""Nothing Falls But Raindrops" outfield..." Except when Grossman is playing. He's a brutal outfielder.

If he has a year like last year the Twins might offer 2 yrs at $7-8M per year. If not he'll retire. I can't see him playing anywhere else for any price.

Article: Sano Going To Let It Eat

Hero worship is for the young and naive. The older I get the less I believe in heroes, especially among athletes and celebrities. And I have never looked at modern politicians as heroes. Call it experience. The sooner you realize that they're just humans with the same flaws as everyone else the better off you'll be.

Article: Miguel Sano And Negativity Bias
djvang replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I like Reusse most of the time but life is too short to waste it reading Souhan. Too much pious virtue signalling from him. -
I was at the game and called Jackson's HR. Boshers should have been yanked after he walked the lefty he was brought in to face.

We left the game when Kintzler gave up the leadoff hit in the ninth. I simply can't watch that guy pitch. I used to do the same thing with Guardado. It's maddening to see him put guys on base almost every single outing.

I keep hearing that Buxton's "stroke" is the problem. That his swing is too long to succeed in the majors. If that's true, why didn't they notice that and correct it while he was in the minors?

I'm not convinced Polanco has enough arm for SS. He seems to know it too and rushes his throws. Hopefully they'll be able to keep Adrianza in AAA as a backup. Dozier could still be dealt during the season with Polanco moved to 2B.- 85 replies

Sano is supposed to be the foundation of the franchise for the next ten years so I am more concerned about him than ESan. Agree about DSan.- 10 replies

Article: Report From The Fort: Colombia Conquered
djvang replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Was at the games Mon, Wed & Thurs. I'm starting to get very concerned about Sano. He's very impressive in batting practice but facing live pitching, not so much. The book on him seems to be to freeze him with two breaking pitches, which he check swings at, then blow a chest-high fastball by him. He seems perturbed when he doesn't get fastballs down the middle. Wouldn't be surprised to see Dozier dealt sometime before the trading deadline with Polanco moved to 2B and Adrianza in at SS.- 10 replies

Article: Forecasting Mauer's Remaining Years
djvang replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'd just like to see him try something different at the plate for once. Stop letting the first pitch go by. He used to be a great two-strike hitter. He's not anymore. Whatever that pitch is that he always grounds to 2B, STOP SWINGING AT IT! He still seems to think he's MVP Joe and his approach to hitting doesn't need to change. His numbers show that's not true. Does management even suggest it to him? -

Article: What Are Molitor's Infields Telling Us?
djvang replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The problem is in red. They're stuck with Mauer's mediocrity for two more seasons. They could get some real pitching help for $23M/year. Damn no-trade contract. Without him their IF would be Sano/Vargas 1B/DH, Dozier 2B, Escobar SS, Polanco 3B, Santana utility. OF of Rosario, Buxton & Kepler. Trade Plouffe for whatever they can get. He's become too muscular and injury prone. He's also become the slowest Twin since Matt LeCroy. Mauer is a wet blanket over the whole team. They'll never compete until he's gone. Just heard Reusse predict that Mauer would retire after this season because of bad legs. I'll believe that when I see it. Fingers crossed.- 61 replies

Article: Twins Trade Deadline Tidbits
djvang replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
NO ONE wants a guy who makes $23M/yr and seems perfectly content to bat .270, 10 HR, 60 RBI. And he would veto any trade attempt because he knows he would be savaged anywhere but in his home state. -
I don't think there's much mgmt can do other than start throwing big money at top free agents in the off-season, which they've never done. None of their players have much trade value. Their strategy for the past several years has been basically "Wait till Buxton and Sano get here". Well, they're here and they're not doing much. Now what? They gambled on Buxton and Sano just like they gambled on Morneau and Mauer. The jury's still out on B & S but the M & M gamble was a bust because of Morneau's injuries and Mauer deciding that .270, 10 HR, 70 RBI is just fine for $21M/year, no need to change his approach. So they're stuck hoping that their current young talent will blossom. But that's what they were relying on for this season and it didn't happen. That's a tough sell for fans who are rapidly losing patience.

Article: What Was Your Favorite Kevin Jepsen Moment?
djvang replied to Parker Hageman's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Why is it that relievers seem to appear from nowhere to be great for awhile and then turn awful at the snap of a finger? Jepsen was great last year and awful this year. -
He won't get many doubles down the LF line anymore because they're playing him about 15 feet off the line. Is he even capable of pulling the ball other than grounders to 2B? Does he even try? He's the master of the "useless hit". Doesn't get hits when the game is close but always when behind 8-2 in the 8th. But he's untouchable to mgmt.

Article: The More Things Change, The More Things Change
djvang replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The youngsters need to play every day. The question is should it be in AAA or the majors? Is flailing away in the majors better than doing well in AAA? Personally I think TR gave in to fan pressure and rushed everyone up before they were ready.- 55 replies

Article: Where Are The Prospects?
djvang replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
"Baseball, like life, is all about adjustments, and hopefully these young players will be able to do just that." Exactly. The league has learned how to pitch to these guys - low outside breaking balls to Sano, anything but strikes to Rosario, any breaking ball to Buxton, no more high inside fastballs to Dozier. It's frustrating to see the lack of adjustment by them in return.- 71 replies

I think their "plan" was simply for the younger players to get better. Rosario & Sano had good years but pitchers have learned their weaknesses and they haven't adjusted. Sano apparently did nothing in the off season except gain weight. Rosario will swing at anything. Buxton & Kepler should spend most of the year in AAA learning to hit instead of flailing away in the majors. We're seeing the peril of having a young, immature, inexperienced team with no leadership on the field. They really miss Hunter. Remember 1982 and 102 losses with young Hrbek, Gaetti, Brunansky, Laudner, & Viola. It's takes times for youngsters to figure it out. And sometimes they never do.
