  1. My tweet was quoted! I'm famous! Do the royalty checks come in the mail or...? RE: Plouffe - I've always been a big Plouffe fan and was one of his few supporters during the rough defensive seasons. It's nice to see him become league average to slightly above league average this season. I agree, his defense has been one of the biggest "perks" this season. The routine plays are, well...routine for him now and he's even made so tough plays look easy this year. That's impressive. First round picks always carry a lot of pressure to be the next superstar, and while Plouffe certainly isn't that, he is a solid role player who can give league average output to a contending team defensively and offensively. I'd say the pick was still a solid one for the Twins.
  2. Awesome news! It's time for May to make his debut, he's certainly earned it. The bummer is I have wedding to attend Saturday night. I've been waiting all season for this debut and it has to come THIS saturday?
  3. I'm not typically on the "Fire Gardy" wagon, but even I've reached the point where I think he'll be gone (and needs to be gone). Not so much because this losing is his fault - but just because the team could use a new leader. I'd vote for Molitor or Glynn - I think either could be a nice "new voice" (as new as we can ask for, anyway)for the organization.
  4. Everything I've read has been pointing to Manfred being the front runner. I think he's Selig's preferred choice and it wouldn't surprise me if he's the "next man up". It's an interesting process, and the odd part is we as fans won't really know what to think of the new commish (whoever it is) until a year or two into their tenure. It'll be fun to follow either way though.
  5. Exactly. Last night was a great example of why I always tune in. Twins / Padres? Two equally bad teams playing in August - skip it, right? If you did, you missed Vargas striking out on a breaking ball in the 1st inning, only to wait for that same breaking ball in the 6th. The payoff was one of the prettiest Target Field home runs we've seen this year. Vargas has such an effortless swing, at first I thought he just dumped the ball into RF - but his power is incredible - and that nice, easy swing deposted a ball into the second tier of the RF overlook. That development / progression of young players is why I think the late season is as much "must see TV" as the rest of the year. Plus, Phil Hughes is always fun to watch on the mound (STRIKEOUTS!)
  6. I'm gald to see Hicks has been bumped up to AAA. Hopefully the last few months in AA have helped build his confidence back up and he can carry that to Rochester. He has talent, you can see flashes of it from time to time - it just seems like his confidence gets shot and he starts scuffling. HOPEFULLY a strong AAA stint to end the year will help him grow, the Twins could certainly use him next year.
  7. I DO remember one of Nolasco's quality starts - the April 12th game against KC - and the ONLY reason I remember that game is because I was there. (So, that's kind of cheating, I suppose) For what it's worth, he looked absolutely dominate in that game. I was hoping it was the sign of things turning around. Not so much...
  8. I watch every game (save for the random few that conflict with weddings, birthdays - etc...and those I just follow on the At Bat app). The Twins can (and do) frustrate me to no end, but I come back everyday to watch them all over again. I love baseball and this team too much to stop paying attention simply because they're playing through a few bad years. I fully get why some people wouldn't want to tune in. I just can't watch / do something else if I know the game is on and I could be watching.
  9. Where's Ricky Nolasco in this scenario? I'm not necessarily disagreeing with your point, but I don't think the Twins will cut and run on Nolasco after one bad year and I certainly don't think they'll shift him to the 'pen with that contract. I like Milone as a 5th starter option, it's nice depth in case May or Meyer underperform or if another starter gets hurt - I just don't know if I'd kick out Gibson, Hughes, Nolasco, May or Meyer to get him a spot. Now, if he was a lefty long reliever...
  10. Max returned to the Miracle lineup on Tuesday and promptly went 2 for 3, with a walk. On Wednesday's win, he went 1 for 4, but plated two RBI. In Thursday's loss, he finished 1 for 4 once again and manged to tab two RBI (of the Miracle's three runs). With Byron Buxton playing CF for the Miracle (for now) Max has shifted back towards RF - his more natural position.
  11. He fits the mold as a nice super utility player. He can fill in at third, short, second and I guess, the outfield (ugh). I think he sticks around until the Twins get either A) a true starting SS or B ) a true starting CF (so Santana can move to short). Either scenario would allow the Twins to move Escobar to the super utility role and make Nunez a luxury.
  12. I'd rate the day a solid B. The Milone / Fuld trade was a great move by the front office. Flipping a waiver pick up for legit starting pitching depth is quite the accomplishment - not to mention, the flip happend only a few months after they picked Fuld up...incredible. With the dollar amount now official, I'm okay with the Suzuki extension. I didn't love extending a guy off a career year when his numbers point to this being a rare offensive season - but I'm not going to be upset over paying $6 million per year to a solid starting catcher. What keeps the Twins from scoring an "A" in my 'completely made up, no one really cares' grading curve is the lack of movement on the Willingham front. It's entirely possible the Twins didn't have a partner to dance with, but I'd really hoped they'd be able to move Hammer before the deadline. There's always the waiver route in August, I suppose. Correia will be August trade bait - heck, the team could cut and run if someone claims him. At that point, the spot for May, Meyer or Milone would be the most valuable return.
  13. I don't love the extension - but they didn't go crazy and overpay (and at least they locked him down, instead of letting him walk at season's end).
  14. The timing of the annoucement would support that theory. It'll be interesting to see what we can find out when all the dust settles. (Who was in, what an offer was -etc.)
  15. I can't believe all the Rays got for David Price was Smyly and Franklin... I like the trade from the Mariner's point of view, Franklin for Austin Jackson is a nice upgrade that helps them immediately. Of course, Detroit gets much better in the short term too. But the Rays...wow.
  16. I will wait until I see the contract numbers, but my initial reaction to the Suzuki extension isn't a good one.
  17. There was ZERO buzz surrounding the Twins as the deadline approached. Either they played their cards very close to the vest (and something is coming)...or they just didn't play at all. If Suzuki isn't signed to an extension before season's end, this will have been a mighty failure by the front office.
  18. Well, there went Willingham's biggest suitor. I guess the M's or a darkhorse could get something done, but I'd be surprised if he's moved after the Byrd acquisition by NY.
  19. The Vargas promotion is like a cool prize in a box of already good cereal. A nice trade AND Vargas gets promoted? Well, that's just swell.
  20. Love the Fuld / Milone trade. The Twins flipped a waiver pick up into pitching depth. Milone is a solid starter too. He won't be an ace, but this team has shown that pitching depth is NEVER a bad thing.
  21. Oakland is certainly going all in this season - that Lester for Cespedes trade is something I can only get to happen in MLB The Show. Hopefully this keeps up all day, trades are fun.
  22. Max has been activated from the DL and is back in the Miracle lineup tonight.
  23. That's intriguing. Sam has certainly been valuable to the Twins, especially of late (159 WRC+ in July). I'd be alright with the Twins keeping him around as the 4th OF next year, but if the A's are interested, it certainly wouldn't hurt to listen.
  24. Maybe we could get Vance Worley for him. (Oops) There might be a long term strategy there. Twins acquire pitcher X, pitcher X fails. Pitcher X subsequently traded to the Pirates. Pittsburgh fixes pitcher X - Twins reacquire said pitcher. I'm kidding, of course, but count me in favor of moving Duensing before the deadline, especially if the notion of DFA-ing at season's end is even on the table. Move him for value now, if possible.
