  1. Exactly. There's a difference between not trading Dozier because you don't like the return and not trading Dozier at all. It seems that the FO wants to move him but they don't want to take a bad deal. None of us know the offers or how the teams value the various pieces, so it's a bit tough to talk about it but Lavine certainly knows how trades work so we'll see how he does.
  2. Ah, hell, I'll bite - what is an elite slugging percentage for a middle infielder? And where does 'very good' start and end?
  3. Despite this taking 90+ pages of posts, it's probably a reach to call this a distraction. Both teams will have to move forward eventually but January baseball isn't that important. Eventually, the Twins will have to consider a team with Dozier on it and how to build that roster and the Dodgers will have to pursue another second base option. But we're probably not really that close to that.
  4. Maybe, maybe not. But worrying about his value in July is not a good reason to take a lesser deal now.
  5. You really don't because you're only taking it out on one person while making him compete against everyone else. That said, if we changed Dozier's 42 HR to 25 HR, he's second only to Cano and still has a double digit lead over everyone else.
  6. Honestly, it shouldn't affect the Dozier market at all.
  7. I'm pretty sure our FO understands that propsects like De Leon might bust and are taking that into account in their trade demands. If it doesn't work out, fine. We keep Dozier and can see where we are in July.
  8. Sure, Twins pitching has sucked for a bit now. That's pretty normal with bad teams. Obviously, if we move Dozier, we might be able to improve the rotation. But if we don't get an offer that helps the rotation, move on.
  9. Good point. I really loved that pick and it'll be a lot of fun watching him develop these next few years.
  10. So, assuming De Leon is part of the deal, what Dodger prospects are off limits? Looking at this thread, it seems that Buehler, Sheffield, Alvarez, Bellinger, Lux, and Stewart would be too much for the Dodgers to part with. Seeing that the Twins would want pitching back, what else can LA offer? Looking at Sickel's list, it would be guys like De Jong or Sborz (who I actually kind of like but not as a second piece). So if that's the case, I don't see how a deal gets done.
  11. That's not really that outlandish. You know what pitching rich team managed to do that as well? The Dodgers in 2016, 2014, 2013. Pitching is thin around the league.
  12. The Dodgers are having a nice little run but let's not get ahead of ourselves. From 11-16, your system has been ranked 12, 23, 19, 14, 3, and 1. Obviously, you've had some nice hits and you've used your international money and comp picks wisely but LA isn't doing anything every other team has done. Your success has been driven by massive payroll. Your teams pitching success has been mostly fueled by a great pick in the 06 draft and free agency, not development. That doesn't mean that De Leon or Urias aren't going to be great players but it does mean you're getting a touch ahead of yourself on the ability of your team to actually develop. Skepticism about De Leon is valid. He's basically a Berrios-type but a bit taller, older, less experienced. I like him in a vacuum but he's not an elite prospect by any means.
  13. You certainly have to consider durability and future health risk in any evaluation. JDL is a nice prospect but he has serious flags as well. I'm sure the Twins and the Dodgers are both considering those issues in the trade.
  14. Those are exceptions but the original posters thoughts are correct.
  15. Well that offer would totally depend on how the Twins view Sheffield. I don't think they were that high on him around draft time and I'm not sure he's done much since then. I think he's a closer and neither De Jong or Rios are anything other than AAAA types at this point so they wouldn't make/break any deal. Personally, I'd keep Dozier over that but if someone though Sheffield could start, they might take that deal.
  16. From what little I've read about the Rays interest, they are more interested in Bellinger (and bats) over pitchers. And Kinsler wants an extension to drop his no-trade clause (and Tigers want Bellinger too). I think if the Dodgers don't get Dozier they'll re-sign Utley or go with some in-house options. But Dozier really does fit them perfectly.
  17. I would imagine the Twins would want a package around their minor league pitchers, not Wisler/Blair.
  18. What if the Twins moved off of De Leon as the main piece and focused on something like Stewart and some of the younger arms that are a few years off - Buehler Sheffield?
  19. Remember when Ryan was in charge and there was never any leaks and we all complained about how the FO wouldn't use the media? That was fun.
  20. I'd love Albies (obviously) but neither Blair or Wisler seem to be good fits for the Twins. Low strike out numbers in the NL and lots of fly balls. Of course, Levine and Falvey know more about pitchers than I do so maybe they know something I don't but both seem cost controlled back end types.
  21. That would make sense.
  22. Shoulder injuries are pretty bad. I think the Twins should expect nothing out of Hughes and then be happily surprised rather than relying on him. Let him have a few ST starts but if his fastball is still topping out at 88, he's probably cooked. As for your other point, there are some Twin pitchers who should be better just because they weren't this bad. And guys like Mejia and Berrios should help as well.
  23. I dunno. If De Leon is suffering from shoulder soreness in May, we might wish we didn't trade for him.
  24. It was fastest RH batter. Not sure what the fastest LH batter time was.
