  1. Pain can focus the mind. Joe Mauer, perfect contact.
  2. Dozier clarifies matters. A 2-run dinger is better than a single.
  3. "Right now Dozier would trade 42 home runs for a single." Dumbest statement of the year? Verbal equivalent of Souza's dive?
  4. I'm hoping Rogers said "Thanks, Joe" on the way to the dugout.
  5. Wow, ultimate tough dig by Mauer. That was the worst kind of tweener bounce, and on the grass, too.
  6. I wonder if Taylor Rogers would become an All Star if he started doing pilates...
  7. I'll give Grossman props - he does seem to be getting better as a hitter. Is he finally maturing as a ballplayer?
  8. BTW, when I was a kid, my brother was on a team that actually did the passed ball trick. Pitcher threw it purposely over the catcher's head. Runner on third would take off, but the backstop would return the ball just a few feet behind the catcher. I watched the trick work a couple times. Hilarious.
  9. OMG, the plate ump looks like the nerdy brother from Two and a Half Men...
  10. Jack is saying just what I was thinking. Molitor should have every guy in the dugout go up to Mejia and say, "I want the ball, make 'em hit it at me." Let the kid know that he's not alone out there. Make 'em hit balls at his buddies. They'll get the outs.
  11. Odorizi just got lucky. Dozier missed that one by a fraction of an inch. Or the length of Souza's dive... ;-)
  12. Maybe this will be a breakthrough for Mejia. His teammates helped him get out of a jam. Trust your teammates, kid!
  13. Ah, the old past-ball trick. Worked to perfection.
  14. Now Mejia is showing the nerves. I really hope he gets over that crap. It's all in his head.
  15. Dang! Mejia caught the corner, and they won't show it on FoxTrax. Cowards!
  16. I'll never understand why so many pitchers seem to become Mister Nibbles around Robbie Grossman. He's a .260 hitter with not much power. Why shy away from the zone? Yet there he goes again, drawing a walk. Is it Grossman, or should everybody simply swing less?
  17. I'll go out on a limb on Mejia - He's going to be good. He does have stuff that should play. Keeps it low, downward plane, good action on the slider. If he commands his heater low in the zone, he'll be a horse.
  18. Weird, with the green letters on the uniform. I thought my TV had some sort of color shift problem.
  19. Byron Buxton is still bailing with his lead hip, rather than keeping it forward and letting the rear hip rotate through. If you see the lead hip move back even a little bit, even as the rear hip rotates forward, it takes away your reach and most of your power. What's remarkable is that Buxton still was able to hit a home run with that power-sapping hip action. I think this is why Buxton should return to the high leg kick. You can't pull back the lead hip when your lead foot is in the air and you're loading up to drive forward into the pitch. That happens only when both feet are planted, and you pivot the front foot and rear heel backwards. It's not what I dubbed the "French Mistake" that Hicks used to do, but it's almost as bad. The solution for both is the leg kick.
  20. Mickey's story makes me glad I write about sports from a safe distance.
  21. Stephen Gonsalves suddenly puts himself into the conversation for a September cuppa Joe.
  22. What makes blowing out the elbow again less likely is that the player, after going through the tedious, painful ordeal of surgery and a year or more of therapy, is finally ready to listen to coaches who kept telling him to change that delivery or he'd hurt his arm. The old "inverted W" comes to mind...
  23. I don't see much reason to keep Wilk around. Better options in AAA, especially Slegers and Hildenberger, depending if you want a starter or a reliever. Since Wilk is making room for Mejia, the Twins might need to reconsider one of their veteran relievers, like Belisle or Breslow.
  24. Lefties only for Breslow? Molitor's choices are a bit puzzling. When a guy looks good, leave him in! Especially with Pressly, when he's on, his stuff gets a lot of whiffs.
