  1. yes, a wRC+ in the 70s and a negative WAR is good stuff. On to other topics
  2. no, did not play well. not at all. but you re certainly entitled to think he has. he has played well in some cherry picked time frames, and that's good, but he's not a good major league ballplayer. he should be AAA filler.
  3. http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=bat&lg=all&qual=450&type=8&season=2016&month=0&season1=2015&ind=0&team=0&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0&page=10_30
  4. When you take into account his time on the DL, he has started a pretty high percentage of games
  5. no WE don't. A select few think Santana should be on a major league 25 man roster.
  6. when it's completely non-repeatable (as the last two years have predictably shown), it's easy to discard. Like Hughes 2014, for example.
  7. right up there with the 5th starter argument., gets used for like 6 starters a year :-)
  8. except he keeps getting thrown out. he's completely negated what little value stolen bases have.
  9. Santana plays all over because Molitor tells him to. Any player can play all over if their manager wants them too. Doesn't mean they should or that they are competent at doing so.
  10. what is two years going to tell you that the last 55 PAs won't? :-)
  11. Um, no would be my answer to that.
  12. In regards to whether or not we should have traded E Santana, in today's chat, Dave Cameron talks quite a bit about how teams pay more at deadline than offseason. One example: Jack: I don’t understand why you think the White Sox may lost value in holding onto Sale until the winter. He’s signed for 3 more years (team friendly contract) and the FA market is awful this off-season. Dave Cameron: Any buyer at the deadline would have gotten him for 3.5 years, plus one whole extra postseason run. So now Sale gives any buyer less than he would have. And they’ll have more options this winter. Dave Cameron: Plus, teams don’t pay the same prices in the winter as they do in the summer, since they have less confidence that their acquisitions will impact the postseason race.
  13. I think I said 'B' Yup, double checked and said solid B.
  14. I haven't read anything like that but praising what they did at the deadline, so I guess I'll take your word for it. It's important to note they were in the playoffs last year, are at .500 now, always have money to spend, and now have 7 of the top 100 prospects. That team is usually in the thick of it.
  15. Who is doing that?
  16. or maybe BEST case scenario. the part about him DHing and Polanco manning 3rd.
  17. Looking at Fangraphs, I filtered the stats for rookies only. Out of 39 MLB rookie, Kepler ranks 6th in wRC+ 92nd in AL). There are 19 MLB rookies with a wRC+ of 100 or higher. Buxton ranks 34 for MLB rookies (dead last in AL) in wRC+ with a 51. Park is ahead of him. Centeno is ahead of him. There are a lot of young players getting it done at the MLB level.
  18. Thing is, the bar was set so low, that having as much action as we did was fun to watch. Bars being set low happens a lot with this team. Think about the offseason before 2010. Got Hardy, Thome and Hudson and people were crazy happy. It wasn't REALLY all that big of a deal, but for us it was like Xmas time. More recently, people have gotten super-excited over Rosario's rookie year and Escobar. I mean, seriously, doesn't take much to get our fan-base humming a sweet tune. Like you said, it moved us towards the right direction even if not everything was done that should have been done. And it's way more than I think our recently departed GM would have done.
  19. I don't think an OPS under .550 in the minors screams 'I'm worthy of promotion' but we're still hoping he can sustain a mid .300s BABIP like he did the last two season with NY :-)
  20. I think, right now, some fans here are making the same mistake that some made last year when they saw some hope (like we have very recently) and over-estimated the talent on this team because of it. FO and front office did the same thing last year and hopefully won't this year.
  21. I know what he said, but again, when looking at what he said in context, I think he was just talking offense. He wouldn't be the first nor the last person to not parse his words exactly right when trying to make a point. And yeah, it depends on which WAR you like, I always prefer Fangraphs. I made it clear I was talking about Fangraphs. The list of our first rounders from 2006-2011 is one tale of bust after another. It's amazing how often we missed. And 2012-2013 isn't looking much better except in the 'hope and pray' division.... And I worry more about how they are developed in the minors. In the majors they should be mostly finished products and our guys look nowhere near that with few exceptions.
  22. I guess Santana is an OF, but I think we all know he really isn't one. He shouldn't even be playing while Buxton has been a top prospect for years. And on Fangraphs, Rosario is ever so slightly ahead of Buxton in WAR. Having said that, after reading the post you quoted, I think the guy was mostly referring to offense. Buxton has a wRC+ of 51. There are 107 OF with 20 or more PAs, and our super-hyped, #2 overall draft pick, top 2 prospect for three years in a row, sits at 103rd in wRC+. What's sad is that two other former 1st round picks of the Twins sit even lower. The futility of out first rounders is quite concerning.
  23. How long do you think Plouffe has been a Twin? Plouffe didn't play a lick of 3B in the majors until 2012. So right in the time we were doing all our losing. He played there for lousy teams. And Plouffe wasn't groomed to be a 3B in the minors either.
  24. Victory is mine, victory is mine. Great day in the morning, people, victory is mine. I drink from the keg of glory, Donna. Bring me the finest muffins and bagels in all the land.
