  1. Ok yeah, that would make a lot more sense. My bad
  2. We really seem to be struggling to get on the same page. Again, I never talked about next year. Trading Suzuki has NO effect on next year. He is a free agent FYI, Garver is in AAA right now
  3. "People complained Berrios was demoted. But are now complaining Duffey hasn't been". Again, that is all I replied too... You are trying to argue my point, but you are further making it for me by pointing out the difference between Duffey and Berrios. There are not similarities to people complaining for Berrios and against Duffey
  4. So the numbers do back it up, though I'm not sure if that would follow him into a 1 inning role, where he presumably would throw harder, have a different approach, etc.
  5. You can't pitch from the windup with runners on base. Ie: he's saying you can't bring Duffey into the game with runners on 1st and 2nd because he's bad from the stretch ( I have no idea if numbers back up his hypothesis)
  6. Ok. That doesn't make the comparison I replied to any better.
  7. Berrios started 4 games before he was sent down for 2 months. Duffey has been hit like a pinata for 18 starts not. 7.24 era since May 24. I'm not sure how you found that to be comparable situations
  8. Schwarber is also quite a bit smaller, played OF in the minors, and just tore his knee in an outfield collision. Maybe not the best example to use
  9. Meh, that lineup seems to be trying awfully hard to fit players together that don't fit together. If Park figures it out, and Vargas becomes something useful, great.. I don't see it happening on the same team in any situation.
  10. The fact that this is the manager they've chosen to lead them through a rebuild is scary
  11. I'm not a Vargas fan, I think he's a AAAA player. That being said. It's absurd the way playing time is being split up right now. Vargas in AAA, Sano on the bench, and Plouffe+DSan in the lineup, ridiculous What is the harm in playing Vargas everyday through end of year? Maybe he hits and has a little trade value this offseason
  12. Trading Suzuki has no effect on the 2017 catcher position. He is a free agent. That is what I was replying to. The catching position becomes a dumpster fire? The minor league options should instantly be better defensively than Suzuki, and frankly who cares if the offense is slightly worse. Again, they are the worst team in the AL
  13. Well that depends on Dozier, who I would try to trade if his value is as high as some on here think it may be. If he's traded, I play Polanco at 2B and Escobar/ stop gap SS. But to answer your question, yeah I'm fine with that left side of IF if Dozier isn't dealt. Probably would be one of better left sides offensively in AL, and when I really want to win in 2018 I need to know what I have in those two, position wise. Nothing wrong with signing a utility IF, or playing Escobar 60 games (with Sano moving to DH those nights)
  14. Ok. I think this quote is what confused me "I'd do that if I'm getting back a catcher that is a defensive upgrade and will give me 20-25 home runs.". You made it seem as if you were only trading Dozier for this, not a pitcher
  15. Ramos is a free agent. The Giants aren't trading Posey. So are you concluding they can't possibly trade Dozier since neither of those 2 will be options?
  16. The hypothetical of Sano getting hurt, and then being screwed at 3B without Plouffe around is just silly. They are in the exact same situation if Dozier were to get hurt, they would have to shuffle the deck chairs around (polanco to 2B, escobar to SS, etc) in that case as well. If Sano gets hurt and can't play 3rd, they are in trouble. With or without Trevor Plouffe on the roster. Without Plouffe on the roster, they have say an extra $8 million to spend on a catcher, utility player, or pitcher
  17. I don't think anyone suggested moving Polanco to 3B if he can play a good SS. Willinghammer asked for multiple options in case Plouffe left, and 4 different things went wrong. Polanco would be one of those options. Sano would be my starting 3rd baseman, Polanco would be my starting SS or 2nd baseman, depending on what they do with Dozier. Plouffe would not be in the equation
  18. Well since the sample size is so small, I won't go into Polanco's numbers.... but no I don't think it is unrealistic in the least to expect him to be able to surpass a .246/.307/.417 (Plouffe carer) line, in fact I would say its very likely. I think so little of Plouffe's defense at 3rd (it was pretty good in 2013, that was a long time ago), I don't even necessarily think Plouffe in 2017 at 3rd is something Sano in 2017 can't match, let alone Polanco.
  19. If Plouffe is non-tendered and IF he bounces back, good for him. I don't see any lost value by non tendering, because he will hold no value this offseason (no one is trading for him) Excellent pick-up for any club? I'm guessing he would have trouble finding a contract ( I think most teams would see him as a platoon candidate, 1B, 3B, DH type)... David Freese had to wait until mid March to sign a 1 year, $3 million deal, and he had a much better track record entering 2016 than Plouffe will have entering 2017. Best 3rd baseman in house? I would say Sano's offense makes him a much better option than Plouffe, even if he struggles at 3rd. I would also say Polanco would likely be an upgrade offensively and defensively. You are arguing tons of hypothetical s that center around a below average 3rd baseman having a career season, and literally no other internal option be even capable of finding 3rd base, let alone playing it.
  20. I guess that doesn't answer my question exactly, even if 2016 was an outlier (offensively, I tend to agree, defensively.. range goes with age, his is poor). What are you accomplishing by demanding him back ("foolish to pencil anyone else in")? Are you trying to win now, or down the road? Even if we ignore 2016, his 2015 OBP + SLG%'s are below league avg for 3rd baseman. His career OBP has never reached the 2016 league avg for 3B (.333), and his slg% has reached the 2016 league avg once, in 2012 (.448 avg, Plouffe at .455 4 years ago). You think it's wise to potentially pay up to $10 million for a below avg offensive 3rd baseman, who also isn't good defensively there? The backup plan to Sano at 3rd? Polanco, free agent, trade, plenty of options that are more enticing than Trevor Plouffe (especially Trevor Plouffe at anywhere approaching $10/million)
  21. Boshers should absolutely be gone. Santana should be gone as well. Planning on going into 2017 with him on the roster (no options) seems like setting the bar extremely low. If there's doubts to Buxton's readiness come April, they can do a lot better than Santana.
  22. In what way is it foolish, exactly? Are you planning on competing, or rebuilding? If you plan to compete, setting in stone a 31 year old with a career .246/.307/.417 line (coming off a .255/.290/.393 season) and declining 3rd base skills seems like an odd route to take. If you plan to rebuild, paying that player $5-10 million to play 3rd seems even more odd
  23. I think that assumption is likely correct (especially since he cleared waivers), but don't discount the possibility the Twins asking price has been way too high
  24. Who cares if it becomes worse in the near future (last 6 weeks of season I assume you mean), the Twins are 49-72. I wouldn't cut him because they should be able to at minimum get salary relief (around the same time they'll be a hiring a new GM), but wouldn't care one way or the other if they did
  25. They can bring back Suzuki next year at a lower salary, whether he is traded now, or not. I don't understand the learning curve comment. A new catcher wouldn't know how to catch these crappy pitchers?
