  1. never read it in his weekly Fangraphs chats, which I read and/or participate in every week. I will be looking out and asking him about it though.
  2. Except we don't know that it was De Leon and junk. We don't know what the offer was so how do we know it was junk? Also, there is no consensus on what constitutes junk in regards to the prospects. Additionally, you have no issues slamming people who are criticizing the FO with no idea who the other players offered were and at the same time, also without knowing who the other players offered were, you're comfortable with calling them junk. We know that the offer was built around De Leon. Probably the only true fact we know. Passan's tweet seems to suggest that the 3rd prospect was the issue. Whether that means the 3rd prospect wasn't good enough for the Twins or a 3rd prospect wasn't being offered, we don't know. Either way, I'm comfortable saying that there was more than one player offered, though AGAIN, not sure.
  3. The ROTATION had the worst ERA by .20. 5.39 is pathetic. Of course, having the 2nd worst defense in baseball didn't help. By FIP, the worst rotation was the Reds. The Twins and Royals ONLY tied for being the next worse by FIP. But other than that, I too am having issues wrapping my head around the idea this team is about to turn things around because young guys are getting older and the rotation was somehow not as bad as they were. I also wonder about how drastic the difference behind the plate will be, Mostly, the talent just isn't there, IMO. I was saying this towards the end of 2015 and during the offseason before 2016 too.
  4. nice Teddy Bear. My daughter would be jealous.
  5. Some people made that deal out to be more than it was. Some interesting descriptions of that signing were thrown around. Many people may have thought it was the beginning of an awesome offseason, but some have been fooled before and some weren't going to this time.
  6. Again, very doubtful it was a 1:1 offer, but whatever.
  7. We'll just kept drafting and hoping.
  8. Well, believing it sure helps believe the Twins did the right thing.
  9. yeah, I do. I also know that it has continued and the people running the Rays probably didn't just forgeet it all. Could be wrong though.
  10. i looked at the overall list. Not one lefty ahead of him. So #7 RHP and #7 pitcher.
  11. mlb lists him as the 33rd prospect, and the 7th best pitching prospect.
  12. I read Cameron a lot and I have never heard this point of view expressed by him.
  13. As a team with a very good track record for identifying and developing starters, Rays GM said of the trade,'The way we have him evaluated and his proximity to the big leagues, it was an opportunity we couldn't pass up as an organization.'
  14. they are both interesting viewpoints.
  15. it was Jeff Sullivan who wrote the first piece, not Zimmerman And in Dave's piece, he said, as he said before, that De Leon is an overpay for Forsythe.
  16. most posters DO realize these things, but they also realize there are only so many ways to get quality pitching. Our draft and development has failed forever, and we wont sign top notch starters (cause, again, price too high except in the case of FA, price is too high in actual money as opposed to a player). So we have to take chances on trading for young pitchers. Especially ones as well regarded as De Leon. If we always on how bad they COULD be and that stops us from trading for them, then we really restrict our ability to improve our rotation. As if we werent already hampered enough by what our team will spend.
  17. On his way out the door, President Obama quietly sent 221M to the Palestinian Authority. He did this hours before leaving office.
  18. I never said I thought the Dodgers were offering three players. I said I thought two players were being offered and the hold up was the third player (meaning either the Dodgers were not offering a 3rd piece at all and the Twins wanted one, or the Dodgers were offering a 3rd player and the Twins didnt like the player). In either of those scenarios, the 2nd piece isnt insignificant and it makes the offer more than De Leon straight up. It doesnt mean the 2nd and 3rd pieces are both insignificant.
  19. I believe Forsythe is a downgrade from Dozier but not a huge one. Dozier should have gotten more in return but not significantly more. I believe we were offered more than De Leon and that the hold up was the third piece, whether that means having a third piece at all or who the third piece was.
  20. Do these words sound familiar? 'when a poster starts to invent positions not taken by others, it is easy for escalation'. Anyway, doesn't make sense to me either. Then again, I never said I believed the Dodgers offered significantly more for Dozier than what they did for Forsythe, just that I believe they offered more (and Jeff Passan's tweet seems to back that up). Additionally, that article about Forsythe and Dozier being very close is just one person's opinion, who knows whether that's the same opinion across the league.
  21. Well, remember, getting Castro was clearly the Twins top priority from the get-go. I thought it should be trading for some quality pitching prospects, but alas.
  22. We got Meija for Nunez? Are you talking about a different trade? I must be missing something. Certainly wouldn't be the first time.
  23. Um, did Mejia ever pitch in the majors before the Twins gave him 2 innings? Nope. De Leon had 4 ML starts , though two were horrible. De Leon is more of a ML SP than Mejia is. Going into 2016, Meija wasn't a ranked prospect. De Leon was a top 30 prospect. So De Leon by himself IS a better return.(though, again, still not suggesting the Twins should have accepted JUST De Leon for Dozier).
  24. Nobody said a ton more, but not hard to believe it was De Leon plus another decent prospect, like Calhoun. Passan's tweet seems to suggest a third prospect (or the third prospect) was the issue. So who knows how good the 2nd prospect was, and it was the third prospect that was holding things up. You said, 'Without knowing the specifics of the best offer Minnesota turned down, it is difficult to cast any immediate judgments.' Based on what you wrote after saying that, it didn't seem you found it very difficult to cast an immediate judgment at all Your judgment was clearly that the Twins made the right decision to keep Dozier. Maybe you meant, 'Without knowing the specifics of the best offer Minnesota turned down, it is difficult to say the FO did the wrong thing'?
  25. 'At this moment, that looks like the right move. De Leon is a shiny prospect, and exactly the type of player Minnesota needed back as a headliner, but with a 1-to-1 swap and no meaningful auxiliary components the risks are sky-high.' -Yeah, we don't know what the offer was. Assuming it was De Leon and nothing (or nothing significant) just plays into the benefit of the doubt almost always given to the FO (regardless of the names). Find it hard to believe Dodgers offered the same thing for Dozier that they did for Forsythe (basically). 'And the Dodgers, at the end of the day, were willing to deal him straight-up for a player in Forsythe who is a major downgrade from Dozier.' -http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/dodgers-trade-for-brian-dozier-basically/ Major downgrade if Dozier has another year like he did in 2016 or improves. I would bet zero dollars and zero cents either of those things happen.
