  1. I was going to say the Padres :-)
  2. Yeah, that would be hard to figure out.
  3. Mmmm Sandwiches :-)
  4. Ah, that makes sense. Seems we've seen it before, but that makes sense. Thanks for that very respectful response.
  5. we've heard teams say they were close to a deal for someone and it fell through though, haven't we? I'm not sure we need to be specific on who we almost gave up but if you want to say you were that close to making a trade, and don't want to say who, why even say it?
  6. Who was Wolfson talking to in order to write what he did? He said the TWINS believed they had completed two trades that ultimately fell through this offseason, as the players they wanted were traded to other teams and then when Wolfson speculated on who the players were, he was told not them. Was he not talking to someone with the Twins? Is that not what we're supposed to get from that? Is Wolfson, from ESPN1500 (only printed on the MLB rumor site) making stuff up?
  7. This kind of stuff drives me crazy. They want to say they were oh so close to making a couple trades, but then won't say who we almost traded for, but they have no problem confirming who it wasn't. Why do you think that is? Is it because if they say the were oh so close to making a trade for a certain player, the other team may respond to such a claim?
  8. I wasn't trying to nitpick, I brainfarted on who you might have meant. I'm hoping that doesn't happen, BTW. I want Santana at shortstop
  9. Espinosa? I see you edited, meant Escobar.
  10. I was going to post the same thing.
  11. How does that pertain to us?
  12. Very true. And Johnson wasn't exactly hitting home runs, draft-wise, until we started being so bad. In any event, Ryan gets way too much credit for this farm system, being build back up as I said in my previous post. Lots of hands in the pot including Smith, who gets way too much blame.
  13. Seems Ryan gets way more credit for building this farm system than he actually should, as if out farm system was in total chaos before he returned. Some of the really good prospects we have were obtained while he was gone and many others were just due from losing so much (like Buxton and Stewart). On top of that, he doesn't run the draft.
  14. I think the only way this team reaches .500 is if everything goes right. We are still a couple years away before we can reasonably figure we'll be competitive, and that's only if a good chunk of our prospects work out like we hope. We just don't have the talent yet.
  15. oh yeah, I get that. I miss Span a lot. I was just saying I don't really miss Revere, though we must be fair and say he's provided okay value over the last three years . We're still waiting for the value we traded for both.
  16. yeah, I don't like or use B-Ref WAR. IMO, Fangraphs is better. I also don't think it was a bad trade for us.
  17. I'm not a big fan of Revere, nor do I bemoan the loss of him, but to be fair, he's averaged 2 WAR over the last 3 years.
  18. “Hall says the Diamondbacks’ policy is to try to hire a person of color for any job, with all other pertinent details being equal, but he also acknowledges the league as a whole has fallen into a rut.' I would never say to Dave (meaning Dave Stewart), ‘You have to hire a minority,’” Hall (Diamondbacks president and CEO) said. “As I’ve said in conversations with him and others, ‘Our preference would be to hire a minority.’ All things equal, let’s go with a minority.” http://www.hardballtimes.com/mlb-must-maintain-its-minority-hiring-advances/
  19. In today's Fangraph's chat, I asked Kiley MacDaniel (Fangraph's senior prospect person), how many Twins are in his top 50 (meaning top 50 MLB prospects). He said, 'Probably 3'.
  20. Mauer, Danny S, and Buxton :-)
  21. BTW, and sorry not to say this earlier, but I overall loved the article. I liked the tidbit about Dozier coming over and chatting with you, and just the overall firsthand info you gave on the awards banquet in general. Thanks for that.
  22. 'Listening to that speech, it’s clear that Hunter will be a very good leader for this organization. I know many, especially those who solely look at the numbers (and sometimes I’m guilty of that too), but the other things do matter.' How many people solely look at numbers? I don't think that people have to just look at numbers to be down on him. They could just watch how far his defense has fallen the last two years with their own eyes and then say, 'he's about to be 40, so he isn't likely to be any better. ' One might see that with the really bad OF defense we've had lately, getting him was a bad move. In fact, IMO, one SHOULD see that I'm also not sure if being loud and getting in people's faces means he's a good leader. When things get bad, it will be interesting to see how he is, because he has a rep for picking some of the most talented players on his team, ones getting more press than him, and getting in their faces when things go bad. Also, let's make sure the rest of the team doesn't follow his lead on how to do press conferences. I think it was a very bad signing from a competitive standpoint, a move to put behinds in the seats for a team still. at best, a couple years away from being in contention.
  23. I'm not sure about the Punto comparison. I think he just hit out of his mind one year, I don't think that was his actual level of talent. He fell back down to what he was. Mauer is the opposite in that his talent level has always been high and he just had a bad year. Other than that, I completely agree. I also don't care about HR. He has almost always been VERY good at creating runs even with hitting relatively few HR, and it doesn't matter to me how they are created as long as they are created.
  24. But Fantasy Leagues don't care about that kind of defense you're talking about and jokin was talking about the kind of 1Bs fantasy sports value.
  25. I'm with you on this. I see him coming back to hitting like he normally does. I think the concussion affected him more than people realize.
