  1. Great unexpected season, no complaints here (shocking I know). It will be interesting to see what happens with Molly. If he does not have an extension in the next day or so, my guess is he won't. I think I am indifferent either way as FalVine need to do what they think is best but it will be interesting. At least another reason for us to check TD every day! Go Cleveland!
  2. If he's benching guys because of bone head plays then Rosarios air mail was ok? I get it his bat is one of the few potent ones in this line up against this bullpen, but a weird time to send a message to a rookie IMO
  3. I thought about that after I posted...and Castro looked really bad tonight, I guess my only issue is are we quitting? Are we taking players out? Did they move rosario to center and take out Granite because of the missed base?
  4. was Castro taken out earlier in the game? Why was he pinch hit for by a middle infielder? Not sure it matters against this bullpen.
  5. If we had the Yankees pitching staff then yes, great, fine. There are 3 to 4 pitchers I want the Twins to be using in this game (if they have to). Erv and Berrios are two of them. I don't want Gibby or anyone else not Hildy (and one of Rogers/Belisle) in that game. Again, if the Twins cannot stick to their winning formula, well I don't see much chance of success. Once we are down runs against that starter and their bullpen, well it's gonna be super hard. I would rather have the bench players for pinch running and pinch hitting, especially Sano off the bench, just on potential (if we need that blast). However, I will say again, none of this is scandelous or outrageous. Just how I would manage this.
  6. Yeah, it's not the end of the world that Sano is not in there, nor is it scandalous that we are using 11 pitchers. However, it's just not the right way to manage a one game playoff IMO. If we are 5 or 6 pitchers into this game and it's not extras yet? Then we are in big, big trouble.
  7. ah...he's playing defense at a higher level than both of those guys, ever played. The twins as a team, fielding over all would be below average without Buck. With his defense up the middle, the Twins are now talked about as a top 5 defensive team in AL. It's incredible the difference his presence makes on the rest of the team. Now that he has hit consistently for a number of months...well there is my answer. B. B.
  8. This Seth. Bunting for hits, because of defense, or you are super fast, or slumping. I am fine with that. It's the sac bunts that are the problem, freely giving up the out. Mackey and co. were talking bunts in general and never mentioned our #3 hitter sac bunting 5 times this year (half of the MLB total for that spot in the lineup), or the early inning attempts/sacs (when I was listening). There have been sac bunts in early innings this year. More importantly there have been attempts at sac bunts many times throughout this year, that were fouled off and then they hit away. If we were a better bunting team, we would have a lot more sacs.
  9. Wade has also been my guy the last two years, as he's been fun to follow. I am also excited that Polacios had such a bounce back season. You cannot have too many SS prospects, and I am not convinced that Gordon is our everyday SS of the future. Not yet at least. Also glad Mitch won this. I wish he was playing more up here, but I guess the twins are not willing to see what they have, while in the playoff race. Too bad, as I think his right handed hit tool could be beneficial with Sano out of the lineup. Thanks panel for your lists, I do appreciate it!
  10. Update: 10 times #3 hitters have sac bunted this year in MLB. 5 of those 10 times it was the Twins. 4 of those 10 times it was Polonco. Baffling.
  11. Per Gleeman: The #3 spot in the lineup, across all of baseball, has laid down 7 sac bunts this year. The Twins own 3 of those. Polonco 2. Considering Polonco didn't start batting 3rd until like the last two weeks, when he has been the best hitter (BA) in the American League, I find that odd, but also not shocking considering who our manager is. Pretty sure Molly ordered it up (my gut), even if he didn't, he's created a culture of sac bunting is great! Just glad we won. If we go on to win this series, that game last night can be looked as the one that vaulted us through the rest of the season into the playoffs (hopefully). Gibson, fool me once shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me, fool me a third time????? What is that called? I love what he is doing right now, but have 0 faith he will do it next year. Just my opinion. I hope he keeps it up.
  12. Well we go it on screen but not quite the results we were looking for...
  13. We really really need this game. Not sure I want Boshers in a game that we really really need...or the rest of the bullpen for that matter minus a couple guys
  14. No worries, I am sure Gimenez, Adrianza, Goodrum will have our back....
  15. This... Oooops! I was going to savage Molitor and agree with wsnydes post, and then Adrianza hits a bomb... Molly your a genius!
