  1. One of the funny but not funny things going on is the absolute lack of anyone with a communications background vetting this ****. Trump calls for "extreme vetting" and then they send out a press release saying there's nothing extreme about protecting our borders. Spicer tells us there isn't a ban in place and Trump tweets out why they didn't announce the ban before implementing it. Morons.
  2. This has been a rough week - can't believe it's only Tuesday. As a reminder, the ACLU has been doing Yeoman's work trying to stop Trump. You can donate to the ACLU by clicking this link: https://www.aclu-mn.org/get-involved/supportus/donate/ I know some of the people that work there. They are pretty great people and very invested in their work.
  3. No, if true, the Dodgers only offered De Leon and "something", not Alvarez or Calhoun. And that's in line with most reports we've seen.
  4. Yeah, I could see something like that and the Dodgers replied with just De Leon. Twins drop one of Calhoun/Alvarez, Dodgers add 'something', neither team moves off that new position. Frankly, that would square with most national reports that we heard.
  5. Probably. Sickels put a B+ grade on him so he's probably in that list. I admit I'm a bit surprised about how he's fallen on some lists. His stuff gets strong grades - fangraphs gave him two plus pitches - but the concern about ability to start seems to be growing. If you think he can start with that stuff, he's probably an easy top 100 guy. If you think he's a bullpen piece, he's probably not. It'll be a big year for him.
  6. He's a piece of **** but he's also lying. We know that well over 300 people were detained and held for questioning and CBP has been very close-lipped about it so the real number is almost certainly much higher. This is like 9/11 all over again. Lawyers would contact jails and detention centers to try and find their clients and they would be straight away lied to about whether the person was there or not.
  7. http://m.mlb.com/prospects/2017 Still slowly rolling out their stuff, they do have the top 100 done but not team top 30 prospects, yet. Twins have three guys in the top 100 - Gordon #50, Gonsalves #92, Kiriloff #98. Gordon and Gonsalves also are in the top 10 at their positions - shortstop and LH pitchers respectively.
  8. No, but that's certainly the tone of the article and don't think TD posters are going to miss that. :-) The article also included some quotes from Molitor saying Polanco has a pretty limited ceiling at short and that most evaluators see Polanco as a natural second baseman.
  9. Going forward, if you find yourself writing something like "As much as I dislike the policy Trump enacted" you really should stop writing right there.
  10. Not sure there's much of a general consensus on De Leon - mlbpipeline held him virtually in the same spot in the 30s while Klaw has him in the 70s. Sickels sees him as an ace, fangraphs tabs him as a #3/4. That's a bit of range there. And obviously the Twins had their own internal opinion of De Leon.
  11. I'm not sure that's double discounting. His fastball is 91-92, we've heard complaints about flat plain on it and whispers he doesn't have a true out-pitch at the ML level. His stuff isn't on the same level as Berrios' although it is ahead of Mejia's. Additionally, I'm not sure there's much difference between the number 73 prospect on a list and the number 93. My guess is that the tiers are much closer than we fans appreciate and once you've gone down a few tiers, a lot of other stuff comes into play. Now, all that sounded unduly harsh. I'd love to have De Leon in our system and I think he's a better prospect than Mejia. I'm probably more comfortable with Mejia's floor but De Leon's ceiling - esp if I'm wrong to be so negative - is far more exciting.
  12. A lot of this just goes on how you read De Leon. I tend toward pessimism on him, always have, but if you think he's a Berrios-type, the Mejia comp doesn't work as well. If you think he's toward the back of a top 100 list, plus the sore shoulder, plus the age, plus the durability concerns it's not quite as out of whack as Nick suggested. De Leon is still a better prospect (fangraphs guy put a 55 FV on him to Mejia's 45 but also seems more sure of Mejia's future) but the odds of him having a better ML career than Mejia (lower ceiling, higher floor in that he's durable) is probably closer than some want to admit.
  13. I loved this tweet ACLU drops mic
  14. Nadal is better on clay, as I understand it, because the ball doesn't bounce as high and his LH spin is so different from everyone elses. And the clay slows down the court so Federer's speed advantage is neutralized a bit. I've never bought into his GOAT argument because he is such a clay-only player. He's "only" won 5 grand slams outside of the French, for example. Basically, his only claim is his head-to-head against Federer (which isn't a bad claim) but if you look at things like weeks at #1, longevity of career, best peak, Federer has him over a barrel.
  15. They aren't performing at similar levels. That's why you see 8th round college pitchers put up video game numbers - in every org - when they pitch in the low minors. In the long run, the talent wins out but in the short run, it's not particularly close.
  16. I think this is another example of the FO taking certain decisions away from Molitor. Adding Pickler to the dugout also helps. Molitor has a great baseball mind but doesn't seem to be a good baseball manager, if they can fix the things he's bad at we might not see the disaster we saw last year.
  17. Oh yeah, it helps if you're willing to live in a small shack on the outskirts of town without heat and rabbit ear antennas ...
  18. Nice write up. Frankly, I didn't know much about him. He dad played in the NFL? Bloodlines! Hope he makes it. I like the nugget that some saw him as a potential first rounder.
  19. We got killed in 08 in the housing crisis. I still occasionally stay up at night and try to figure exactly how much money we lost as opposed to just renting during that time. It's depressing. Since then, we've been a bit paranoid about it and we bought our last house with cash we had saved up and no mortgage.
  20. And now he's tweeting attacks at Mexico. In all seriousness, what the ****? This is the President of the United States? Can't we just impeach him now and let Pence screw everyone over instead?
  21. And it's a Nadal/Federer final! Wow. I really hope Fed wins.
  22. I like both of those guys but I'd be stunned if Klaw had them in a top 100 at this point. Both are really good prospects who could break out. But they are still in short season ball.
  23. The labor loving liberal part of me hates the draft and I think baseball really screws with young kids far too much. The baseball fan in me loves the draft.
  24. Nice article. I don't know how individual players digest information but I think it's a really good thing for them to have it. Obviously, Bautista is a very smart hitter but he has tons of natural ability as well so it's certainly not a cure all but if the information can be used to make the transition to the major easier (Buxton/Kepler), let's hope Pickler helps a lot. The Molitor nugget is interesting. I'm more than done with him as a manager but he certainly is a very smart baseball mind. Not sure why he isn't a better (in my view) manager.
