  1. Exactly, you don't trade someone out of desperation. If you don't like the offer, keep him. I'm not as worried that Dozier will turn into a pumpkin. He's been an all-star type player for 4 years now, he's unlikely to become a scrub so they can revisit trades in the future. But by no means accept 50 cents on the dollar.
  2. Unless he got hurt again, didn't we just see a (more or less) full season of Profar? His numbers in AAA were good and even in the majors his k/bb ratios were all right.
  3. I love the idea of adding Profar although I'm not sure what an even trade would look like. Texas would want a strong return of course. Is a stable reliable pitcher like Santana enough? I'm not sure. But Levine would have a pretty good idea of Profar's abilities going forward. But Profar would be a great addition, I think.
  4. Well there is some disagreement about how realistic Dave's sources are but he is right that De Leon has a lot of warts for a centerpiece - Injury history being the main one but also durability and ceiling. Dodgers have a deep enough system that the Twins should be able to get a nice return but we'll see what happens. As for walking away, yeah about 10 pages or so ago I was of the opinion that a trade won't get done. It's nice to see Heyman reporting on it so that makes it probably more likely than not to happen but I don't think Levine is going to trade away the Twins main chip without a strong return. So, I guess that's a long winded way of saying we'll see.
  5. Well, yeah, I could certainly be wrong. And if we get him, I would assume our scouting guys/FO guys think more highly of him than I do.
  6. The scouting reports on Stewart said he was a back end guy. And I don't really care about the cost. I don't want to use our best trade asset to pick up a guy we could just as well find on the FA line.
  7. I don't think Stewart is much better than Santiago. He's a #5 type.
  8. Not sure Dodgers want Santana. They have a ton of pitching already. I think other teams - Toronto - might be a better fit. But Santana should be a realistic fit for most teams. He's not great but I think many teams would rather have his two year deal than have to trust Nova on a four year deal, for instance.
  9. So, that's something, I guess.
  10. And doesn't fit an obvious need. Dodgers have pitching that we should be targeting.
  11. No, use the money on pitching - either the pen or the rotation.
  12. Well, the obvious response is that teams consider both potential future value and potential future risk. If they think Green has the higher ceiling but also has a much better chance of failing, they might pass on him anyway. And they also will probably take into account signing bonus demands. If they can get Faedo for a million dollars less, that will help them either keep the Pohlads rich or spend it on picks # 35 and 37.
  13. Is it too early for a mock draft? Of course not. Here's mlbpipeline's first mock draft. Has the Twins taking either Greene or Faedo. http://m.mlb.com/news/article/210967192/mock-draft-early-look-at-2017s-top-10-picks/ I agree with Callis' take: "Callis: Alex Faedo, RHP, Florida. Hunter Greene is the consensus top prospect right now, but I can't see Minnesota's new regime becoming the first to take a high school right-hander at 1-1. The Twins are more apt to take whomever they deem as the best of a deep college pitching crop."
  14. I'm just asking why we can't point out the absolute BS in his posts? TD is taking the word of an anonymous poster that the Dodgers and Twins are close to a deal while national media people are reporting nothing. And, in fact, were reporting that the Dodgers were working on other things and had just recently started to look at Dozier. When Thylos posted his "Scott Baker signing with the Twins" thread healthy skepticism was both warranted and welcome. I think it's fair to post that.
  15. Why is DaveW's veracity beyond reproach? I mean, he's a fun poster and all but we have regular commentators on TD - Jeremy, Seth and others - with real connections to Twins people and none of them are supporting that an offer has even been made or is anywhere close. We all know that the Dodgers have interest in Dozier - that's well documented - but, after that, DaveW is the only guy anywhere that seems to be suggesting actual players being involved (and suggesting enough obvious different ones that one version may end up being correct). And he's been been saying it for days while national media types haven't heard any of these rumors. Although those national types are saying that the Dodgers weren't working on Dozier during that time frame. It's not like Dave isn't above a little trolling for ****s and giggles.
  16. The sad thing is that Palmeiro was actually a pretty solid defensive first baseman but now people remember that (and the PEDS) instead.
  17. Depends in part on how you measure ace. Sickels has a pretty good definition here. An ace by that definition should have two plus pitches and a third average one. I think the Twins have three guys in the system who could be an ace if it breaks correctly for them - Romero, Jay and Thorpe. Jay is probably the closest with most prospect places grading his fastball and slider as plus or future plus. He has to work on control and durability but his stuff is pretty good.
  18. From Jeff Todd's mlbtraderumor's chat today: Petet 2:44 Hey jeff, whats the likelihood of the dozier trade happening? Jeffrey Todd 2:45 More likely than me going to Fangraphs, I guess. Still makes better sense than Kinsler, just b/c of the no-trade protection he has. 2:46 I still am unsure whether the Dodgers will really give something that gets the Twins excited. If they don't, I'd have to think the new FO won't mind the idea of keeping a very marketable player, esp since their young talent still leaves them some upside.
  19. Sure, there's nothing wrong with a #3 starter. But I don't want anymore back-end guys - and Brock Stewart, despite his nice year, is still a back end starter. Tryce Thompson and Willie Calhoun also seem more like 4th OF and UI to me. If the return is De Leon (who has his own set of question marks) and a couple guys like Stewart or Thompson, pass on it. Sign Nova or Ross instead. The offensive loss of Dozier is not made up by that package.
  20. Adding another Santiago and Escobar isn't going to make the Twins great, either. I don't see why the Twins should take 50 cents on the dollar back in any Dozier trade. If they don't like the deal, walk away. That's not the same as saying don't trade him. The Twins have a very good nucleus and have the parts to be a playoff caliber offense without really doing much. They also should upgrade their defense just by not playing Santana and Grossman as much. They need to improve the rotation. Ideally, they add better starters but they should also add better bullpen arms (and let May get another shot in the rotation). But adding guys - even with years of control - that are in the Santiago, Milone, 2016 Hughes etc isn't really going to improve the rotation. Hell, the Twins could sign Ivan Nova or Tyson Ross and not trade Dozier. De leon looks like a #3 type. Which is nice but I'd probably want more.
  21. If we think he's a one half player than the Dodgers should to and he has no value. If Dozier is getting us a #3, #5 and a UI, I'm comfortable keeping him. His offensive production will be hard to replace. Ideally, we're giving up some of that offense to help the pitching staff but if the help is marginal, why bother? Just because we have a bad team doesn't mean we should just get rid of our good players. If there isn't a deal we like, keep him.
  22. My guess is that Levine won't get low balled. If the Twins don't trade Dozier now, they could trade him at the deadline where more teams might want him. I don't think they can trade the best player on the team away and get panned on the deal. I'm starting to lean toward thinking they won't trade him. The new FO will probably want to see what they have anyway and even if the Twins do nothing, they will be better than last year.
  23. Yankees would be great, actually. They have a really loaded system.
  24. Good for him. He's probably better off in the NL.
