  1. Ah, gravy is a euphemism for a clever ploy to avoid jinxing the comeback! (If i had to, i was gonna guess water. Most boats i know go on water.) But, as it is a spoon caddy, i can't get the image out of my head... "Look at the lay of the table. I would advise the soup spoon, aiming for the mashed potatoes. But be careful of the butter, you don't want to be caught in there!" "Hang it all, I'm going to cut across the rough with the grapefruit spoon!"
  2. You said it. That was pretty slick. I'd be sad though, if he missed day games...
  3. Perhaps Mauer looks a little smarter for taking the out which didn't involve a throw? Just tryin' to understand a strange world...
  4. Yeah, i was just startin' to wonder how many. He's getting the corner calls, to the chagrin of some of the jays' batters.
  5. 1-0! (Now that's what i call a bellow!)
  6. Who, on our staff, throws a sidesplitter?
  7. That had not occurred to me...
  8. I don't think he's walked anyone yet. Has he allowed a run?
  9. I was once mistaken (mistook?) for a moose... Not as glamorous as it sounds, but i've gotten some mileage out of the story by now.
  10. Yup. To recall the movie quote stuff from 2 threads ago... (and the only line i remember from the movie...) "Coffee is for closers."
  11. Can an error be charged to the official scorer?
  12. What's to keep them from pitching around him to get to Joe? (My napkin calculation says if Dozier has 4 and is on pace for 58, Mauer with 1 must be on pace for... 14.5. I guess that's 14 and a ground rule double?) Oh right. He can run too! Is there anything he can't do?
  13. Ya got me good! Anyway, i still look forward to tomorrow's game!
  14. Good to hear. Yup, it is always wise to know the limitations of your tools. Brought up the Field view in game day, and yeah, that is an awful lot of outs to the left side of the infield. Thanks for the additional info.
  15. Looks like i missed a good game, if not a close. (and i thought i'd be here for most of it) A Mauer 3 run dinger and a Dozier dinger backed good Nolasco pitching, leastwise from the box score. Anything else of greater excitement? (I always like good fielding, and highlights are less prone to include it. And i guess i'll read the rest of the thread soon enough...)
  16. 1. Wait. Do we have to score runs on rainy days? I thought those games were rescheduled... Alas, imagining a game where you could save runs for when you needed them most would just be weird. "It's the September, the Tigers are 7 games ahead, which isn't insurmountable, but they have 90 runs in hand..." 4. That's cleanup, right! Colabello! Square up perfectly on the ball! (and, as i'm commenting on perfect squares...) 9. Lipstick. (always confused me why thoughts only went up to 5 with that 9 floating down there in the signature. But yeah, 5 are hard enough to write well on a regular basis. Gotta pace yourself for the whole season.) Anyway, go twins!
  17. Ah, here's a good movie quote (though i'm not good enough to get it in its full glory) "Failure should not lead to despair, for despair looks only to the past"... "to fail (fall!) and rise again!" -(which is what brought it to mind) "uptity-toenails!" is somewhere in it too...
  18. Agreed. (Though i did like seeing them tie the middle one in the 9th.)
  19. Ah, well done. "That baseball hit the glove, and I was never here." And it is kind of challenging to come up with movie quotes relevant to the game. Good exercise...
  20. Right on! (And movies are interesting, as i expect TD folk span a large enough group that not everyone has seen everything. I think i got ~2/3rds, but will be glad to learn what the rest are from)
  21. (Catching up on the game...) It does look like we're hitting the ball. Plouffe does seem to be doing well. And Kubel too. (Though i think he smoked one off a left handed A's starter too, so not too surprising?) Anyway, I can't complain about the crooked numbers when we're not pitching.
  22. "yeah, tell him about the twinkie."
  23. I read it, and thought it was a set up for a guitar joke. And a timely one too. Isn't Gibson pitching next? (Someone's avatar already makes that joke though.) Regarding Coach Gardenhire's tenure. I personally expect the team to turn around enough this season and the next that his seat isn't as hot as some think it is. I may be a stary-eyed optimist, and I'm okay with that.
  24. Not this time i guess... Anyhow, Thanks all for the company!
  25. ... 6 runs in less than 3 outs... can we do it?!
