  1. and next time we land a man on the moon there'll still be players who tighten their batting gloves after every pitch.
  2. we can land a man on the moon but nike can't design batting gloves that hold tight for an entire at-bat?
  3. 1) it was much easier to maintain the look of a hero in the days before camera phones and social media. 2) it’s always wise to separate the art from the artist. 3) for those who insist on finding heroes, women seem like a much better bet.
  4. apply for a grant. or find a sugar daddy like target or best buy to trickle down some serious money — enough to pay $10 or $20 for worthwhile content, and pay yourselves too. great site.
  5. thank you for saving us from ourselves.
  6. gardy, vavvy, dougie. nicky and torii got next?
  7. this postseason brings to mind the 3-3-3 rotation idea: nine pitchers throw three innings every third game, which works out to 162 innings per season. your best pitcher or two might throw occasional four-inning stints. a handful of additional relievers bridge bad outings and work extra-inning games. i hazily recall la russa briefly trying it in oakland. from bill james online in 2009: https://www.billjamesonline.com/article1004/
  8. do starting pitchers even matter?
  9. now all this series needs to be considered among the best ever is a 1-0 extra-inning game 7.
  10. a well-spent five hours and 17 minutes after all. fun link: http://www.espn.com/sportsnation/story/_/id/21221336/the-ups-downs-world-series-game-5-captured-via-social-media
  11. crazy as hell.
  12. good teams, good game, good series. but three-plus hours and still in the sixth inning? lordy.
  13. twins don’t need no stinkin’ ace.
  14. dodgers probably not shedding too many tears over having to settle for logan forsythe. at least so far ...
  15. so maybe franklin perez is who the twins should go after?
  16. someone did. an excerpt from pulitzer prize-winning author Michael D’Antonio's book, the truth about trump: “I was always the best athlete. Something that nobody knew about me. …I was the best baseball player in New York when I was young. … But I also knew that it was very limited, because in those days you couldn’t even make a lot of money playing baseball. … Everybody wanted me to be a baseball player. But I was good in other sports too. I was good in wrestling, I was very good at football. I was always the best at sports.”
  17. where do top teams like the cubs find effective relievers like this guy duensing? how come the twins can’t come up with bullpen guys like that?
  18. i just hope all the red sox players are ok with getting a “y” attached to the end of their names.
  19. I'm as happy as anyone regarding joe's renaissance and would like to see him win the popularity contest for fielding. i also enjoyed the clips of his 2017 highlights -- he looks smooth, agile and reasonably fast on his feet for a 34-year-old concussion-riddled former catcher. but i would also imagine that, over the course of a 162-game season, most major-league first baseman could put together a similar reel.
  20. why not just rotate all nine players around the diamond every game? campaneris/tovar x 9.
  21. or maybe dock ellis had the right approach: lsd for players and fans alike.
  22. and really, really hilarious if they went on to win a few world series ...
  23. i'd say more eric davis than wilson or mcgee. but all three had young debuts and long careers.
