  1. I for one am glad we've held on to Span and Revere. Now if only we could find a power hitting RF and move Hammer to DH and Doumit to back up C/bench bat. Of course, in addition to lots of SP.
  2. Maybe AJ can stick around after the game to show Mauer how to pull the ball (out of the stadium).
  3. Did anyone think that wouldn't happen? Come on....
  4. Why can't Mauer turn on any pitch? This isn't the dome... still.
  5. Just a piece away from a championship run.... overtaking the Asian-immigrant-Americans is possible and a good goal to have for the final two months.
  6. We've overtaken the Royals at least. Things are getting better, getting better all the time.
  7. I'm sure that remaining and saved 2 million is now earmarked for SP FA in the offseason rather than just... well.... saved. [sarcasm]
  8. Since conventional baseball hasn't worked recently, I think they may try guerrilla baseball tactics.
  9. This just shows how much Liriano's last outing affected his value. I have to believe this is the case more than TR and the front officers are inept and couldn't get anything more. Of course, I reserve the right to be wrong about the front officers.
  10. Thanks Bark, now only one piece away then.
  11. I'll bet Liriano was inoculated with a latent microbe by the Twins medical staff and shipped to the ChiSux in order to infect them in the coming years. Crapsylitocus, I believe it is called. Symptoms are diverse and not well documented but they are chronic and invasive.

  16. If you look back through the thread, you'll see that you are agreeing with me on this point but not trying to confuse by calling both measurable stats = talent as well as the immeasurable though equally real causes of success.
  17. Just to be clear for those who've just joined the thread, while the forgoing argument has gone off the rails, the original question was this: What's the best way to make the Twins a competitive team again? Some have said that the Twins should try to lose for several years (4+) in order to accumulate higher draft picks during that time. Some us believe that a culture of losing is more harmful in the short and long run, pointing to the Pirates and Royals as evidence that losing in contagious and infectious, requiring decades to change... even with numerous high draft picks. There are further considerations about revenue and fan support to consider that no one has mentioned.
  18. To now lump talent with a winning attitude/previous success/mental fortitude/and all mental/and all other tough to measure but no less real causes of success at this point is sophistry. So is Liriano talented or not?
  19. You just missed it again. No is arguing that talent isn't required for success. "whichever way you do it" IS what the argument is about.
  20. "baseketball is a team sport where flow and teamwork matter a ton. Those things aren't that important in baseball, atleast not important enough to sink a talented roster." Which is it? Does belief and mental approach have something to do with winning or not?
