  1. He has been very solid. He pitched 7 solid innings against what will end up being one of if not the best lineup in the league (most expensive anyways). Of course we find a silver lining that he always starts out great in April. I didn't read that anywhere this summer...No one stood up and said, "this is a terrible deal but at least he'll be good in April." Nope, we just threw our arms up with disgust about this trade. This is a professional who knows how to prepare for the season and is ready to go on day 1. Also Mauer has been mashing. The way he is hitting, I would bet he hits 20 HR's this year.
  2. I was impressed. I don't read into the error. He looked a lot better than a Delmon or Willingham out their. He can move better than I thought he would. He can straight mash.
  3. No one slid into first like my boy Nicky Punto
  4. He has a great approach, but like has been said, so overwhelmed. Even those calling for him to go to AAA to start the year thought he would be a little better than this. I thought he would at least draw a lot of walks from the reports I read. But he has looked utterly awful. I think he still will be ok and eventually be a solid up the middle player who has a high OBP and 20/20 hr/steals on a yearly basis.
  5. Can the Hicks line be .050? Or should we just let the kid alone, he might read this stuff you know. He might even be Aaron Cross incognito. OMG I just figured it out.
  6. So, from going over this post, the general thought is it we understand why KC was brought out and some of us agree with that. But most of us think that Burton should have been warmed up and brought in when poop hit the fan? Minus the name calling and bickering (which I admit I dove into head first), the argument is actually amazing. People sit on both sides and both have good points. This is what TD is about. Most people on here know baseball. Baseball is an easy game to second guess, and that is why people come to this site. I love football but I am going to have to say that managing a baseball game is more strategy based than football, it pains me to say.
  7. I actually think Butera is so good with pitchers, that they would rather pay him and keep on 40-man to work with super prospects May and Meyer. If he were taken off the 40-man he would be gobbled up by another organization like that. Financially, if he can help to develop May and Meyer, the Twins will easily recover that money in the long run. I know you were being sarcastic but Butera being on the roster does have SOME merit, not that I totally agree with it. Also, without Butera what would we call the Butera line? The Hicks line?
  8. I thought I made it clear when I said some of the website members TEND to be negative. Now if you interpreted that to mean "Everyone" then you misunderstood me. In fact, you misunderstood the post. The point was that the majority (majority being over half) of the people that post are usually ripping on things. My POINT was to find out the reason. Also didn't mean to offend anyone. I'm not sure what a "real fan" is. When I go to Twins games I see a lot of Twins fans and we have a good time. Most people I know in Northern North Dakota (where snow is on the ground 9 months out of the year) watch the Twins every night and follow them during day games. Those are real fans, fans who are diehard and live and die with the twins. When the Twins don't win, the next day is a little different, the mood a little melancholy. Even the students watch and follow the twins on a daily basis. I would define those as "real fans."
  9. May might be on the fast track to bullpen. Reminds of a story on espn today about nolan ryan: MLB Would Nolan Ryan be a relief pitcher today? - ESPN Posted from cell so im not sure if the link will open. Thanks.
  10. Hey puck...didnt mean to affend you...still pissed about my bracket. Just wanted to state that the tone of the website has become extremely twin negative and im not sure why. I have hypothesized with my friends and we have decided the website is not viewed by the people who are general fans. When you obsess about something everyday you tend to view it negatively ie: your job. My counter argument is that I do a certain thing everyday and still enjoy it evertime. I will let everyone else be the judge on why the tone tends to be negative on every move the organization makes. (I know I will get 100 responses about back to back poopy seasons so spare me that response please, my brother)
  11. I know it is cold out...and the snow wont go away...but lets talk about twins issues that matter. Now free slama
  12. Sad. The only good thing about the game is that my heater was working and I was dry. P.s. hicks needs to be sent down and never should have been here in the first place. Just hope this brutal slump doesn't have any long term post traumatic stress syndrome side affects. He is over matched as he should be making the unwarranted jump over AAA. Out.
  13. This I a great post. People were so pissed off about the Correia signing that they hope he fails. They are like Limbaugh hoping Obama fails. The guy pitched a great game and had a crummy 8th. Should he have been out there? I think so. If his pitch count is in the mid 90's, possibly not. But in that situation, if it is any other pitcher, you would have agreed with the decision. Every quality start from Correia is another slap in the face of people like ThePuck.
  14. I don't have a problem with it to tell you the truth. Everything cost money in pro sports. They could do what alot of teams do and not open the gate for home team bp. But if twinsdaily fans can find something to slam the twins on they jump at it. How about taht liriano trade we all hated. Looks pretty good with a back end major arm and a very good utility infielder. Tr is a genious and it has taken him a year to turn around the farm and build a better rotation (better than worst ever at least).
  15. I know it is early, but man it feels good to quiet those sabre metrics who hate the twins yet are twins fans.
  16. Yup, how many strikeouts have we had in the past two games?
  17. Hahahaha, this made me laugh so much. After one game, Vavra is a better third base coach because he waved a runner home. Anyone would have done that. Anyway, for me, the best thing about yesterdays win was the performance of Kevin C. Sure he doesn't have dominant stuff, but a lot of haters at Twinsdaily had to have felt like jackasses after that performance against the best offense in baseball. KC 1, TD-0
  18. Jim callis of baseball america now has appel and gray 1 2 on his list. The dreft is stacking up to have two stud pitchers and everyone else. It is still early but stanek has fallen out of top 10 and manea has also fallen a bit. I know most of us here at td would love a college arm but it is looking less and less likely.
  19. The track record of drafting high school catchers is really bad in all the majors (minus hof joe mauer). The twins will go with a college pitcher because they need pitching and this draft has a few grat college pitchers. Also, as many on this site love to state: the twins love drafting low risk players with low floors. This draft will have 3 to 5 college pitchers who match this philosophy. They would jump to draft manea or gray.
  20. One thing I would like to know is why Gray had to go to a juco first. Was it about grades or simply to get a di scholarship a year later. With an option of Appel who goes to Stanford and a kid who had to get his grades up one would have to lean toward the Stanford kid. Just I thought I had while reading the write up about Gray. Also sounds like the guy is a little off. The ba article talked about a super regional game last year where he showed up at the pregame breakfast in full uniform houra before the game. They later say that he went to every teammates room to promise they would't lose that day. Is this leadership or a guy showing his crazy side?
  21. Jonathan Gray is a 6-foot-4, 239-pound stereotypical right handed pitcher. He can throw his fastall into the triple digits and stays in the mid-to-upper 90's. He throws a hard slider at 87 mph. He needs to develop a change but his command and control are reportedly above average. He spent a year at some Juco in Oklahoma before transferring to the Oklahoma Sooners last season. He had a decent year last year and pitched in the mid 90's. This year he has ramped up his stuff and is 4-1, with a 1.51 EA with 39 strikeouts and eight walks through 36 innings. With Stanek taking a big dump to start the season, Gray has become a top 5 prospect and now ranks among the Appel and Manea's of the draft. My prediction is that this kid keeps up his stuff and does not even make it to the Twins. Not sure who the agent is, but I would much rather have this guy than Appel simply because of jackass Borass. BaseballAmerica did a story on Jon recently: http://www.baseballamerica.com/online/college/on-campus/2013/2614887.html. This story details his ascension to top 10 (as Jim Callis stated in a recent chat) status.
  22. Does Punto make the top 100? 50?
  23. The fingerhut.com pop ads on android browser are such a pain in theass that I do not think I will be back to the site. I use the web version instead of mobile...easier to navigate until before mentioned ad popups.
