    I remember our first child. Mrs Chief and I were nervous as all get out. Right at the 9 month point, still no baby, and a couple days went by, still nothing. Then one night my wife starts shouting "Can't. Won't! Shouldn't!! MUSTN'T!!!!" I immediately took her out to the car and headed for the hospital. ... The contractions had finally started.

    I went hunting recently with a couple of my friends. Terrible thing...it's really hot here, my one friend is a bit overweight, and with all the trecking around, he got really, really tired, and keeled over with an apparent heart attack. My other friend frantically called 911, and screamed into the phone "Bill's dropped over dead!" The 911 operator tried to calm us down, and told my friend,"well, lets make sure your friend is really dead." The operator hears the line go silent for a few seconds, then hears a shot. Then my friend comes back on the line and says, "OK, what next?"

    So I'm standing in line, waiting to checkout at a local convenience store. There's this duck ahead of me in line. He gets to the checkout, and it's annoying as all heck...he has like 15 items, and just when he's all done and ready to leave, he looks back at the rack of "impulse purchase" items and grabs a tube of ChapStick. "Put it on my bill," he says.

    Buxton drives in the Twins 10th run in the 5th inning and I'm trying to figure out how the Twins can hang on to the lead. Is that bad?

    Not to worry. As long as Sano hits a 3 run HR every PA we'll be fine.

    That would be a really crappy idea, IMO. That means in many years, there's a race for exactly one postseason spot. In some years, maybe none. And why five teams in that scenario?

    Is a HR that adds 2 runs to a 10-1 lead, making it 12-1, as valuable as a HR that turns a 1-0 deficit into a 2-1 lead? Context matters, I think.

    Baseball, and Bud Selig, got some things right. Adding teams to the postseason was necessary for financial reasons, so it was unavoidable. The only question was how. Going to two, and then three divisions in each league was smart. Adding one WC created some problems (cheapended the value of winning the division worst among them), but ensured the team with the second best record in either league couldn't be shut out of the postseason. Adding a second WC solves many of the problems of having only one WC, and in most seasons will keep many team relevant late into the season, helping create interest and sell the sport.

    I'd agree with the first part, but not the second. Jepsen and Cotts are not interchangeable parts. Cotts will serve in more of a LOOGY role. Jepsen helped fill the glaring need for harder throwing one inning guys.

    No one did that? There are calls for Duffey to be in the rotation next year, based on three starts.

    I think the "powers that be" would be OK with that scenario. In fact, I think they'd welcome it.

    C'mon man, don't be so negative. They've successfully protected every single 14-0 lead this year. Every. Single. One.
