  1. Eovaldi was supposed to be on a low pitch count. We haven't done a good job of making him throw pitches or we could have probably had him out after 3 or 4.
  2. I hope that the next time the Twins play the Red Sox, all Betts are off!
  3. One of these years I'm going to dig through archives and see if I can figure out on which side of the Revolutionary War my ancestors fought. Based on the essential conservatism of my father and me, I'd guess the British.
  4. True enough. Only reason it seems particularly special is that it was the pure patri-lineal grandfather so we still have the same last name.
  5. Isn't that near Groton? I discovered a couple of years ago that my great-great-great-...-great grandfather founded Groton in the 1640s. There's a plaque dedicated to him in the middle of town.
  6. Hustle, Cron! He should have beaten that one out.
  7. But I bet he won't keep the progression going by getting through the third in 2.5.
  8. Who are these clowns that Perez is getting out? Surely not the same players that batted against Berrios last night.
  9. What's normal? I have been under the impression that the 2019 Twins have been quite lucky with injuries. Seems like one player down any given week, but rarely more than one. That, to me, seems like pretty good year. And the pitching staff has been remarkably injury-free. There must be statistics on the average number of IL/DL days per team in a year. I'd guess that the Twins are below average (although not all IL days are the same depending on who is out).
  10. The weak AL Central opposition has an effect. Look at the full standings on the Twins' site. The record against teams >.500. The Twins and Cleveland have impressive records overall, but both are MUCH worse than New York, Houston, etc. in record against winning teams. Methinks this will haunt us in the post-season.
  11. Well, he did turn on it ... back toward the dugout.
  12. Where was that pitch against Devers. We could still be leading by 5.
  13. When was the last game with two pitchers wearing glasses?
  14. Sounds like a stat that Bert would like!
  15. Or simply gotten tagged out for overrunning the bag.
  16. Why in the world didn't Arraez slide there?
  17. But how many of those "Twings" can get outs against a top lineup?
  18. No surprise with the walk to Wade. Wading is just walking in water, right?
  19. I don't want to belabor this discussion, but I think you have just made the case FOR having automated balls and strikes. It's not an easy job. And anything that helps the umpire get the call correct should be employed. But I can't imagine automating out calls on the bases. There are just too many variables unless you had some kind of sensors on the players, the bases, and the ball/glove (perhaps something like fencing?). I'd do it just for balls and strikes, and just as advice for the human umpire, who could deal with unusual situations that the automated system did not anticipate.
  20. Consistency is not a strength of most humans.