  16. Thorpe only one on that entire list with at least as many k's as IP. Interesting.
  17. Tend to agree here. Eddie has far exceeded my expectations with his hot streak from June until, well a week ago. I think his bat plays at the MLB level. He appears to be able to hit left handed pitching. However, he is not very good in left field, and he is also not a very good base runner. I just think this is who he is. I am not super pissed at him for swinging at the first pitch last night. We needed to drive the runner in, to at least tie the game. It didn't happen. I would be more worried about how the Twins perform against teams with adequate to above adequate SP. Not very well.
  18. Per Gleeman: Twins' bullpen in August (since trading Brandon Kintzler): .194 AVG (#1 in AL) 0.93 WHIP (#1) 3.85 K/BB (#3) 3.44 ERA (#5) 0.71 WPA (#5) Yes they've blown a couple games, but with all the young kids we have up, I will take this great experience for them down the stretch of a playoff race with those numbers. Also, decent chance Kinsler signs with us in the offseason (hopefully not as the closer)
  19. My biggest complaint was just who was playing. You really needed to have this win last night to win the series against a terrible, terrible team. Molly has Gardy's fear of catchers getting hurt, so I was shocked to see both in at the same time. Why bring Garver up if you are afraid to play him at catcher? As we've seen from Gimenez, he is not very good behind the plate (not to mention his bat). Apparently his leadership is off the charts I guess. If Garver plays catcher, then Vargas can play first or Mauer. If Mauer plays then Vargas can DH. Also as much as I like Granite, it would be nice to have a real 4th outfielder, who can bat right handed. Playing a utility man in the outfield is not ideal (in multiple games no less). Not throwing out our best against a Toronto team that usually crushes us. This could be ugly. Of course every time I have thought this before this Twins team has bounced back.
  20. Suggesting Kyle will have trade value come next spring might be a little off in my opinion. I believe he has one more year of arbitration which means he will likely get a raise (just how MLB works, even though he has been bad). Which means he would be making more than the 2.9 million or so he makes now. I just don't see a scenario where the twins sign him. 2ndly, Kyle has been the worst starter in twins history with over 75 starts. You may want to look at Gleeman's series of tweets over the summer showing both old school stats and advanced stats. None are very kind. Here's a few: Kyle Gibson has officially moved past Nick Blackburn for the worst ERA+ in Twins history (min. 75 starts): 85 Kyle Gibson 86 Nick Blackburn Kyle Gibson homers per nine innings: 2014: 0.6 2015: 0.8 2016: 1.2 2017: 1.7
  21. Being a bottom seed is since the 2nd wild card format? With 85 wins or less? I'd love to know who?
  22. You are comparing the 1987 Twins and their one playoff series win (to get to the World Series), to what MLB teams have to do 30 years later? A WC team has to win 3 series just to get to the World Series. Just not the same and the odds of a team, barely .500 or better beating teams like that goes down every series they play. IMO
  23. Was it me or was his velo way down tonight?
  24. It's been great to watch the bounce back, especially against a good Brewers team (albeit the worst RISP team in MLB). To me it's been a perfect case scenario, we sold some stuff, got value back and are again competing. All year we have been competing because of our young kids (and Erv). There is no better way to prepare for next year. If we end up staying in it, how great will that experience be for our young guys? Yes I am excited. That being said. Mauer is not having that much better of year than last year. We need to think about platooning him with Garver or a waiver wire trade as has been suggested. It's nice Dozier is heating up, as we know what that could mean, but for the vet calling out the FO, then striking out 5 times in a game and not hustling out a grounder to first..I am holding off on my praise for him. Lead by example, not words. Love that Polonco is restoring our faith as a hitter. Him not panning out would be a huge blow to this team and our future 2nd base options. Rosario is having a defining offensive year, as he may have fought through his awful bad habits at the plate. However, he literally almost makes one mistake a game in the field or on base, which is still concerning. Finally I say we let the bullpen go, sink or swim, and hopefully our Manager stops riding guys with 4 run leads. Need to trust the young kids. It's great experience. Win Twins!
