team intends for him to eventually transition to 1b, does it make sense handing to Parmelee for a short period of time, or would be better off trading Parmelee to a team desperate for left handed bats and first basemen? Assuming Parmelee struggles defensively in RF but does well offensively, I could see a situation over the next few years where he and Morneau essentially platoon DH and 1b, with Parmelee eventually spending more and more time on the field. Of course, that's assuming Mauer keeps catching (or moves to 3b), and Doumit isn't our full-time DH. Anyway you look at it though, our myriad of options at 1b in the near future is probably the single best problem the twins have to face
  24. Probably. Nothing wrong with that though. We need some no-name warm bodies scattered throughout the minors to allow us the flexibility to let our true assets develop at a good pace and find their best spots, rather than having to rush them and shoehorn them into whatever position we are desperate for
