  1. Well the argument being made was Suzuki should not be traded because his mentorship was more valuable than what they likely could get for him. I'm not sure how important knowing this Twins pitching staff could possibly be, they have an ERA of almost 5. How many pitchers on the current staff are a part of the next winning team here? Berrios (struggling), Gibson? (mostly struggling), Rogers, May, Pressley?, anddddd ?
  2. Kurt Suzuki has a contract that expires in 6 weeks.
  3. Maybe that $1.5 million the Pohlad's save by unloading Suzuki for org filler allows them to pay candidate #1 on the GM list? Seems at least as plausible as any perceived value Suzuki provides to a potential September call-up in a lost season. We'll have to agree to disagree on Suzuki being valuable as a mentor. We've heard it for 3 years he has been here, and year after year the pitching staff is the worst in baseball, and there hasn't exactly been a young catcher come up and been helped by him
  4. Ongoing for how long? There is about 6 weeks left in the season, and Garver is in AAA. If Garver had a question pop up could he ask someone else, like his Hall of Fame manager, or does it have to be Suzuki? Ok on Lucroy, just was clarifying since you 1st said "the player has to be younger and less experienced"
  5. I don't think anyone blamed Suzuki for Murphy's struggles, not even close. I asked about the mythical mentor-ship role Suzuki is providing, why it was no help to Murphy if it exists and is so valuable
  6. So the Twins should get better players than Murphy? I don't think they can do that as we sit here August 18th. So again, who or what is he mentoring? You claimed there was tangible value in his mentor-ship. Lucroy is younger and less experienced than Suzuki, fwiw.
  7. I'm sorry I don't understand the parallels between the corporate world and a catcher being on the roster or not being on the roster in September. Sure, veteran players can have an impact along the way on younger players. I believe that. If you really believe Kurt Suzuki in the month of September is going to have some tangible impact on the career of John Ryan Murphy... well, we aren't going to see eye to eye on that. Again, I would ask you where this was Feb-May Doesn't that kind of remind you how we've been sold by the front office this bill of goods that Suzuki was given an extension to continue to mentor the pitching staff? The same pitching staff that has been the worst in baseball basically his entire MN Twins career?
  8. I'm confused, so if a player is good, it's mentoring, but if he stinks, he can't be mentored? Should they have traded for Lucroy and had Suzuki mentor him? I bet that mentor-ship would've been successful.
  9. The Twins were in playoff contention last year, had poor 4/5 starters, and didn't take a peek at Berrios, who was in AAA. So I would say there's basically a 0% chance they would. I wouldn't either for what its worth, but would have with Berrios last year
  10. Where was Suzuki's mentoring value to Murphy in February through May? Is it only an end of the year thing or how does this perceived mentoring value work? How many points of WAR is it worth in Garver/Murphy's future career?
  11. He'll have 3 more starts in AA, if he pitches 7 innings per start, he'll end the season at 146 innings, a 10% increase over last season
  12. I would trade him for Org filler or cash, because he holds no other value to the Twins in their current situation, and that is his value. They are better off giving Murphy/ Centeno/ Garver, etc. a look before 2017. The point? The point is to recoup literally anything before he leaves for absolutely nothing. What kind of signal does it send to the team and fans? I don't even know how to answer this it is so silly. That free agents to be can be traded in a lost season?
  13. Pitch more than 59 innings above A ball?
  14. You are concerned about the perception of trading a veteran FA to be that other teams apparently have no interest in even acquiring. Nothing about that makes sense.
  15. Thank God the Twins are upholding their league-wide perception. Wouldn't want people thinking they are willing to rebuild by trading FA's to be during 90 loss season #5 in 6 years
  16. Ok that would make more sense. I took your 1st post as meaning Albers is here to stay (presumably for the 15 day stint Boshers spends on the DL) since someone had a flight cancelled.
  17. Thanks for the info but I'm not sure I follow. If they decided Boshers needed to go on the DL - that decision must've been made in the last hour, since he just pitched. How did a cancelled flight change any of those plans? I mean Albers still could've been the extra man tonight, and whoever this mystery player is could've caught a flight tomorrow? Am I misunderstanding?
  18. Holy cow, you lost me at the last line. You don't think he's that far off from being a Bryce Harper type? Is there perhaps a different Bryce Harper I'm not aware of? One that didn't win the MVP while hitting .330/.460/.649 with 42 home runs at age 22
  19. Crawford was also in his 5th season in the Majors by the time he was Rosario's current age.
  20. Brock said the only clear failure was Buxton, who its way to early to give up on (agreed). I wasn't trying to prove anything either, I was adding a couple of names that he probably glossed over, mainly 2 that aren't part of the organization anymore so he may not have considered. I think he understood why I added them
  21. Besides letting these guys (hitters) spend even a couple more months at AA + AAA before rushing them to the Majors, I'm certainly not qualified to answer that, and I don't think anyone on here is (I'm not even sure Jack would say he has an answer on how to fix the development issue). But that's part of the reason people like me are saying, blow this thing up, hire from outside the organization for GM/President, and let that person fix it. Besides that, I'm not offering up any suggestions because it's beyond my pay grade. I trust someone from a different organization to fix this more than someone who has worked in this front office for years of failure. Is that fair?
  22. I think you kind of missed the point. But ok Trevor May is the success you could come up with? He was a top 100 prospect at one point and is currently a mildly successful bullpen guy, when many had hopes of him being a solid #3 starter. Using relivers to prove your point is also pretty odd, seeing as the Twins expected a number of those guys to help this season, and most are still floundering in AA. Aaron Hicks was developed well? Why are we looking at the draft, we were talking about development.
  23. I don't know, I guess I just see snap judgement as part of what a message board is. Sure, some of the criticisms (like the medical staff you used as an example) can get nauseating and beaten to death. Criticizing player development; at a time when the top prospect in baseball just got demoted to the minors, again, numerous minor league bullpen options were supposed to be the cure this season, rather than free agency, haven't even made the Majors, the Twins own manager has made clear player development is nowhere near the top of the list of his responsibilities, etc... I mean it seems warranted at this point....
  24. Well on this board, and nationally. what we have to go off of is what we see. It's really hard to argue there has been major, positive changes going on, when what we see is; losses piling up, the GM going from TR, to his admin assistant, back to TR. The coaching staff going from Gardy to a no experienced, yet part of Gardy's staff, Paul Molitor, etc. The minor league director just coming from an internal promotion, etc. I mean if we can't criticize any of this because we don't have the in depth knowledge needed to form an opinion, there's probably not a point of a message board like this...
  25. To be fair, it's more like 24.5% in the Majors... If he doesn't learn to stop swinging at pitches way outside the zone, I have to imagine that number will climb, as pitchers simply won't throw him strikes.
