  1. Well, he's a FA come October either way. So they certainly could've traded him and signed him in the offseason I'm hopeful the new regime isn't as high on him as the old regime.
  2. Correct, I'm guessing Archer's value is potentially as high or higher than Sale's with that contract. I think realistically only a small handful of teams could get in the stakes
  3. Norris has multiple years of control, the Padres had no reason to move him if they didn't find an offer to their liking. Suzuki leaves for nothing in 2 months.
  4. Well currently their farm system is likely outside the top 10 or 15, since all of these guys graduated from prospect status. I'm guessing you aren't giving up Berrios, since that would kind of be counter-intuitive. Giving up Kepler, Buxton or Sano probably doesn't do much either.. isn't the only real chance of competing in the next year or two these guys all taking a leap? I guess a package headlined by Buxton, Jay, etc. may get you in the mix, but I'm not sure how much the shine has worn off Buxton (even though I still firmly think he will be a star) Is that a better package than the Red Sox could easily offer, centered around Moncada, Kopech, etc? Probably not, and those are just 2 of the Red Sox top 5 prospects, they could trump anything by offering a Betts
  5. I think (and very well could be wrong) that they value Suzuki much more than any other team in the league. I feel like they should've been able to get something for him, but probably aimed too high. I agree Kintzler probably doesn't have much value. Taking a bullpen spot of Chargois is detrimental, I would've flipped him for practically anything
  6. Nunez Trade: B+. Thought this was the best deal. I'm not going to go overboard and give him an A since there are questions about whether Mejia is a starter or reliever long term, but I thought it was a solid return. Abad Trade: B. Meh, had to deal him, Light seems to have a chance of being a good bullpen arm. Not sure that was a need they filled or anything, but ok return. Nolasco Trade: C+. I think people are way overrating Santiago. I still think Meyer can be a dominate bullpen arm. Glad to see Nolasco go Suzuki + Kintzler Still being here: F Santana still being here: N/A. Won't penalize him for this, as I'd probably prefer the new GM trade him. But would be interested to find out what kind of offers they fielded. Overall: C+. Meh.
  7. I'm not sure the Twins could realistically even be in the Archer sweepstakes. If he's available this winter, teams like the Red Sox, Yankees, Rangers who are all in need of pitching have soo much more to offer. I'm trying to find someone in that next tier. Obviously with Gray you would need to find out what in the hell happened this year.
  8. What about Sonny Gray? I'm guessing it would take quite a bit less to acquire him than Archer. I wouldn't include Buxton, Sano or Kepler for either of them. But could you build a deal around Polanco and Stewart or Gonsalves? I'm firmly in the camp of trade Dozier and let Polanco play 2B... but if Polanco can be used to get a front end pitcher I would be all for it
  9. Someone was having this discussion on Twitter just a couple of days ago, Mike Berardino I believe, and said the team confirmed it is a vesting option only, neither player or team have a say in it.
  10. At the absolute most, Russell Martin money. 5 years, $82 million. He has less of a track record than Martin, so I would try something like 4 for $60
  11. It's not an option that they have a choice on. The option will not vest, he is a free agent regardless
  12. I'm not disagreeing that there are only a few elite catching options, and then there is everyone else. BUT, if your "Posey" list is 4 or 5 deep, I'm pretty sure Ramos is on that list and is going to be a free agent. Doesn't look like they have a home grown option on the horizon, no pitchers worth spending $15 milion/year + on this offseason.... Seems like a prime opportunity to shore up the position for 5 years.
  13. I think both are a concern, I have faith the development in the minors, promotion schedules, etc. will change when the new GM is hired. I don't have faith that Molitor is going to change his ways. I'm not sure you see many 22 year olds that are finished products, outside of the few outliers we've had recently with Trout, Machado, Harper, etc.
  14. The post called him the worst outfielder in the AL behind Hicks, which is wrong. Buxton leads Rosario in bWAR 0.8 to 0.2 What's concerning is the manager and hitting coach working with Sano and Buxton seem to have lifetime jobs. I'm not concerned about either long term, but certainly not have Molitor/Bruno as the ones in charge during their formative early years in the bigs.
  15. Compete to win the World Series? No. Win 80-85 games, and maybe get a bit lucky? Sure. Signing Ramos and trading for a pitcher obviously wouldn't be the only moves I would make. I'd deal Santana and Dozier, would lean not tendering Santiago, and bringing in an additional starter, and left fielder or DH. I'm getting younger, payroll isn't an issue, don't think I've depleted the farm and I think the team would be pretty decent Buxton (CF) Polanco (2B) Kepler (RF) Sano (3B) Ramos © DH Mauer (1B) LF Escobar (SS) Berrios Trade May Gibson Mejia, Duffey, Trade
  16. Defense and Baserunning matter. Buxton is not the worst outfielder on his own team, let alone in the American League. He is over a full win above replacement better than Danny Santana, and also ahead of Eddie Rosario
  17. Using Fielding % as your default method to judge defense probably isn't the best. We know Sano isn't a great defensive 3B, still want to see him there through the end of the year since he's been playing it for all of a month or so this year,
  18. In my "go for it" scenario, I'm probably trading Dozier and Santana... So I'm not depleting the farm system by trading for a pitcher. Still a youth movement, but at the same time I think competitive
  19. If the new GM thinks they can compete next year, they should offer Ramos something in the Russell Martin range (5/$82). Also, trade for a starter that can pair with Berrios at the top of the rotation.
  20. Are you worried about his 3rd base defense affecting the pennant run right now or something? Really basing it on Molitor, the one who buried Kepler and Polanco while the team tanked for 2 months? The one that writes Danny Santana's name in the lineup nearly every day?
  21. "Inability to locate the strike zone" might be a little more interesting of theory had they not just traded for a pitcher with a 4.3 BB/9 rate...
  22. I think we both know that's unlikely... but interesting question. I'm not sure that I would, but it's not my money.
  23. Santiago's last outing included 119 pitches with 6 walks in 5 innings. Hopefully he at least works a little quicker than Pelfrey
  24. Correct, only .267
  25. Max Kepler 230 PA .256/.332/.547 2.3 WAR Trevor Plouffe 231 PA .252/.283/.399 -0.2 WAR I remember lots of people scoffing when I said over the Winter I thought the team and lineup would be better with Sano at 3B and Kepler in RF than Plouffe at 3B and Sano in RF.
