  1. Indeed. 172 PAs, an OPS in the .730s, with a .406 BABIP and playing in a band box :-)
  2. How often do managers dog out the players they are about to trade or just traded?
  3. We have done nothing to address the starting catcher role. Backup catcher depth was well covered and still is, but as far as I'm concerned, we have done nothing to fix that particular problem.
  4. is it your contention that JR Hicks IS the the type of guy you rely on for anything when Suzuki is your starting catcher.
  5. I'm having a hard time believing he's made two significant signings. Park is a low risk move that may never work out. We have no idea, he's never played a professional game at any level for any MLB organization. Then we signed a backup catcher. Are these significant, or have some been conditioned to believe they are due to what we are used to? It's possible neither significant move even affects our starting team come next season.due to the kind of action we are used to seeing. Signing two players who have proven nothing at the major league level and who may not even be starting come opening day doesn't strike me as significant. And, you know, it's possible one move just ends up hurting our OF defense.
  6. In what universe was Hicks blocking 'the best prospect in the game'? That was not happening.
  7. We don't have one catcher that should be starting in the majors and Suzuki wouldn't garner anything worth having.
  8. No nerve hit, just tired of people complaining about people discussing what's happening with the team during a major event in MLB. Talk about the same old tired theme. In any event, it seems like a good time to discuss the things you sited with fellow posters. In regards to the moves made before the headlines, IMO, a low-risk signing of a guy to DH who has never played at any professional level is nothing to be too excited about. We have no idea how he'll perform in the majors and now Sano is pushed to the OF where he hasn't played, likely hurting the OF defense. Signing a backup catcher, while hurting our OF defense, doesn't help much while we still have no quality starting catcher. Do we have any new starters, besides Sano in RF IF our new DH proves he can hack it in the majors? Even then, Sano was starting, he'd just be starting at a new spot. So, so far, one new possible starter: Park. If he can hack it. As far as not getting worked up over a week's inactivity, these meetings are big for getting stuff done. On top of that, we have a huge historical view of the kind of moves our GM makes overall. How many times has he traded for, or signed, a proven MLB high quality player who was a star at the time he did it? Do we count Shannon Stewart? I doubt the groaning is really so much about just this one Winter Meeting's worth of Twins inactivity. I believe it's more the feeling many likely get that, under Ryan, we will NEVER make a big slash and that no one even expected us to make any kind of significant move. I imagine many were dying to be proven wrong.
  9. Nick wrote an article, like he's done many times here as one of the staff writers. The thing going on the last few days in Major League Baseball was the winter meetings. This is a Twins site so he wrote about how the Twins didn't complete any transactions during said meetings. Makes complete sense he would write such an article and complete sense people should discuss lack of transactions by the Twins. You saw the headline, you could have skipped it altogether. No one made you click on the story, or read the comments, or make a comment yourself.
  10. Twins did not convert Nathan from a starter to a reliever. He was already a reliever before we ever got him.
  11. We need more than a LH RP. If the organization believes that's all we need, we are in trouble. And we should always be looking to improve any chance we can get.
  12. If you read Cameron's Fangraphs chat from Wednesday, you'll see how ridiculous he thought it was and what he's heard from FOs around MLB about it. Hint, they are ticked off. He also re-iterated that the DBacks FO is the worst in baseball and has been for at least a couple years now. He also gave some examples of the type of return Arizona could/should have gotten for what they gave up to get Miller.
  13. So that's 3 examples in how many years? 60 or so? Here's an article from late 2013 or about Rule 5 picks from '99-'12. http://www.baseballamerica.com/majors/how-to-make-the-rule-5-draft-matter-again/ 'To say that players like Santana are Rule 5 outliers, however, would be an understatement.' 'teams made 232 selections in the major league Rule 5 draft from 1999-2012, which places the odds of landing an all-star-level talent at four out of 232—or 1.7 percent. Even if we count all 13 players above as smashing successes, the odds of finding another one are long: 5.6 percent, or about one in 20 Rule 5 picks.'
  14. One is youngish with some upside, the other is, at the very best, an okay utility guy. One season doesn't make Nunez a keeper, just like 2014 didn't make Danny Santana a stud.
  15. I think this team is far from being a WS constructed team. Regardless of the experience level, The talent level isn't there.
  16. Then they aren't paying attention to what players cost nowadays or just ignoring it. I didn't read one article about the signing that said it was anything other than the kind of signing that is low risk.
  17. We have a long history of results, or lack thereof, to form an opinion. It's not like we should just toss aside prior actions at the end of every season and forget he hasn't been GM for many, many years. And I will remember you said that about being critical. I've yet to see you actually do that, though I have seen you threat to do so. I'm hoping we do get a true quality LH reliever so you don't have to, though.
  18. Are there people who really believe he's a fairly expensive but worthwhile risk? In today game, that price is peanuts. And I don't care that they didn't break the bank to get him, I'm just trying to point out that it's not like we paid so much that we outbid every other team or even a bunch of teams so why try and make it seem that way? As Sano goes, he's a very large player who has never played in the OF at any level. This team hasn't earned the benefit of the doubt in regards to their evaluation of defensive capabilities lately.
  19. No one said they outbid every other team for him? Yes, yes someone did. In this thread a few posts ago. 'Or, one might phrase it this way: he got a catcher who is better, created an opening in the OF for a better player, and outbid every other team for a middle of the order bat'
  20. But we do know while other teams have completed transactions, after attempting to do so, we haven't while also attempting to do so. Is that fairly accurate? Sports is a pretty results oriented business right? Points for trying don't really accumulate. Try not. Do, or do not. There is no try.
  21. It's premature to label Park a middle of the order MLB bat considering he's never played one professional game for any MLB organization. It's also not necessarily true they outbid every other team for him. We don't know how many bid for him and it's not like we broke the bank to get him. It's not like all these teams just threw up their hands and said we can't match the Twins huge offer. Did we outbid every other team for Nishioka too? And getting a backup catcher is fine, except now we have two of those and no quality starting catcher. We don't know that we have a better player than Hicks available either, at least not one that is ready in the system. Unless you're 100% on board with having Sano out there (which only improves the offense while hurting the defense).
  22. Bright side is, we don't have Dave Stewart as a GM. So it could be worse.
  23. For me is was around August 2007, a few months before when Ryan himself said he was no longer the right guy to run a franchise in this new age and stepped down.
  24. It was a team that was extremely lucky to win the amount of games it won. I was thrilled to see it, but the roster still has major flaws/uncertainties. And so far, what has been addressed is backup catcher (and we still need a quality starting catcher) but while doing so we hurt the OF defense. We signed an inexpensive DH who has never played in the majors, but destroyed inferior talent, making our biggest power hitting guy have to learn a new position. So, I mean, seriously.
  25. Why bother responding? No reason fans shouldn't be able to question/criticize the leadership of this team without having to respond to such comments.
