  4. That looked awkward. I think if he lays out for it he catches it.
  5. Trade him to Cleveland, after watching 2 of the 3 games, he'd fit right in!
  6. Morneau's 2012 numbers (in 86 games) project out to 28 HR's & 102 RBI (162 games). He won't get to those numbers but 25 HR & 85 RBI would be acceptable given what he's gone through.
  7. Nice! Nishioka goes 0-5 with two errors (one on a routine grounder a 9 yr old handles) and he starts again. Granted Casilla isn't exactly ripping the cover off of the ball, but.... what crarko said!
  8. With Liriano gone now and Mauer and Deduno seemingly on the same page, can the team now get rid of Butera? Doumit and Mauer are a pretty effective tandem and Butera brings nothing to the team except for catching 1 day a week. Even if Gardy's worst nightmare is realized, losing the DH in a game because of injury to a C, Butera would be a plane ride away. I don't know who would be a good call-up, but maybe another middle infielder.
  9. Valencia didn't do anything in tonights game to cause Plouffe to worry.
  10. You gotta have bench players in order to bench players! While not a big fan of Gardy, he's trotting the players given him out there every day with hopes of winning. Monday night Liriano blows up, Tuesday night the bullpen s***s the bed, and today Blackburn proved again what a mistake it was to think he is a MLB player. That said, the defense and baserunning, once staples of the "Twins Way" and the days of the Piranha's, is horrible. Willingham is what we thought he was, a masher who's glove left a little to be desired. Revere also is what we thought he was, a fourth OF thrust into a starting role who's arm is exploited almost nightly, but runs down flyballs that no other player on the planet gets to. Plouffe has settled in nicely at 3B and Carroll is solid but spectacular wherever he plays. Mauer and Morneau are above average at 1B and Butera and Mauer at C are Gold Glove worthy. However, Span has stepped backwards both in the field and on the bases, Casilla is a mess, Dozier is, at best, inconsistent and Doumit, well he hits well and can catch the ball, unless he is in LF, where he doesn't know where to throw the ball. The starting pitching is crap, but thats on the front office, and the bullpen, well when was the last time Gardy handled a bullpen well. Oh yeah, the year he wore out Crain & Guerrier and Capps & Rauch were still good.
  11. Teams are saying the Twins want too much in return because they are used to dealing with Bill "Creampuff" Smith.
  12. I do not think Span is a great CF, but he is better than the alternatives at this point. If the team wants FA's to come here in the future they can't trade Willingham after a little more than half a season. Liriano brings the best return, but right now he is better than what the team has and they aren't getting another starting pitcher in return for him. If they are willing to offer him $12M and are currently paying Pavano and Baker upwards of $8M, I think they could offer $10-14M to 1 or 2 of the upcoming free agents and bridge the gap until the current prospects or draft choices are ready.
  13. Trading Span and Liriano for starting pitching does what? Right now Liriano is pitching as good as any starting pitcher being made available so that would be a wash and Span is currently better better than Mastroianni, Tosoni, Benson, Hicks, Thomas, Parmalee, etc... so that would be a step backwards. Same with Willingham, none of the righthanded mashers, Sano, ????, ????, etc... are major league ready. Starting pitching is the teams biggest concern right now, so keep running bodies out there and hope for 6 innings so the BP can settle into their roles. All hands on deck!
  14. This team is 25-23 since bottoming out at 15-32 on May 27. The teams needs are glaring (starting pitching and middle infield), but I don't think they should blow the team up because, while it MIGHT strengthen an area of weakness, it WILL weaken another area. Span, Willingham, Doumit and Perkins are good players on good contracts, Nishioka and Blackburn are bad players on bad contracts. Morneau is still serviceable and showing signs of improvement, though he might struggle when he returns. Mauer's contract is what it is and he is a future HOF'er at his current rate of production. The rest of the roster is interchangeable in that they aren't going to help another team, but aren't really hurting the Twins and there are more just like them at AA and AAA. A slow start by just about everyone hurt this team more than anything, plus the various injuries. Unless they are overwhelmed in a trade offer (which it sounds like Ryan is holding out for), keep 'em together, add some kids and free agents next year, keep drafting well and maybe, just maybe Your Minnesota Twins will catch lightening in a bottle sooner rather than later.
  15. No, Willingham should not be traded. Hicks, Benson, Sano, Arcia, etc... are 2-3 yrs away from making the majors. How many of you would watch Revere, Mastroianni, Mauer, Doumit, Plouffe, Parmalee, Carroll, Dozier, Casilla play. The team has got to keep some major league players for this season and next. Span & Liriano are the two best chips to deal, and then hope the kids at AA & AAA are ready next year and the year after.
  16. Once again the Twins grasp defeat from the clutches of certain victory. Getting pretty hard to watch this stuff, could have been a 4 game sweep to salvage the homestand, instead 2-5.
  17. Span's defense has sucked a** lately but maybe he should be DH'ing today because he has been raking! Unless there's more to his day off than just "getting a day off"....
  18. Willingham is going NOWHERE! He is producing and signed for 2 more seasons to a team friendly contract. Liriano's value right now, today, is as high as its going to get. I don't know our minor league system very well and nothing about any other teams systems, but I would think we would need to find a team that needs 1.) Starting pitching today (Liriano), 2.) An OF who can lead-off and is under team control (Span) and 3.) Maybe a veteran utility IF (Carroll) or veteran RP (Duensing or Gray) and has 1.) An excess of SP that is 2 years or less away from MLB and 2.) A power bat to replace Willingham, Doumit or Morneau in 2 years and some other throw-in pieces. Find the this fit and make the deal.
  19. If Tim McCarver ia good enough for Steve Carlton, Butera is good enough for Liriano. Goofy lefties anyways!
  20. Straight up comparison before Saturday's games: Kubel/Cuddyer - .278/.345/.504 .849 OPS Doumit/Hammer - .274/.352/.501 .853 OPS Same production, plus draft choices. Good call by good guys (Twins) on that front.
