  1. Great first reaction, angle and speed to get to that ball, Denard!
  2. A lead? What's this? Kinda feels funny in my tummy.
  3. Carroll hits a grand slam???
  4. Butera's first AB? 3 pitches, 3 called strikes. Oh, the thick unsubtle irony (or is that anti-ironic?).
  5. Okay, going to be optimistic and call a 6-4 Twins victory with a 2 ER/7 IP quality start from the mustache, and Doumit as my pick to click (sorry) 2-5, 2B, 2 RBI, 2 R. Willingham solo homers.
  6. I'm already a Steelers fan as well, so not a big deal, but still a deal that would be upsetting. I'm a fan of (in order) Twins, Steeler, Vikings, Pirates. Pretting much just follow the bugs, not able to call myself a fan, thought Twins and pushing me this way. Anyway, this situation is great: I have a NFC and AFC team to route for, as well as an AL and NL team to cheer on. It's made me much more knowledgable about the NL, which I never followed as a Twins fan, and keeps me sane to have had a decent/good team to follow in both sports. I don't care about the NBA... at all, only college BB. So there you go
  7. Oh whew.... When I say the headline I immediately thought TJ surgery needed.... it's just how things have been going.
  8. Jered Weaver
  9. I guess I am (and was) hoping to see different approaches (bunting) in order to get on base from our speed/contact guys. I'd especially like to see more of it when you need to make the pitcher move to get him out of his groove -- I guess that means while getting no hit. I can see why bunting is bad form if the game is out of reach, though I'd personally never argue for this gentlemen's agreement. It's like the so-called bad form of running up the score in football. I don't care. It's the defenses' job to stop an offense... that doesn't change from kick off to the final whistle. I'll also say that a foul is a foul and refs shouldn't change that at the end of a basketball game, for the same reason that umpires shouldn't change the strike zone at the end of the game or for different pitchers -- unless playing the yankees, then of course one should call foul all twins' hits no more than 2 feet within the chalk. If a pitcher is going to pitch a no-hitter, he should earn it, and if that means defending against the bunt (which is a legitimate offensive strategy and approach), so be it.... earn it.
  10. Bwahaaaaahaaaaa! Love it!
  11. It's an interview like this, honest and forthright, that makes me like Gardy. I don't pay attention to most interviews with Gardy due to the canned and repetitive platitudes i.e., "the ball is coming out of his hand well," but I really don't think the anemia of this team is on Gardy. You are as good as the players you have. We have sporadic hitting and abysmal pitching. Last, I am very happy to hear that Mauer may move into the 2-hole. P.S. I didn't see the first half of the no hitter. Did anyone try to bunt (span or casilla)? Why aren't they trying to bunt themselves on more often, especially when getting no-hit?

  13. You know it's bad when the silver lining is seeing history unfold... at the expense of your beloved team. Losing Baker seems to have had a greater impact than just losing his pitching ability every five days. We are a RF, 3B, 2B or SS, DH or 1B, 4 starters, a closer, and at least one bull pen arm away from a playoff team again. That's significant upgrades necessary at 10 positions. Gotta start somewhere.
  14. How does a team fall so far so quickly? Nice game Weaver. The ball was coming out of his hand really well.
  15. Will we break up the no hitter in the ninth???
  16. That the Mayan calendar predicting the world will end December 21, 2012 is true. I guess 1/7 people believe the end of the world is near -- http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/05/01/us-mayancalendar-poll-idUSBRE8400XH20120501
  17. I wonder what the greatest run differential in history is, and whether we can break it this year. We have more than double the negative run differential of any other team in the MLB. Sweet.
  18. Remember back when the Twins scored runs late (2009, 20010), so that even on the rare occasion that we'd find ourselves down 9 in the 4th, there was the expectation that we'd at least end up making it a close game? Ah, those were the days.
  19. Remember back when the Twins scored runs late (2009, 20010), so that even on the rare occasion that we'd find ourselves down 6 in the 4th, there was the expectation that we'd at least end up making it a close game? Ah, those were the days.
  20. Hendricks start tonight really is too bad. I had some hope that he might be a surprise performer and legitimately earn a spot in the rotation. Yeesh.
  21. Everybody: No justice, no peace!
  22. Well, it's not going to let me post a screen capture.
  23. Thrylos said "WAR is cumulative. The more someone plays the higher it is. It is good for overall career value discussions (like HOF, draft retrospects etc) but not for immediate value... I think something like WAR/100 (PAs) is much better indicator of value at a particular moment/season." Yeah thanks guys, I concede that using WAR was not the best stat, though as you both show, we can get a season's approximation from it with some calculations, though this depends on games played and at bats... unknown variables. The reason why I used WAR to begin with was because it includes defense and base running -- to head off the objection that I'm not taking into account and appreciating the full value of Mauer's performance (besides just hitting by using wOBA or another stat like OPS). http://twinsdaily.com/webkit-fake-url://5F9336BE-A507-472F-9E82-62D5DB442650/image.tiffLet's just say this, in almost every statistic (I can't find one), Mauer is not performing like he did in 2009. It was his performance in 2009 that lead to his current contract. Therefore, I again conclude, in agreement with the author of this thread, that the anatomy of the boo/criticism of Mauer is not that he's playing poorly, but that he's not playing at the level he is being paid to perform at.
  24. 1. Mauer's WAR in 2009 was 7.9 2. This 2009 production was valued at 23million/year 3. Mauer's WAR in 2011 was 1.6 4. Mauer's WAR in 2012 is 0.6 (interesting that this number is lower, though healthy) 5. Mauer's production in 2011 and 2012 was much lower than in 2009 ----------- 6. Therefore, Mauer's value in 2011 and 2012 is and has been much less than the 23 million/year he made in 2011 and 2012 I've put the argument in standard form so it's super easy to follow. Now, this is a deductive argument, so you have to show that one of the premises is false in order to show that the conclusion is false. Now the inductive argument: I think the booing/frustration/criticism of Mauer is undeniably linked to the argument above as well as the team's performance. I also think this criticism is understandable and warranted. This goes for any player that is underperforming and not an myopic attack on Mauer. On an ancillary note: I don't care for narcissists or sycophants. Beat it geek.
  25. Can't decide if I'm outraged or don't care at this point. I'm authentically mad that I don't care about the Twins (as much.... not not at all) this year. But I'm trying to keep my chips in the pot.
