  1. Maybe Molitor secretly promoted May to the Closer role 2 weeks ago and we just haven't seen it yet since there hasn't been a save opportunity.... Seriously though, May, Jepsen, I find it really hard to care either way much either way... Obviously May is the best relief pitcher, but I'd still rather see him get a chance in the rotation during this dumpster fire of a season
  2. I appreciate your attempt to be positive amidst all the negativity surrounding this team, but its really hard to take your baseball opinions seriously when you write this kind of stuff.
  3. Infield in in the top of the 3rd with Machado up?
  4. Molitor will never do this, but let's get crazy... 1) Mauer 2) Sano 3) Arcia 4) Park 5)Nunez 6) Plouffe 7) Dozier 8) Santana 9) Suzuki
  5. Career numbers vs RHP Brian Dozier: .227/.303/.381 Trevor Plouffe: .235/.292/.403 Oswaldo Arcia: .250/.324/.485 ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
  6. 1) I'm not going to give him credit for this, but it worked out fine. 2) I don't know about this. I remember being pretty confused by the extension at the time. The Twins were about to lose 90 games for the 4th year in a row, Perkins was like 31, and had 2 full years left on his contract. 3) I don't fault anyone for Mauer's extension, injuries happen. But wasn't it Bill Smith that signed it?
  7. Yeah, we're probably splitting hairs a little by putting a number on it, I agree he's a decent short term insurance policy for a good team... but I think its fairly telling no team had interest in his ~$3.5million for the rest of the year. The Dodgers who have some SP issues took on Fien just to send him to AAA as likely a worst case scenario bullpen option... and yet didn't want Milone
  8. Right, since he's been a Twin the pitching staff has had an ERA dead last in the league... but can you imagine where it would be without him handling the staff?
  9. I think you'll get plenty of disagreement here. If he was a 4-5 starter on a good team, how did he go unclaimed by 29 teams? Especially with teams like LAA being decimated by injuries and ineffectiveness in the rotation
  10. No, he won't get to 485. Yes, an in-season extension is very possible (yikes)... I mean let's hope its only 1 year and a small amount of money?
  11. Don't get too excited, because I wouldn't hesitate to trade Berrios for a top 5 catcher in the league type young player with multiple years of control... I just don't know enough about Swihart to say he's that guy
  12. I used Swihart and Escobar's career numbers according to Baseball reference, what was wrong about those numbers? I used OBP because as you said, their slg% is the same, and OPS is a pretty poor stat anyways since most agree OBP >>> SLG% I don't know enough about Swihart, other than prospect rankings and looking at the numbers. I don't think I ever once said I would give up Berrios for him... but it certainly would take a heck of a lot more than some of the other names thrown around on here (Duffey, Gibson, Santana, etc). I would certainly give up Jay or Gonsalves.. thought I think the Red Sox would decline quickly. Has the prospect luster worn off or something, I know they have Vazquez, but they have plenty of prospects and money He was Keith Law's 10th ranked prospect going into last season. I don't see them giving up something of value for a scrap heap Twins pitcher.
  13. The 10th ranked C by WAR (Miguel Montero) was also a 2 win improvement over Suzuki. May not seem like much, but 2 wins are pretty expensive.
  14. Well 15 catchers played in more than 2/3 of the games last year, so I'm not sure if they traded for a good Catcher that guy would be sitting every 3rd game. Also, why Escobar, why lucky? Swihart is young, but has played 91 games with a .275/.324/.386 line, a good amount higher than Escobars career .301 obp. Also, if you're replacing a .550 ops player in the lineup with a .720 one, I would say thats pretty damn valuable, no? They wouldn't be trading for a Swihart type to DH
  15. No, definitely not top 20. When I said 3rd round I was probably using a bit of hyperbole, I'd say its more likely he goes sometime in the 2nd round. MLB.com has him the 40th ranked prospect, Keith Law did not have him in his top 50 (and said he was nowhere close). Who knows where the Twins have him, but I think its safe to say he's not in their top 15.
  16. I was big time pounding the table for Rasmus after the 2014 season, of course they preferred familiarity to someone who could play CF, was younger, had upside, etc. Austin Jackson got 1 year $5million, he hasn't hit much, but we all saw the defense over the weekend. If you had traded Plouffe, Jackson is a pretty damn nice RFer and backup plan at CF.
  17. The Manager doesn't seem to understand platoons any better than the previous manager either, so I will agree if Hicks was here he probably wouldn't be used the way he could be valuable. IE: Since Mid-April when Arcia started receiving steady playing time, 4 of the 6 games he hasn't started has been vs Righties. Kepler's 1 start in a week coming vs Rodon, etc.
  18. Right - or if you break it out by year... he had a .334/.424/.520 line in 125 games in low A/High A in 2013 (Pre-concussion I'll point out, since we all seem to agree that messed up Mauer for awhile)
  19. We're splitting hairs at this point... To go back to McCutchen, his career OPS in the bigs is .880... I would say with 5 All Star games and an MVP in 7 season firmly counts him as a superstar. It depends who you are comparing him too. He's a CFer with elite defense and speed, if you want to look at solely OPS, he has a much lower bar then Corner position players. If he was a 1B I would say .880 doesn't make him a "superstar"
  20. That's fair. I'd prefer him as a plan B than Danny Santana or Darin Mastroiani
  21. I went to one Saints game last summer to check out the new Field, who was playing RF for the opposing team? Jason Repko. That being said, Hicks is a good defender and can hit LH pitching pretty well. I think at worst he has a floor of very useful 4th OFer who starts a 2/3 times a week. Which is pretty useful, just maybe not what people here had hoped for
  22. I should have said "chance at stardom is over", that is what I meant
  23. That wasn't intended to be sarcastic or snarky, it's May 9 2016, you don't think it's a tad preposterous to say someone considered by most to be a high end prospect who has something like an .875 ops in AAA right now won't be ready to hit Major league pitching this year OR next year?
  24. Well it's May 9th and he's had all of 49 at bats in 2016, but yeah it's probably a good idea to let him tear up AAA for 2 full seasons because of those 49 at bats
  25. Ok. That's an odd assumption to make, but sure
