  1. Lightweights....good thing it's a double-digit game. This game was just what the doctor ordered after that trip to NY. Really nice game out of Duffey, even with getting knocked around in the 8th. Everyone hit the ball tonite and that's always a welcome sign. And Sano has 10 dingers in 40 games...I was right, the short porch in left was ripe for one of his fly balls. See if he can hit a couple more there this weekend.
  2. I spent my college days in Baltimore at the height of the Orioles playoff runs and when you couldn't get a ticket to Camden Yards without a 30-day notice. I watched numerous Twins losses in that stadium...in fact, I don't think I ever went to a win there (and given they were 6-8 in that span of time, I had really bad luck). I then came to dub Camden Yards the Twins House of Horrors. But they are 8-9 since 2010 there so the name has lost its luster. Hopefully it won't come back to the spotlight this weekend. That short porch in left is just BEGGING to catch a few Sano blasts.
  3. I grew up in PA and my brother is a Yankees fan...then when I first went to work out of college, I lived in New England where it was a mix of both annoying fanbases of Yankees and Red Sox. I'm in Florida now and they don't care about baseball down here so I don't hear about how great the Yankees are blah blah blah as much anymore.
  4. Why I hate the Yankees -- I hate favorites. I've always rooted for the underdog. When the Yankees started winning in the late 90s, EVERYONE jumped on their bandwagon, especially the media. At that time, cable hadn't quite exploded yet so every national game was the Yankees this and Yankees that. National outlets like ESPN almost refused to acknowledge the existence of teams, especially that of the Twins. So when the Twins got good again and had to face off with the big bad Yankees, it was like the little schoolyard kid finally trying to get his lunch money back. And the way those games were lost just added fuel to the frustration of being the one that always gets kicked around. Blowing late leads left and right by some of the dumbest ways possible, etc. Not gonna rehash all of those. But it also always felt like there was something else there, some intangible, that kept the Twins at an arm's length from the Yanks. To me, there's nothing to like about that franchise and there likely never will be. As I said after the A-Fraud 3-HR game that I had the 'pleasure' to attend, baseball was better last year when the Yankees sucked and A-Fraud was suspended.
  5. Because of what they've done to the Twins in the playoffs in the last decade. Were you not around for those games, often lost in some ridiculously weird heartbreaking fashion. And of course, that stupid rookie hits ANOTHER home run...and a multi-run variety. God, our pitching sucks.
  6. 5 perfect innings for Ravioli. Brace yourselves kids, we have another David Wells pending (just without the beer/hot dog stained uniform).
  7. OFFFFFFFFFF COURSE we give up a guy's first ML homer.
  8. Annnnnd...Ravioli is perfect thru 4. Hey, gotta start the jinx now before this gets out of control.
  9. Just another thing in the long list of hates about the stupid Yankees -- that dumb whistling sound after every opponent strikeout. I have a bad feeling we'll be hearing a lot more of it today.
  10. WOOHOO...out of the 1st without allowing any runs or an A-Bomb from A-Fraud. Now if we can just get 8 more innings of that.
  11. What a terrific way to waste a day off. At least I can watch it on the big screen rather than the computer.
  12. Why our pitchers struggle with the stupid Yankees -- there is no power pitchers to zip anything by them. They have to get them out by nibbling or off-speed stuff that might fool them. The Yankees have been incredibly disciplined at the plate for YEARS and work the count over and over and over again. Gibson had the look of the pitcher who was on the defensive all nite -- trying to find the corners and trying to get the hitters to bite. The top 6 in that order won't go for that. Fien got the middle of the order in the 8th and he went after it and got 1-2-3. Jepsen had the bottom of the order and went after them and got 1-2-3. Perkins didn't have the oomph behind his fastball or the location to get it by anybody and he got whipped.
  13. As predictable as usual against those f'ing Yankees. It was just a question as to who was going to get the walkoff. Terrible at-bats against Betances and Miller (except for Sano) in the last 3 innings. Very poor management of the bullpen by Molitor. Unless he pitched too much over the weekend, then Jepsen should have been out there in the 10th. It's not like he had thrown many pitches in the 9th. Perkins forgot his Closer Disease meds and he went back to being terrible again. But another typical loss at Yankee Stadium to that P-O-S team. It's only surprising that it didn't end with a home run.
  14. Please get Gibson out of this game. Yankees don't swing at anything unless it's over the plate and he doesn't have the power to blow it by them. Keep nibbling and nibbling, they won't bite and then he's looking at constant 3-1 counts.
  15. Instant replay was enacted for idiots like Angel Hernandez. Why he is continued to be allowed the privilege to umpire Major League Baseball is beyond me.
  16. Way to get out of your own mess, Carly Rae. Now let's hope that Perkins has taken his medication for that closer disease he's had the last couple of weeks.
  17. Insurance would be great but every time we get a guy on 3rd, it causes nothing but outs.
  18. Perkins still hasn't shaken his closer disease that he picked up at the All-Star game. Good thing he had a 4-run cushion coming in.
  19. Helloooooooo insurance runs!!! Nice to have ya back on the HR trail, Dozier.
  20. 94 pitches, 5 walks, seems to be walking a tightrope. I don't mind it. Until I see Fien out there on the mound. <GULP>
  21. I'm not sure what we're doing with May in this outing but I'm not a fan of it. Not that it's gonna matter since we can't hit Kluber.
  22. Everyone did great on that Rosario play except the clown making the call. I've been umpiring HS games for 11 years and I'm not sure how you can have that great position and still kick the call. Thank goodness for replay in that situation.
  23. Normally I'd agree with you. But this is one instance where it's different. From Grammarist.com: But the words have other, less commonly used senses that can make them tricky. Effect does function as a verb when it bears the sense to bring about. For instance, it is the correct word in phrases such as effect change and effect solutions where these phrases mean to bring about change and to bring about solutions. It’s possible to imagine where the phrase affect change might make sense, but it would mean to have an effect on change rather than to bring about change. Grammar Police will let you off with a warning.
  24. 'Liked' this post simply for the proper spelling of 'effect' in both instances. #grammerpolice
  25. **TERRIBLE** loss. Santana yakking a nice 4-run cushion, a stupid wavearound of a runner to get thrown out at the plate and then a poor decision to bring in one of the worst relievers on the roster. This really sours the buzz of the two previous games.
