  1. Absolutely!!!! Needs to happen. If the Twins aren't going to sink the money into putting a quality supporting cast around him when he is in his prime, they should re-tool and free themselves from the 23M a year commitment
  2. The potential for awesomeness doesn't equate to immediate awesomeness. So yet another high draft pick we'll wait 5 of more years for...and everyone seems okay with that. Five years? Three to four for a highschooler is completely normal, dude. Some are saying he's still 3-4 years out, minimum... If he doesn't blow out his arm, or doesn't stall out vs better competition.....
  3. Agree. Never understood the either OR stance. I keep going back to the future is never guaranteed...and purposely constructing a roster for 2015 while ignoring the present takes some big stones...because if they are wrong about the talent (or the talent stalls/gets injured/whatever), Target Field is going to be pretty empty
  4. Absolutely agree!!! I think this is the sole reason many *prospects* stick around as long as they do compared to another player with similar stats...and really, it probably should be that way; might as well see if there is something there since the bonus is already a sunken cost.
  5. Succumbing to a 2 year rebuilding plan means wasting the last few years of Mauer's prime. Mauer is supposed to be a player to build around. Don't waste what's left of his prime rebuilding.
  6. Does it really have to be one (compete in 2015) or the other (compete now) though? Can't it be both? Using the Sanchez example, doesn't signing him/trading excess OF's for near ready pitchers/supplementing the roster to compete now/etc give us a chance to compete right now? I think it's realistic (not super easy, but doable) to expect them to try and compete to win now and in the future. The future is never a given, and whose to say Sano/Buxton/etc aren't just complete busts (shudder)??
  7. Ummm...I agree with everything you said except intercoursing the money.....
  8. D'oh! Congrats to him
  9. My point is the dude is 18 years old....how many 18 year old pitchers look really good, then flame out before they get close to the bigs?!?! My thinking is Bauer IS a young pitcher, who has made it to the bigs. Closer to a sure thing I guess...
  10. This probably shows why quality pitchers are such a scarce commodity....8 starts and GM's are drooling over themselves.
  11. Trade for him and sign him
  12. If the Dbacks were open to it, I would trade Berrios straight up for Bauer. Berrios is so far away from the Majors (and he may never even make it), to trade that for a talent that is ready for the Majors now would be perfect!!
  13. Preferably two that aren't terrible. Hehehehe
  14. We need at least 3 quality starters next year, he would be one of those. We can't be thinking if it isn't Verlander we don't want him because #1 starters are few and very expensive. 3 Hellickson type guys would go a long way to improving this team, imo. Agreed...that was the point I was trying to make (although I probably should have been a little more straight forward)
  15. Good analysis, but if I'm the Twins, I'm still interested (if the trade price is right). Though not a #1, he is a HUGE upgrade over anything they have right now
  16. If a GM has the right team that is in contention, I go 3 years 30 mil per year. If I'm the Giants, I think about that. They win the World Series with awesome pitching. Add a big bat enhances chances to win again. 3 year commitment isn't too long...Now, would Hamilton take it, doubt it. But I think it would be tough to turn down 90 million and a chance to make multiple World Series with a great pitching staff. (of course, the same could be said about the Rangers two years ago...)
  17. Feldman...if for no other reason than he can be linked to Seinfeld.
  18. It's one of the reasons I commend the Twins front office for not getting involved in signing free agent relief pitchers to long-term deals. Yup, totally agree. With finite resources, best not to gamble them on long term deals for relief pitchers.
  19. President. Free Agents want to see how much their taxes are going to be affected before settling on a contract
  20. I think one of the bigger flaws in determining the cost of the win from a relief pitcher standpoint is the super volatile nature of all but the best relievers.
  21. Or the Twins are doing what they always do WAY overvaluing their trade chips... Unfortunately that always *seems* to be the case that they over value their trade chips.... Well, except for Ramos
  22. Naked BP.....Sniff Em.....D'oh! Good luck to him, to bad with an org that runs thru managers every couple years
  23. Good lord guys, its Ervin Santana not Johan in his prime. You know the guy with a career 4.33 era. 3.0 B/9 and 7.1 K/9. Edwin Jackson will probably be signed for a similar, albeit multiyear, deal. He's also a younger, better pitcher. Yeah, the numbers aren't anything to shake a stick at, but a guy who misses some bats would be nice. Although I would prefer Jackson as well.
  24. Impractical Jokers on Tru tv keeps a smile on my face
  25. Agree. A little too much cash for his performance, but it might be a case of overpaying because of ack of alternatives
