It'd be nice if we had a GD manager who ensured what they think they want is actually what they get. That makes sure the team understands, practices and VALUES playing defense crispy and effectively.
And the clown show last night isnt an isolated incident.
This complete lack of execution of the principles of playing the game of baseball is a reflection of the front office and more directly, the manager. It shows up in multiple ways day in and day out.
They can't control opponents on the base paths, and they dont really even try. They can't execute simple defensive plays. They never, ever try to advance runners when they're in a close game. Anybody can play anywhere. Catchers play every other day no matter what. 5 innings from the starter, no matter what. Nobody has an actual role in the pen. And in and on.
Yes, they're short of offensive talent.
But they compound that issue with utterly awful management.
A manager or leader, in any walk of life, tends to get the level of performance from his team that he/she allows.
