  1. Klaw had de la Torre on his overall list at 51? Wow.
  2. Isn't he still recovering from TJ?
  3. I'm ok with Barnes. He was 108 on BA list. Good secondary stuff and understanding of how to pitch. That's not bad.
  4. I think Rooker should be a fairly fast to the majors guy. I assume he'll start in A+ this year. That means, unless he fails, he'll be in AA next year and the Twins haven't been shy from bringing guys up from AA. He might have to hit a lot if he's only a DH but his hit tools seem pretty good.
  5. He started 2-49 in his first 15 games. In his last 41 games, he's hitting .254/.331/.369 .700 OPS. His k-rate in that period has been 30% and his walk rate is about 10%. He needs to walk more but he's been improving.
  6. Yes Mike. I know people didn't say suck but most people got that context. I suppose I should have used dunces? Would that have made you feel better? "Our scouts aren't dunces"? Seriously, the way you try and hijack and deflect because people didn't use the exact wording that you wanted is pretty off putting especially since you weren't even in this conversation. How many times do you write "Where was X written" or "show me where X was stated." Learn context man.
  7. I won't condemn the pick but a 5'8" shortstop? I'd pass.
  8. I think we have to remember a few things. First, Falvey and co reviewed our scouts write ups on many players over the last decade of drafting before this draft and apparently they trusted them enough to go with Lewis - the scouts guy - over the analytics guy - McKay. So this idea that the Twins scouts suck doesn't really hold up. Klaw has been pretty positive about them for years as well. I do think changing the draft guru from Deron Johnson to Scott Johnson can be pretty effective b/c it'll change the scope of what we're trying to do (less focus on fastballs), I suspect our scouting reports on players has always been pretty good.
  9. Dude, stop trying to calm me down. I got angst and your thoughtful prose is killing it.
  10. I remember that movie, I was swooning more over Julia Ormond though
  11. There are too many threads so I'm not sure if this has been answered elsewhere so I'll just make a thread for this issue. How much did we save. All three of these guys should sign for less than slot. Lewis - slot was 7.7m. We were told that he and McKay were in competition for the last spot and we got some savings. So maybe he signs for 6.4? And we saved 1.3m Rooker - # 50 on mlb's list and 45 on BA and lower on others. Senior with no leverage at all. Slot is 1.9m so maybe he signs for 1.5? (slot at 45?). And we save 400k. Leach - 101 on mlb's list and 85 on BA. Canadian with decent college commitment but will sign. Slot is 1.8m. Seems like he could sign from anywhere between 1.0-1.3m and still sign. Giving us savings around 500-800k. So we maybe saved, what, 2.2-2.5m? Maybe more if Lewis is closer to 6.2m?
  12. So, my assumption was that Lewis and McKay were being played off of each other for the savings and the Twins went with Lewis. But just a few minutes after we drafted Lewis, Jon Heyman - a mouthpiece for Boras - said the Twins won't be saving money on the pick since he's the best position player since Bryant. So maybe the answer is Boras is screwing the Twins. "You told us you'd consider taking 6m!" "Yes, and now we're down considering it and we'll sign for 6.7m." I dunno. That at least makes sense.
  13. If they draft Burns to start off the third and get Enlow in the 11th round and sign him, this draft starts to look a little better.
  14. I did want a college pitcher over Lewis but that is partly me being wrong and drafting for need. Lewis seems to be a pretty good prospect so ... still, I don't like bring Boras into our clubhouse.
  15. Just understand that you aren't going to change for her and she isn't going to change for you. So if there's something you are hoping will change after getting married, it's not going to happen. Make sure you've talked about the important stuff beforehand - religion, money, sex. I think it's good to have things to do in common - my wife and I both love board games, for example - but it's also important to be able to do things separately. I have a friend whose GF of four years still can't be alone without him so she's constantly texting him and calling him if he's out with me or other guys. Not a good relationship.
  16. But three underslot deals to start the draft? The good players will be gone by the time we start offering them money.
  17. Well, I'm glad you're happy b/c you probably know more than I do. But why pass on Carlson or Canning? Or Enlow? I mean, Leach seems like a third rounder (although I like that he's Canadian and only 17) so why not take him in the 3rd round and use our picks for higher guys? We'll see how this plays out tomorrow but I'm concerned.
  18. Well, clearly the Twins FO and scouts know stuff I don't know. It seems like both Rooker and Leach are small reaches for 35/37 so we're saving money. But I'm not sure where we're going to spend it.
  19. Leach? WTF? I guess we are using the savings to draft in rounds 11+.
  20. I wasn't as high on Rooker as others but I'm ok with him. But I really want a few pitchers.
  21. Enlow, Canning, Carlson, Crowe, Danner - I'd be ok with any of them.
