  1. I can personally attest that it is extremely hard to drive with concussion symptoms. Far worse than being totally drunk. You can see, but you lose track of what things are. In my case, I slowed down, veered to the side, then banged into a parked car. I could see the car, but I could not think of what to do to avoid hitting it. Thing is, the previous day I had been knocked flying from my bicycle, but I didn't notice concussion symptoms until the next day. I did not feel "clear headed" for almost a year afterwards. Concussions are horrible, terrifying things. Maybe the worst part is, the damage from concussions does not fully heal, and it tends to accumulate over time. I feel bad for Joe Mauer. His symptoms may fade, but he will be vulnerable to concussion symptoms for the rest of his life.
  2. Bring up Gordon, Wade, Rooker, and Navaretto. Cut Wilson, Grossman, Petit, and Adrianza. Better hitting.
  3. Yup, it was that bad. That's why I concluded he needs around ten more days of working on his form and rhythm to catch up to the rest of the pitching staff. Lynn's off-speed stuff was all over the place, which created walks, which created more pressure on him, which made him throw nothing but fastballs to the guy that hammered one of just two homers in his career with three men on base. The good news is, Lynn clearly has excellent stuff. Once his command comes around, he should be a valuable arm in the middle of the rotation.
  4. Overall, Lance Lynn looked like a pitcher that was a couple weeks behind the others in his spring training preparations. Very shaky command, which comes down to finding his rhythm and pace. He should look a lot better next time out, and then be back to his normal self for his third start. He's got a live arm, good action on his off-speed pitches, and in about ten days he'll have his usual command back. Not worried. This still looks like the most solid starting four I've seen for the Twins in many years, and the bullpen looks pretty well stocked, too.
  5. I like Duke's frisbee curve. Might work better in warmer weather.
  6. "I like this Duke." For five points, name that movie.
  7. Lemme get this straight: Castro on 3rd, 3B "40 feet from the bag," Joe Mauer batting, and he's a very good bunter, but he didn't bunt, and Castro didn't lead off 30 feet. They were conceding a run on a bunt down the line. Twins decided to swing away, fly ball, no runs score. Genius!
  8. Game of inches. Good effort by Buck. This game is anybody's, and the Twins are good against relief pitchers.
  9. Goofy play on that pop up. Gotta make 'em pay for that.
  10. I just noticed something. Starting pitcher is gone, and it's just the 6th inning. I remember last season, that was often good news for the Twins.
  11. Dozier: I'm feeling pretty good about my game. How 'bout you guys?
  12. I will say Lynn has a live arm. Like Phil Hughes from six years ago, but less command.
  13. Didn't take a genius to know a fastball was coming. Even Moran knew it. :-O
  14. It really looks like Buxton forgot everything he learned last season. He just struck out on three pitches that were all out of the zone, low, high, lower. Meat, get a clue!
  15. Wow, that one needed a flight attendant. Maybe the shutouts were not totally sustainable.
  16. They're now sitting squarely on the fastball. Lynn has to get an off-speed pitch over the plate.
  17. Bartolo Colon nods in agreement. ;-)
  18. Bert says Lynn has four 'plus' pitches. Plus what, distance?
  19. Looking at Lance Lynn's generous gut, I'm thinking he didn't take up pilates over the winter.
  20. 40F in Pittsburgh. Not cold, if you get to wear your puffy jacket.
  21. MLB netcast active at 10am San Diego time. Lance Lynn tries out for a spot on the roster. All he needs is 6 or 7 innings of shutout ball. As the fourth starter, he is allowed a few more hits. Sustainable? Sure, sure! Oh, wait, it's April 2nd now... Skol Twins!
  22. It looks like Gibson has finally turned the corner to become a very dangerous pitcher. Clearly the Orioles' hitters were unable to read his pitches, which means Gibson is hiding the ball well and also releasing different pitches from the same spot, giving hitters very little information to cheat. This approach makes all his pitches more effective, resulting in what we saw today. In fact, Gibson may actually get better, as he gains confidence in this more deceptive approach. Maybe there's no need to steer clear of guys like Machado. No more free passes, even for the best hitters. Time to get a little arrogant, Mr. Gibson!
  23. I re-watched the Duke past-ball play. Castro and Garver will need to work on their ball blocking skills because Duke gets guys out with that curve in the dirt. That's his money pitch. Other than clutch hitting, I saw a lot of promising stuff in that first game. The relief pitching (including Duke) looks much better, tho I have my doubts about Rodney's effectiveness. Odoreater looks like a guy that could throw several complete games, including a possible shutout. Let's hope some of his pitching acumen rubs off on the other guys.
  24. Sano will be fine. He's a very intelligent baseball player, very engaged in the game. Guys like that don't stay down for long.
