  1. I guess that depends on if you think Mauer will still be the primary catcher in three years. If he will eventually be moved, than HE might be the 1b of the future. Of course, Sano might get sent across the diamond too eventually, and if you had to choose, wouldn't you take Sano over Parmelee for 1b in the future? I think at this point, the Twins brain trust want to win games and put butts in seats NOW. Following that Philosophy, I don't think they would trade any fan favorites who are actually producing to their capability. If the current trends continue, I see Carroll, Doumit and Parmelee being the most likely to get moved simply because they have the capacity to be everyday players, but the Twins don't really have a place for them to be everyday guys. They won't pull much on their own, but I could see them being part of a package deal, maybe with one of our seeming abundance of long reliever/#6 starter types.
  2. At this point though, Carroll isn't a starter, and at least over the last few weeks Parmelee and Doumit haven't been regular starters either. It's hard to know for sure who will be starting in two months. Oh wait, did you mean starting pitchers? Well, i guess there again it's hard to know who our starting pitchers will be in two months
  3. Need for days off? He's played in 36 of 37 games, and caught 25 of them. That seems pretty darn good. Really, over the last few weeks Doumit has practically been a once a week player and late inning pinch hitter. I honestly think that he won't be happy with that if it continued all season. They'd be wise keeping him if he is ok with the role he has, but my money would be on him as the first Twin to ask for a trade. What about Parmelee as trade bait? I know he wouldn't get a huge haul, but if they are seriously considering re-signing Morneau, Parmelee is already getting squeezed for time in the outfield and we got more outfielders knocking on the door, and would likely be more valuable to a team with fewer lefthanded bats and options at 1b.
  4. Do any of the PBP guys elsewhere in the league call every play? I always assumed they switched off just to give their voices a break
  5. Didn't Angel Hernandez once throw out a guy who was singing "Take me out to the ballgame"?
  6. And most casual fans didn't listen to 1500 other than for the game itself and the recap immediately afterwards.
  7. I guess I've only seen the few games lately where he has hit. Forgive me, I've been working too many nights.
  8. I'm not really putting that much stock into the April stats. Just speculating what could happen. As far as "Butera getting healthy", I'm basically working under the assumption that even if they had any intention on moving Doumit, or if he were to ask for a trade or something, nothing would actually happen until Butera was available to be the backup catcher. Basically, my thinking is that there will be a market for trading Doumit if/when they decide they want to trade him. If they don't play him as the everyday DH, can we get something for him that'd be more valuable to the team long term than him sitting on the bench 5-6 days a week. This is assuming that Arcia/Parmelee/Willingham are all hitting better than him (which they currently are), to the point where they would rather keep those three in the lineup every day. A big IF I understand. Ramirez on the other hand, is in a much more tenuous place. He isn't getting many at bats as it is, and Arcia is KILLING the ball. He certainly doesn't look like he needs much more seasoning, and he is adding excitement and entertainment to the game. It doesn't make sense to send him down. You could send Arcia down, but that assumes that Mastroianni is going to be able to perform better than him, and it still leaves you without a real CF backup. Ramirez and Mastro are both out of options, and could get swiped. I think Parm might have an option left, but I doubt they'd send him down. It's a tricky situation to be sure.
  9. With Arcia proving that he can hit MLB pitching and Plouffe at risk of shifting from starting 3b to right handed bench bat, what's going to happen to these guys when Mastroianni and Butera heal up? I'm sure Ramirez is just thrilled to be on the club, but they don't have a really good backup option for CF, and he could easily be the one cut loose when Mastroianni comes back. Doumit on the other hand, isn't going to be happy being a benchwarmer for long. When he has played, he hasn't been hitting well. If they are going to have a backup catcher that hardly ever plays, Butera isn't a bad choice, and they could probably flip Doumit for something. Thoughts? What would you do?
  10. Actually, techincally speaking Coomer IS a DJ there. He is employed as a regular member of the afternoon show, not as a baseball commentator. It actually is fairly deliberate that the twins talk shows aren't on KTWN. By keeping the talk shows on 1500 AM, they keep their relationship with 1500, and maintain access to the "sports talk" demographic, while broadcasting the games on KTWN with it's music format allows them to reach the demographic of people who think of sports talk simply as "what my dad listens to". That also means that they can sell ad space around the games to BOTH demographics.
  11. I think it's mostly about reminding Plouffe other guys can play 3b and his job isn't guaranteed. I don't think anyone expects a gold glove or a silver slugger from him, but they don't need a guy who gets too comfy with his starting job and starts to get lazy. We don't need a Valencia 2.0
  12. Safeco has a considerably larger footprint than Target Field. While they could have done a roof of sorts, they simply didn't have the space to put in one as nice as safeco. Honestly, this April is pretty unusual, and we may never see another one like it, with this much snow an cold air this late. If it was 20 degrees warmer (typical April temps) these would have all been rain storms, and target field can handle rain REALLY well. Of corse some day we may need to deal with snow in October, but I think if we are actually still playing in October, no one will mind the weather too much
  13. Pedro is actually putting up better offensive numbers than expected. I think he's in the top five for ops and avg amongst AL SS. Pretty good for your #9 guy. Personally, I still think Escobar is a better player, but as others have pointed out he's way more useful in the bench than Pedro. Hell, you can start Escobar every day at a different position.
