    With the Twins batting averages so low, I am choosing to view it positively. If all things even out over the course of a season, we are going to go on one hell of a tear at some point in the season....but I'm an optimist!

    I am an Arod skeptic. While the media is going gaga about how the ball is jumping off his bat and how remarkable it is for a 39 year old man on the decline of his career to be performing at such a high level after sitting out a year, I remain doubtful. Some would say he is probably being tested multiple times a week. Actually, he will be tested randomly 9 times this year and every year that he plays - 3 blood tests, 6 urine tests according to Section 3.D of the league’s Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program which specifies that any player disciplined for violating the drug program shall be subject to mandatory follow-up testing, including six unannounced urine collections and three unannounced blood collections over the 12-month period following the violation as well as each subsequent year of the player’s career as long as he’s on a 40-man roster. I'd like to point out that Arod has never tested positive for PEDs, even though he has admitted to doing them. He was only caught because the lab he was working with was busted. He knows his way around the testing as do the other MLB players who faced suspensions but never tested positive for PED's. Is Arod a changed man? Would he lie again to the fans of baseball who have forgiven him and come out to support him? Color me skeptical.

    I know this is off topic, but am I the only one skeptical of A-Rod's fast start? He's 39, out of baseball for a year, had seen his bat speed decline when he was last playing, and now he's suddenly rejuvenated and killing the ball. Hmmmm....what could cause that? Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice...not buying it!

    Here's hoping that last night's game will become the norm. Low scoring, solid defense (although Robinson in left was shaky), and competitive. I don't expect the Twins to win more than they lose, but be competitive. Also, I know we are holding off on bringing up the young guys, but I've seen nothing from Robinson or Shaefer that makes me think they are better than anything in the minors. If it's about winning now, give me the best players. Just my two pennies.

    For me, it isn't the lack of hitting that has me thinking the worst. Hitting usually normalizes as the season goes on barring injuries. The lack of basic defense concerns me the most along with the poor pitching. Not scoring runs gets you beat. Not playing good defense when your pitching is bad gets you killed. Nobody wants to watch a game that is over by the 6th inning unless it is kids who only play 6 innings.

    I liked the signing of Phil Hughes because he is the right age to sign a guy to a 4 year contract. I hated the Santana signing. A look at nearly every pitcher will show that very, very few get better after 30 and most fall off a cliff at 32. No matter if they are a starting pitcher or a reliever. TR may not like advanced metrics but he can't deny that age does matter...unless you are on PED's (Roger Clemens improved after 32)....oh, wait...

    As far as Molly's managing...you can't polish a turd. It won't matter what lineup he throws out there, we are worse than our opponents at well over half of the positions on the field when you combine the defensive and offensive skills of these players. You can't win with that just like you can't polish a turd.

    Good news - Twins tickets will be cheap. Bad news - If I take my kids, they might learn how to play bad baseball. What a a dilemna!

    As they introduce the players, the music sounded like the theme to Starsky and Hutch or some other 70's TV series.

    Why would they walk Arcia with 2 outs? Dude will go up and wave at anything thrown. Wouldn't have surprised me to see him swing at an intentional ball.

    Not really a prototypical 3rd baseman. Normally, you'd want some pop there. Not necessarily buying the Sox vastly improved team. Maybe some better, but not a contender as I see it.

    OK, I'm trying to stay positive here so how about this? If the Twins play .500 ball the rest of the year, we would finish with 78 wins. 78-84....doesn't sound that bad compared to the previous 4 years does it? Yeah....keep those positive thoughts and puppy pictures coming.

    I normally watch most of the Twins games, but after those 3 in Detroit, I'm more excited to watch video highlights of Sano, Hicks, Buxton, whoever than watching the Twins. I just see very few players that seem like they want to be there. Escobar looks like he wants to play...Schaefer not so much. I like Tori getting fired up at Joe West. Give me a guy that takes a bat to the Gatorade container over the guy that just sits there spitting seeds.
