  1. I want every Twin to succeed, even ones I don't think are very good. GO TWINS!!!!
  2. Drew Butera in 2011 and 2012 was a pretty good defensive catcher for us if memory serves. Maybe he's available in the offseason.
  3. Everyone took my joke too seriously. Seth, I've said something like this to you like 10 times since I've been here, I believe each time with a smiley face. I'm guessing it hasn't been memorable enough for you to notice. I'll stop with what I thought was just a running joke.
  4. I'm still waiting for you to publicly say on this site you don't agree with a move the Twins make :-)
  5. As of the conclusion of last night's game, Gibson with his ERA over 5.00 was 2nd on the team in starter ERA and 3rd in FIP with a FIP over 4.50.
  6. my bias being i prefer not having players bad at everything getting any significant playing time. Yes, bias.
  7. with Sano you used putouts 75 i believe and chances 78 i believe.. Thats fielding %.nothing advanced about that. Ranking people by that, also not advanced
  8. so right there it says one or three years. One year works. But okay, again. This is like discussing Sano in Rf defense. Im moving on.
  9. -8 for only 300 innings is horrible. For a full season, like if he had 900 innings or so right now and onlyy -8, that would be below average but not necessarily horrible. And DRS is a rolling year, and can be used after one year, unlike UZR which rolls in many year. Read the glossary.
  10. In 300 or so innings in CF this year, he has managed -8 DRS. That's pretty horrible. Anyway, this is starting to sound like the whole Sano was okay in RF conversation so I'm going to end my part of this debate now :-)
  11. And he's been awesome. Was just named player of the week. The game he played after he found out, he celebrated by hitting two HR. But he hasn't had that many PAs, so he could technically be called a prospect :-)
  12. He has a negative DRS at every position he's played except 3B where he's only played 10 innings. He managed to get -1 DRS in only 9 innings at 2B. Not easy to do. In the corners, he's only been at -1 (at each corner, not combined).
  13. shudder to think there's actually a worse one than Santana. Santana who can't hit, steal a base or field at a quality MLB level. it takes a lot of talent to be horrible at every aspect of the game and still have a semi-regular gig (which is how he has been played by Molitor).
  14. Anyone who thinks signing a guy like Punto should be a team's #1 offseason priority probably needs to be fired.
  15. The problem people had with Punto was how he was utilized by Gardy and some of the things Gardy said about him. Gardy saying things like: -Punto is the best defender we have at whatever position he's at. -The #1 offseason priority for this team should be to re-sign Punto to be the starting shortstop. -If everyone else on the team was doing their job, no one would talk about Punto's inability to hit. Things like that, and that's only the tip of the iceberg. To me, the disdain Punto got was completely unfair to Punto (though I admit, I am embarrassed to say there were times I was there too) Truth is, all Punto ever did for us was give 100% all the time. What was he going to do, tell Gardy he won't play when Gardy keeps putting him in the lineup? Also, Punto never had a negative fWAR with the Twins.
  16. there's a reason they sit at 29th in defense. :-)
  17. exactly. besides, Escobar is perfectly acceptable as a utility IF. and if Buxton ever becomes a regular MLB player, Grossman/Rosario will be fine as a 4th OF.
  18. The problem with being okay with the position players because our offense is 9th in the AL out of 15 in scoring is that these are the same guys who also play the field and our defense is 14th in the AL. So now we are looking at our position players being ranked 11th out of 15.
  19. Last year, the discussion about trading Gibson came up. I was a proponent of it, many others said it would be a bad move because he was turning a corner and about to be a quality starter. Is it okay to trade Gibson now (or just not tender him a contract), or are we going to bank on the supposed potential of a guy who will be 29 in a few months?
  20. Well, I don't know about any of his national broadcasts, just his FSN ones, but yeah. Thing is, when it comes to actual pitching and mechanics, he's worth listening to. Admittedly those are rare occasions :-) In that way, he's a lot like Harold Reynolds. If Harold isn't talking middle IF defense, he's not at all worth listening to.
  21. The bases empty versus men on comparison I gave stemmed from 300 and 211 PA respectively. Not a lot, but combined with what Bert and Jack have noticed and mentioned it starts to at least outline a picture. How small of sample sizes do you consider valid to try and gleen info from? For example, your first one has happened during 8 PAs this year. Your second one isn't in the stretch. Your 3rd one has happened during 16 PAs this year, your 4th one has happened during 4 PAs this year. Your 5th one has happened during 4 PAs this year. Your 6th one has happened during 4 PA this year. But, again, not my hypothesis, it was another poster's along with Jack's and Bert's. I was just providing info.
  22. And maybe so, but Bert and Jack have noted differences in performance/delivery/command between how he does in full versus stretch positions. Can't discount a mechanical issue.
  23. May seems to have problems (performance and physical) coming into games in relief. He's meant to be on a regular routine, in other words a starter. Since he did so well as a starter last year, that's where he should be.
  24. I'm not assuming anything. I'm giving the numbers asked for by one poster after another poster said he does worse in the stretch (the same thing Jack and Bert have said). People are drawing their own conclusions.
  25. With no one base, he allows a .281/.317/.449 line against with a 4.86 K/BB ratio. With runners on (presumably when he is in the stretch), he allows a .328/.386/.630 line against. His K/BB ratio drops 3 points (4.86 with bases empty 1.87 with men on base)
