  1. I don't have a problem bringing Morneau back, but someone would need to sit him down and gently tell him he's not an everyday player anymore. His L/R splits (.817 OPS against RH, .557 against LH in 2013, .902/.569 in 2012) are telling of the type of player he's become. I'd have him back on a team-friendly 2-3 year deal, but keep him on the bench vs lefties. Perhaps he could platoon with Plouffe at 1B when Sano shows up sometime next year. If someone wants to sign him as an everyday 1B, the Twins should say "Thanks, Justin," and move on.

  3. Dozier should spend the offseason learning to play 3B; he provides a bit of pop with the bat, and it would be nice to have a utility IF that can come off the bench and be a threat for a home run in the late innings for a change.
  4. "There was speculation that Oswaldo Arcia would get the call, but Gardenhire mentioned that Arcia was removed from Tuesday's game for not running a ball out." - LEN3 Postgame: Twins getting a little swagger back | StarTribune.com
  5. Most teams don't carry three catchers. Most teams don't carry two backup middle infielders. Most teams don't carry 13 pitchers. Most teams have more than two professional outfielders on their rosters. Yet our Twins... this is what they look like today. Even though Florimon and Carroll came through last night, how nice would it have been to have real options on the bench to pinch-hit in the late innings for one or both of them. Instead, the options on the bench are now Butera, Carroll, and Bernier. What atrocious roster management. Is this on the manager or the GM?
  6. You and I and everyone else here may think that, but the guy filling out the lineup card every day wants to win that day. Until there's a trade and/or until Gardy gets direction from TR otherwise, Parmelee's not going to get the opportunity to play every day, fair or not.
  7. Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the 20% rule only apply to players that are going through the arbitration process, that aren't yet eligible for free agency? I believe the Twins have every right to not give Morneau a qualifying offer at the end of this year, and then, if he agrees, sign him to an amount much less than he's making this year.
  8. I think it will depend on how Pelf and Worls make out in their starts over the next two days. I hope they don't do this, but I could see them sending out a position player (Dozier, Parmelee, or Arcia) and keeping a 13-man pitching staff if the bullpen remains over-used.
  9. Great, because if there's one thing this team needs more of, it's five-inning, four-run efforts by its starters. Except this time there will be five strikeouts and five walks, so at least there will be some variety in getting to the same result.
  10. Here in Fargo, and I think this would be true for many stations on the TIBN, the "Inside Twins" show with Mackey is re-aired on Saturdays 90 minutes before the first pitch of the game that day.
  11. One thing I would like to have seen is another strong bench bat, a lefty, instead of having two utility infielders.
  12. You can't keep everyone, you have to take risks and make choices. I'm not saying it's the only right move. If a roster move needs to be made, I'm saying he looks like someone who would be a candidate to be waived and hopefully outrighted without being claimed. Left-handed or no, he's certainly not on the level of Gibson, Meyer, May, Berrios, etc.
  13. If they want to keep 13 pitchers (there ought to be some kind of law against that!) then they keep Robertson and Burnett, put Wood on the DL, and Walters stays off the major league roster - easy-peasy, no 40-man roster moves needed. But if they want to keep Wilkin, they have to move someone off the 40-man. Hernandez makes the most sense to me; as a soft-tossing AAAA type, he would seem to be the least likely to be claimed. He'd get outrighted to AAA after he clears waivers and stay in the organization. Also, don't the call-ups from last November have to stay on the 40-man for a certain amount of time? Herrmann, Theilbar, Hermsen, Pinto, etc. all fall into that category. But even so, I'd expose Hernandez to waivers and try to outright him to AAA. Sure, he had a good spring, but then again Walters looked good in the bullpen before his start yesterday, too.
  14. They can't put Guerra on the 60-day DL, he's not on the 40-man roster. I think Pedro Hernandez would be a good bet to be outrighted to make room for Ramirez.
  15. I have seen a few references to the Twins not needing a fifth starter until April 10. I believe that is incorrect; they would need a fifth pitcher on April 7 at Baltimore to keep the remaining staff on an every-fifth-day schedule. They wouldn't need the fifth starter again until the 16th due to the April 11 off day. Of course, one rain-out could make this all moot. (And I wish post this would format better.) Apr 1 Det #1 Apr 2 Off Apr 3 Det #2 Apr 4 Det #3 Apr 5 at Bal #4 Apr 6 at Bal #1 (four days rest) Apr 7 at Bal #5 Apr 8 at KC #2 (four days rest) Apr 9 at KC #3 " " " Apr 10 at KC #4 " " " Apr 11 Off Apr 12 NYM #1 Apr 13 NYM #2 (four days rest) Apr 14 NYM #3 " " " Apr 15 LAA #4 " " " Apr 16 LAA #5 Apr 17 LAA #1 Apr 18 Off
  16. From LEN3's Twitter account: LaVelle E. Neal III ‏@LaVelleNealHealth concerns. “@Anderson9186: @LaVelleNeal Any insight on if the Twins have interest in Marcum? What is he looking for in years and $'s?”
  17. First of all, unless you're the Marlins and don't give a damn about your fans or your players & their families, you don't trade a player (who seems very happy to be here, by the way) one year into a multi-year free agent contract. You just don't. In the real world, from a human relations standpoint, trading Willingham would send a terrible message. Secondly, where in the world are the Twins going to get any right-handed power for the middle of the lineup without Willingham? Their pitching was so bad last year that it hid the fact that their offense really wasn't very good - they were 10th out of 14 AL teams in runs and OPS. There are other positions to deal from, the Twins need to hang on to their one reliable RH power bat.
  18. It will be very dissappointing if any more than ONE of De Vries, Deduno, Walters, Vasquez, or Blackburn is in the rotation on April 1.
  19. Better late than never for this. Perhaps Gardy got tired of looking at his bench in the 9th inning and saying, "Darn it, we don't have a pinch-hitter for Florimon (or Casilla or Dozier or Carroll or light-hitting infielder du jour)." I've certainly grown weary of it. Carrying Butera and 13 pitchers way too often hasn't helped.
  20. Wasn't Waldrop just put on the 40-man last Sept.? He has options remaining, he can go to Rochester on a non-rehab assignment.
  21. It's all a moot point - Punto can't be traded until June. http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/schedule/important_dates.jsp June 16, 2012 : First date that Clubs may trade an eligible free agent player who was signed after electing free agency
