  2. From LEN 3's article on Castro: "Framing pitches is Castro’s strength. He had 96 more strikes called last season than what was expected, according to StatCorner.com. That was fifth best among all catchers. Suzuki was minus-38 in the same category." So, were looking at an improvement of +134 strikes called? I honestly think, baring a trade, this is the best solution the Twins could find. There just aren't any Johnny Bench's or Pudge Rodriguez's around anymore. If a Dozier trade actually goes down, I'd hope a catching prospect is part of it. Murphy was supposed to be that guy. And could still be. I want some backup for the backstop position.
  3. From what I've seen, MN MiLB needs a lot of legit prospects, period. Another rebuild job....
  4. I'll add to this small chorus: http://www.twincities.com/2016/08/10/back-woes-have-minnesota-twins-trevor-may-wondering-whats-next/ "Among the things they discussed was how May has been able to keep his back in line with extra recovery time between outings. This spring, for instance, May’s back was no issue as he built up his pitch count in an abortive attempt at winning the final spot in the starting rotation. " IMHO: May's back issues have been around for a while. Starting Rotation is the only roll he can play on a consistent basis. And even then, he may have to skip a start.
  5. INCORRECT !!! In 1938, the scouting team of Bud Abbot and Lou Costello have clearly defined this: "Who" is on 1st. "I don't know" is on 3rd. Funny how 78 years ago, the comedy team of Abbot and Costello knew how the Twins would look like in 2016!
  6. Yeah, maybe Levine did talk to Plouffe's agent. Actually, I'd say that's a good possibility, considering new management, more emphasis on advanced metrics, etc. I just quoted directly from an article. Plouffe is handling it very well. Once the high $$$ deals are done, I bet he gets a job pretty quickly.
  7. Leave voice mail asking him to call back as soon as he can. That's the way professionals do it.
  8. Just read about Plouffe's release in the St. Paul paper. Get this: "New Twins general manager Thad Levine left a detailed voice message on Friday “explaining the situation,” said Plouffe, who was working out at the time." Released via Voice Message ?? Not cool...... http://www.twincities.com/2016/11/18/minnesota-twins-place-trevor-plouffe-on-outright-waivers/
  9. Every GM in baseball knew that the Twins had something of a roster pinch between 1st - DH and, to a lessor extent, 3rd. All they had to do is wait for the Twins to release Plouffe. Pretty easy decision. No reason to pay a higher salary or give up any kind of player in return.
  10. Yea, there were some real 'low-lights' this past season
  11. I said it many times in the GameDay chats: Hector Santiago could REALLY use Johan's circle change. I suspect the new regime will not bring him back.
  12. With the new management, there really wasn't much doubt this move would be made. Can't wait to see how the rest of the 40 roster turns out!
  13. The next time THIS happens, there'll be some howling! Ok, maybe not howling. An Ufda or two..... http://mlb.mlb.com/images/0/5/0/187004050/062916_sano_med_ok9rqg9t.gif
  14. How about bringing in Johan Santana? Yeah, yeah, yeah. I know he hasn't pitched since 2012. I'd just like to see him retire as a Twin.
  15. I like it. With a couple mild exceptions. I would not keep Gibson. I can live with him if he were more than a .500 pitcher that can handle more inning that he does. More simply put, I'd want Berrios in the rotation more than Gibson. May: if not a starter, I see no value as a reliever. May has back issues that have [apparently] been an issue throughout his career. Personally: I'm not counting on either Hughes or Perkins. Kintzler did just fine last year. De Leon and Stripling PLUS a mid-high prospect for Dozier. Considering Kinsler won't waive No Trade, price, age, etc. I think Twins may be in an excellent position to bump up the trade of Dozier. Vielma? IDK. Highest MiLB level, AA. Overall, I like the emphasis on defense. Should be a lot of emphasis on that in Spring Training, too.
  16. MLBTR: Twins Have Yet To Make Jason Castro An Offer By Steve Adams | November 16, 2016 at 5:19pm CDT http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/minnesota-twins In a nutshell: Castro has 3 offer from AL Teams, the Twins are not one of them.
  17. Bounce along Gibson. They don't need an innings eater, nor a .500 pitcher. At age 29, these should be his best years. :-( IDK about Plouffe. It's a gamble letting him go and a gamble keeping him. Either way, there's injury and Sano concerns. Bounce back on Berrios, Rosario and Sano. If you can actually say "Bounce Back" on 3 young players. Year 3 of Rosario: I'm expecting a break through :-)
  18. In the NWO of rating catchers, do we really care that much about offense? #1 is defense, especially with Twins pitchers. Give me a nice OBP and an occasional clutch hit to go with solid defense and I'm pretty good with that. Just need to have someone with experience to help Garver/Murphy along.
  19. Seems like catchers are becoming somewhat rare commodity. Twins should take a look.
  20. Agree. Need some players like Torii Hunter to help them along. With Berrios' start and Duffey's fall, a sound defensive catcher would be of great help.
  21. From MLBTR: "The Astros are known to want Castro back, while the Angels, White Sox, Orioles, Rays and Twins are among Houston’s AL rivals that could look to pick up some help behind the plate." 5 teams with more money and better winning percentages than the Twins [ Rays are in the ballpark ]. My bet is the Twins would have to overpay for Castro to get him. New management, new structure, new attitudes: Sure, it could actually happen.
  22. 6 reasons why Castro won't sign with the Twins: Season Team League W L PCT GB 2016 Minnesota Twins American League 59 103 .364 35.5 2015 Minnesota Twins American League 83 79 . 512 12.0 2014 Minnesota Twins American League 70 92 . 432 20.0 2013 Minnesota Twins American League 66 96 . 407 27.0 2012 Minnesota Twins American League 66 96 . 407 22.0 2011 Minnesota Twins American League 63 99 .389 32.0
  23. Personally, I don't agree with Bruno's dismissal. He got Dozier out of a early season funk and into a 40 HR season. He worked with Buxton and got him looking like a MLB hitter towards the end of the season. Also, late in the year, he got Sano to start using a more level swing. His upper-cut swing became so profound, umpires stopped calling STRIKE and would yell FORE instead
  24. I believe both will be focused on roster changes right now. And I expect those changes will be minimal until Falvey get's this part of the organization organized. Falvey has already stated that there will be expanding the scouting, metrics and other parts of the organization, along with changes on how things are taught in the MiLB. The easy translation of that is: "We need time to catch up with the rest of the league in those departments." From that same article, they are asking around the league what other's think of Twins players. Throw in their own 'outsider' evals from their Cleveland and Texas days, that's a pretty great start. I also think that with the influx over the past 2 years of a not so insignificant number of MiLB'ers is a reason to pause before jumping into anything resembling a full rebuild.
  25. Tom: Your blueprint probably crossed the posting of this article from the StarTribune: http://www.startribune.com/arizona-trip-for-gm-meetings-was-a-twins-baptism-for-new-bosses/400778211/ You're right on the 'things probably won't change much' front. They have done their thing in AZ between spa visits. Sounds to me like the strategy is much like yours: Stand pat while we figure things out. From the article: "their next objective once they return to Target Field won't be strengthening the Twins' 40-man roster but the organizational chart. Falvey and Levine have been given the go-ahead by owner Jim Pohlad to greatly expand the team's management, adding expertise in a number of areas it has lacked." "We're going to be active on the major league front. We have a good grasp on some possibilities for us to explore," Levine said. "But there is no mandate that we do anything dramatic right away." I'm still hoping for some trade movement....
