  1. The "pretty good start" that lasted 40ish games and "had them on pace to win the division" was an accurate picture of the team, but the 90 loss pace since mid-May is just bad luck, and injuries. We're 6-13 against Cleveland, despite the same number of runs scored, and its just luck. Not managerial skill in close games. Nothing to be done. Sure.
  2. "FanGraphs pegs his total value at nearly $32 million this season" I wonder if there is a GM in baseball who. If offered Buxton's season in March, would have paid $32M for it. I'd wager not.
  3. Well duh. It's called the "free space."
  4. Bundy and Archer led us in starts, but the "pipeline" kept us afloat? Huh?? We traded for a starter and 2 relievers at the deadline because the pipeline worked? Huh??
  5. Not just the training staff, but the entire organizational philosophy on player health. What they're trying clearly isn't working. I want a return to players playing. The best players play. Every day. When injured, they go on the IL, and someone else plays. No more "load management," and conversely, no more carrying players that can't play. Train for 162 games played. Don't know if that will work...it used to...but do SOMEthing. The current philosophy is a disaster.
  6. I disagree with 95 percent of your post, but I HAVE to push back on the idea these two were "over extended." Ober has thrown 43 innings this year. Winder 60. C'mon.
  7. Celestino was never much of a prospect, and isn't one now. He is where he is due to where he came from, a product a terrible trade, Ryan Pressley. He's not where he is due to baseball skills. As a side note, I believe him to be the worst baserunner I've seen in decades of watching MLB.
  8. Didn't every team have the same 2020 challenges? Not buying that as any kind of excuse. My opinion: the "pitching pipeline(tm)" was wildly exaggerated.
  9. Berrios threw 200 innings once in his Twins career. So if by "doing his whole career" you meant 2019, then you have a point.
  10. Every team in baseball could make the same claim. Every team has an entire infield (2 even!) at AA and AAA. There's no trick to playing rookies. The trick is playing rookies who are better than other MLB players.
  11. I don't think the idea the manager should be insulated from criticism stands up to any analysis. First, there's no proof I'm aware of that Falvine are making in game decisions. And in fact, I'd bet a large sum of cash they aren't. Second, that Rocco is implementing an overall strategy with regards to pitching decisions is plausible, even likely. But even within that framework, individual, game level decisions are on Rocco. Is it your contention Falvine are calling down to the dugout during games and telling Rocco who should be on the mound, and when? Does Rocco consult the FO when decisions are made to warm up reliever(s)? I think the opposite. That's Rocco and his pitching coach. And third, there are PLENTY of other reasons someone could question the manager. Playing time, lack of fundamentals, plays put on, not put on. Infield in, or not. Sacrificing. Batting order. You name it. If you like Rocco, fine. You have every right. But stick to why. Jumping on others, for holding the manager responsible for managerial decisions, isn't a valid argument.
  12. I'd say they're rebuilding. They weren't winning with that group, and IMO were unlikely to. In any case, they're not even in last place in their own division, much less MLB. If they're tanking, they suck at it. But as I said, if you want to call it tanking, or if it IS tanking, I don't care much. There's a lot of disincentive already built in not to do that. And there's too many examples of teams NOT tanking, but lacking talent that the draft is supposed to help address.
  13. Without looking it up, I'd venture it's like that most years in the history of MLB
  14. A draft should be the way it always was...worst teams get the best picks. Nobody is tanking in baseball, and I don't care if they are anyway
  15. A draft lotto is an incredibly stupid idea. That said, hope we get lucky. MLB ****** this up, we might as well benefit.
  16. The Front Office's pitching staff decisions, ot lack thereof, doomed this season, exacerbated by Rocco's use of same.
  17. "Starting in 2020, Statcast posted an active spin leaderboard, which can also include an active spin %. They offer a longer explanation at their site, but the nuts-and-bolts description is the spin that contributes to movement, including up or down and side to side." Um, wut? Active spin %? seriously, I have no idea what this even means.
  18. He can't ramp up from pitching into the 5th with 66 pitches to pitching into the 6th with maybe 80 pitches? Then he shouldn't have been activated. The situation DEMANDED he at least start the 6th. Rocco managed to burn his entire trusted relief corps Thursday, double header today, realistically need at least 4 of 5. I don't blame that on anyone but Rocco. Maybe he's just a front office errand boy, and maybe he isn't, but he needs to be a big league manager in that situation and manage.
  19. Pretty accurate headline. Tonight's debacle pretty clearly defined the season. Early lead, feels tenuous, offense hibernates, Rocco decides his starter's arm is about to fall off, somebody pulls up lame, mix in an untimely error, ill advised throw or baserunning gaffe, bullpen implodes in the most egregious manner possible. Game over, put one in the L column that really didn't need to be there. Lather, rinse, repeat. I'm so done with Baldelli. It's not all his fault, but I want someone to blame.
