  1. I think Souhan already addressed this and referred to teammates not believing Perkins was working hard enough to get into shape. If it's true about his teammates questioning his conditioning, he maybe attempting to get a different message out to everyone.
  2. Similar to using just one stat like ERA the judge a pitcher? The WAR stat uses multiple stat's to come up with a number to value players. I'm not a Nolasco fan or a Mauer hater, but I think it's very interesting how they can have the value used to show Mauer value through out his career and have such different perceived value this year.
  3. Does this also apply to Mauer? Nolasco WAR 1.4 Mauer WAR 1.4 or is WAR just a poor stat?
  4. The Twins were in good company in cutting Valencia. Boston, Baltimore, Kansas City and Toronto always dropped him.
  5. For a 100 loss team, nobody should be untouchable. If Park has value and you have a in house replacement, you should have him available.
  6. Didn't Sano miss more time for injuries last year as DH then he missed this year as an OF'er this year?
  7. The Manager will be out of the job because you can't replace the whole team. Baseball is a highly individual matchup. When a player is batting, it's a one on one matchup. It hard to blame your Manager if they underperformed. It would be bad management not to hold them accountable for their performance. One bad apple can ruin a department just as much as bad management.
  8. So you believe Dozier problem is lack of mentoring? And people still question Hunter 's value to the team last year. Nobody gets all the blame, but to say the players don't have responsibility is a joke.
  9. Who is more responsible for your work, your boss or you? I believe individual's have a lot more responsibility than you do. Look at Dozier comments today, if he can't see that he has a problem, no amount of coaching is going to change him. And I think every team would consider him a major league player. One year ago, he was an all star.
  10. How are the players not an option? The manager and FO can't take AB's for them, pitch for them, field for them or run the bases for them. They are paid professional that should be accountable for their actions on and off the field. A manager and FO are paid less than a reserve infielder, so laying all the blame on them seems to miss the point.
  11. Like when Reusse called out Sano at the beginning of the year? No wait - we were upset he did it then. It seems there is no time a reporter can write a article critical of a player, unless it's Nolasco, then it's okay.
  12. And we should put this discussion into perspective - we have 6 pages of discussion on a minor transaction and we are comparing the Twins start of the season to a "major intervention" But if you only have a couple weeks to live - in the words of Fernando - "It's better to look good than to feel good" so go get that haircut.
  13. This might be a sign they are making decisions. Graham wasn't lighting us the league (I see the Yankees sent him back to AA) and instead of compounding the mistake of last year, they traded him. When you look at the relief pitchers on the 40 man roster and the players who will need to be added soon, if he wasn't part of the Twins future, the best move for everyone was getting rid of him. Isn't that exactly what many are asking we do with some of our veterans?
  14. No, home runs are excluded, in the baserunning section of baseball reference below. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/d/doziebr01-bat.shtml
  15. This will be interesting how it plays out. Even though Mauer has a high on-base percentage, he doesn't score a high percentage. Last year he scored 27% of the time he was on base, Dozier got on less but scored 39% of the time. Now you are moving Mauer away from the middle of the lineup, with fewer sluggers hitting directly behind him. Should be an interesting experiment.
  16. The most impressive stat is Mauer's contact rate this year. It's at a career high which must be having a huge impact on his strike out reduction, reversing a 5 year trend. It never made a lot of sense that a contact player like Joe would have such a high strike out rate. It's good to see him get it back around 10%, which should get him back to a .300 hitter.
  17. http://www.beyondtheboxscore.com/2012/3/15/2872579/height-weight-and-converting-to-third-base If we moved him back to 3rd - we could continue to blame the front office for moving him to third. He would be the biggest third baseman in history, how can they expect a 270 lbs player to play that position?
  18. Over the last 5+ years, I believe slugging percentage has actually been a better indication of runs scored than OBP. The game has changed and power is becoming what everyone is looking to get in the lineup. The top part of the lineup really needs Dozier to pick up his game. He had power, speed and he shown the ability to get on base. If he doesn't start hitting, he becomes a problem in the lineup.
  19. Even as a liberal, I am never surprised by the lack of accountability we hold our athletes to,see Aarons Hicks. If he doesn't hit,Twins fault for rushing him. If he does hit,I told you.
  20. Blaine Boyer is holding down the spot for now
  21. http://www.startribune.com/jack-morris-miguel-sano-is-around-280-pounds/374529411/ I guess it's time to start hating Jack Morris
  22. Not sure how many MLB player add 20 lbs during the season. But I'm sure he just growing, but we'll probably not see any of our other 20 year old players add 20 lbs this year. Let's just hope Sano doesn't continue this growth rate in the coming year.
  23. http://www.foxsports.com/north/story/miguel-sano-needs-work-on-defense-but-hopes-to-make-minnesota-twins-debut-in-2015-032015 Which would be a 20lbs increase from last year.
  24. Miguel Cabrera played only 3 games in the minors then 158 games in the majors at 21 and 134 games at 22 in the outfield. He was also the same height and same size as Sano when signed. If he fails because of his size, a lot of that responsibility should fall on Sano. I don't think the Twins plan was to have him at 270 by the age of 22. He have the potential to be the next Cabrera, but getting there is not easy and his responsibility.