  14. With the way the Angels are playing right now, the Twins wanna get this game in today an way they can. Lineups are up btw. 1. shuck LF 2. Trout CF 3. Pujols DH 4. Hamilton RF 5. Trumbo 1B 6. Kendrick 2B 7. Ianetta C 8. Harris SS 9. Jiminez 3B P. Hanson 1. Dozier 2B 2. Mauer DH 3. Hammer LF 4. Mourneau 1B 5. Doumit C 6. Plouffe 3B 7. Arcia RF 8. Hicks CF 9. Florimon SS P. Worley
  15. I know it's been a long time since last season, but he did hit .294 and stole 40 based last year. Not bad for a kid who still hasn't played a full year of MLB level baseball. That reminds me, I gotta go get my Phillies/Twins tickets
  16. It really sounds like the reports that this is his spring training injury "flaring up" are not entirely accurate. My understanding is that he's actually been available most of this time, the concern was more that they weren't sure he could play a full nine innings. We may not have even noticed the issue yesterday, except that it happened to coincide with Hammer getting sick. Guys sprain their ankles. It happens. They were forced to scratch him, and then immediately after the game they put him on the DL and brought back Arcia. What more do you want?
  17. No reason he couldn't play everyday. He just might not start everyday. And I'm not nesc. saying the fifth guy has to be Arcia, just that it would be really nice to be able to trust an 11-man staff enough to have a fifth guy
  18. The reason it says "based on a true story" is not to indicate that it's not all made up, but actually to indicate that it's not 100% factually true. Basically, it means they used artistic license to change some things to make it a better movie. Because they stated that it was BASED on a true story, instead of BEING a true story, no one can sue them for false advertising. I just saw the movie yesterday and I thought it was fantastic. I didn't actually know that much about the story beforehand, and it was really eye-opening. Yes, it could have gone into more depth and covered a lot more stuff, but the movie is already 2:20 long. I took my wife to see it, an she isn't really a baseball fan but she loved it. I plan to take my daughters to see it as well. The bottom line is, that this movie is targeted towards the general audience, not hardcore baseball guys. People who may not really know much of anything about the story. It may not include all of the context, and it certainly tones down the actual threats and language hurled at Jackie, and the struggles he had. Again though, you can only fit so much into one movie, and as near as I can tell most of the changes are by omission rather than actually changing the events that happened. Like reading the book before watching the film, if you come in knowing a lot about the events and the characters, you may be sorely disappointed. But if you are new to the story, this is a fantastic way to discover it.
  19. It's be nice wouldn't it? You could make Hammer your primary DH, cycle Ramirez, Parmelee, Arcia, and Mastroianni at the corners and use Doumit to give Mauer/Hammer/Mourneau days off. Whether Gardy/Ryan would go for it, I don't know, but I don't think we're that far off from being capable of running an 11 man staff. Corriea is already averaging over 7 ip per game, crappy weather and all. Once he gets settled in, Diamond will probably return to last year's average of 6-7 innings every game. We've got a number of guys capable of stepping in and pitching 2-3 innings of relief if needed. If we can get one or two out of Vanimal, Pelfry, Hendricks, Hernandez, Deduno, and DeVries to average 6-7 innings a start, I really think we could roll with 6 arms in the pen. Obviously, it's not going to happen anytime soon, but once the weather warms up and DeVries and Deduno are healthy, we might get there. Thoughts? Am I totally nuts, or does this sound attainable? If they did cut to an 11 man staff (and everyone was available) who would you go with?
  20. Wow. What a terrible human being
  21. I was just coming on to post something like that. Right now, we're on a 5 game skid, with our last two games being awful thumpings. Our hitters aren't hitting. The weather has been awful. They need SOMETHING to get people excited, to get some good buzz going around this team. Bringing up Benson or a third catcher ain't gonna do it. Besides that, Ryan has said more than once this season that "service clock" issues aren't going to keep him from bringing up the best players available, and I have to take him at his word. What use is an extra year of control going to be if Target Field is empty in 2015? It's worth remembering that If Gardy and co go, Terry Ryan might not be far behind. It's all well and good to talk about building for 2015 and beyond, but they still need to earn their paychecks this year, an that means trying to field the best team possible with the assets they have
  22. I don't think we should read too much into this. Basically, they are saying Ramirez is going to out a few days, and we don't want to play with a short bench. Their options on the 40 are Butera (who is hurt), Herrmann, Pinto, Santana, Benson, and Arcia. Haven't looked at the numbers, but I'm guessing Arcia is hitting best out of that group. He almost certainly will get sent down when Ramirez comes back. Of Course, we thought the same thing of Pedro, and that didn't turn out as expected. I think there is definitely a willingness to give new faces a real shot and let them earn a spot, that really wasn't there the last few years. If I was Hicks though, I wouldn't be too worried.
  23. I think the idea is that it would be for rent, but I'm not sure if they are actually doing that right now. Essentially, they eliminated a section of seats and lowered the number of tickets they need to sell to declare it a "sellout"
  24. I've been trying hard to get into the Twins promotions dept if that helps. But I don't think their HR lady likes my resume
  25. Gates typically open 90 minutes before first pitch during the week, and two hours before first pitch on the weekend. It would be a valid claim that the fee is going to cover staffing, because they will have to bring ushers and security guards in early. I don't see the early concessions thing happening, as it sounds like extra logistics work that DNC would see as not worth the extra money. Also, they hate giving discounts.
