  1. Well that's not true. Wander Javier was a top guy last year. So was Ynoa the year before. I think we're a bit too concerned about the cap but, in any event, the Twins do spend their cap.
  2. I believe they've used every penny, every year. It looks like they are going quantity over quality this year - as opposed to last year where they used their entire pool on one player.
  3. I have no idea if it's true or not but I do wonder if off season sets the price for the deadline. Did the haul the Phillies got for Giles set the price for Miller or Chapman? I have no idea. I suppose one could go through trades, year by year, to see if there's any effect but I would think - right now, anyway - that baseball seems to be valuing prospects slightly less than a few years ago. And that could be b/c I'm wrong or ML teams are younger or that the current minors top prospects aren't what they were just a few years ago. I also think - but could be wrong - that the trade market for starting pitching this offseason will remain a seller's market b/c of the really bad FA class.
  4. There's a thread in the minor league forum on this but so far, BA has reported the following 8 guys were signed. Wander Valdez, 3b, Dominican Republic, $495,000. Jesus Feliz, ss, Dominican Republic. $260,000. Stamy Gabriel Urena, ss, Dominican Republic. $130,000. Victor Heredia, c, Venezuela Francisco Martinez, of, Dominican Republic Prelander Berroa, rhp, Dominican Republic Junior Navas, rhp, Venezuela Michael Montero, rhp, Venezuela Read more at http://www.baseballamerica.com/international/team-team-international-signing-tracker/#67VwAJiXPf7UK7Hs.99
  5. That would certainly make life easier.
  6. I have to admit, I find articles like this a little annoying. A player has a ridiculous stretch where, if over a 162 games, he'd rewrite record books. Do we really need an article explaining that it's not likely to last? No. It's a hot streak. They happen. I know it's a thing they need to do for page views and baseball's a long season and they have to cover stuff. And they don't just do this to Twins' players - they did one of these on Trevor Story earlier this year, too. And many, many others. But it's dumb.
  7. Cleveland's SN site had a pretty good article on Kepler's home runs. http://www.letsgotribe.com/2016/8/3/12367136/whos-to-blame-for-max-kepler-turning-into-babe-ruth
  8. I agree but I don't think Molitor does and I think Molitor has a huge amount of say right now. If he didn't want Suzuki traded, he wasn't going to get traded. If he wants Suzuki back - and they don't sign a top FA catcher (and they won't), he'll probably be back on another two year deal no matter who the new GM is.
  9. I think you're right that the Twins value him quite highly. I thought they should have traded him but perhaps some people in the org felt that they needed him to play out the year and they expect to bring him back next year? At the same time, the new GM will be the final decision maker on that (I think. Unless Molitor has even more power). In any event, I do think Suzuki will be a Twin in 2017.
  10. I liked all three trades. I do wish we moved Suzuki but we didn't. Antony won't get the GM job so I think he did a nice job of moving non-important pieces while giving the next GM both more SP depth and the opportunity to move (or keep) Santana and Dozier.
  11. http://deadspin.com/phillies-fan-ejected-by-home-plate-umpire-for-heckling-1784740605 Apparently the fan was a bit drunk and yelling some sexually suggestive stuff. We rag on umps but I think this was a good ejection. I side with the guy who wrote "I don’t have much sympathy for a 50+ y.o. bro who feels the need to yell so much at a baseball game that he actually gets the attention of an umpire, Bob Davidson or not."
  12. I really like Arlo and Janis, as well.
  13. I'd rather we got rid of Molitor.
  14. Well, I don't think Smith personally scouted anyone. He just ok'd the budget to spend. I believe he made it more of a priority than Ryan did but it probably wasn't that simple - the article on Sano's signing mentioned that it took years for the agent to feel comfortable with the Twins. In any event, that was a hell of a signing class - Sano, Polanco and Kepler. International scouting evaluators will be mentioning that one for a while.
  15. Since June 2, Kepler is hitting .270/.340/.570 with 23 walks and 40 strike outs. 27 of his 50 hits have gone for extra bases.
  16. Nice to see Cabbage get some offense going. I thought he'd be our break out guy this year.
  17. I must have missed it in all the trades but who are the starters in the Dodgers OF now? I see Howie Kendrick is listed as their LFer on B-R.
  18. I'm not sure it's all that much better - at least as a predictive stat. There's a lot of noise in it. Guys like Radke and Santana have career FIP and ERA very close together but have seasons where they are both over and under by over .5 and even close to a run. I suspect Santiago has larger variables in part b/c he pitches few innings but I'm not sure.
  19. He's outperformed them for over 100 starts. When is the sample size large enough?
  20. Seems like Anthony did a good job for the new GM. He knows he's not getting the job - per Reusse - but is still probably remaining in the org. So the new GM can decide this winter what to do with the two biggest potential trade chips - Santana and Dozier. And he added starting depth while clearing out Nolasco. I wish he had moved Suzuiki but that's the only negative and, as others said, he could be moved later.
  21. Yeah, I was just thinking this. If he - or May - were having a solid season ...
  22. I think this thread is talking about Santana b/c of the rumors Jeremy put out there. I would imagine that teams are looking at Suzuki - certainly there have been reports on mlbtraderumors of that but nothing specific. I think Lucroy is slowing the catching market, but I have no idea.
