  1. A RH bat with pop is the ideal, and that would mean Wilkin Ramirez or Chris Colabello. Obviously a five-man bench would be best, but that won't happen in April, for sure.
  2. Look, Gibson isn't going to pitch more than 140-150 innings and that is smart. Would you really rather have him finish the season out by not pitching for all of September? I am not convinced that the "best 25" argument applies in obvious losing seasons if a few of those players could get better for the future with some time in AAA.
  3. I would prefer that they both start at AAA. Most of what I have said about Gibson and AAA to start the year has been disregarded, but it seems to make sense to me. I am not going to repeat it here. Hicks is definitely a different case. I don't know how the lineup gets constructed without him, I suppose, so he has that going for him.
  4. I do think it is time for Hendriks to just be turned free in MLB and no more of this AAA stuff. He already demonstrated improvement near the end of the season last year and is going to be building off of that this year. He is worth more going forward for the Twins than Pelfrey, Deduno, and DeVries (and Correia . . . and Blackburn).
  5. Yeah, I agree with you that this is what likely should take place. Will it take place is another story. There really isn't a lack of 5th starters up in here. Last time I will ever say it: but that fact of 5th starter depth (with Hendriks hopefully creeping up to 4th) makes the Correia signing over-the-top terrible.
  6. Personally, Jim, I wouldn't mind seeing Pineda up there with the hope that he does very well and becomes a tradeable commodity (regift?) to an organization with oufield holes. Anyway, this looks pretty good. Roberts, Ortiz, and Morales are the second wave of OF prospects and I hope they do well. Also, that Cedar Rapids OF is ridiculous. I want to go to there.
  7. Diamond Worley Correia Hendriks DeVries/Pelfrey would work for me out of the gate.
  8. Eduardo Escobar is not going to be on the roster into the next decade. That would mean that several prospects have all faltered and the Twins did nothing about it.
  9. I would say that the "best 25" argument ignores those few players who although they may be in the top 25, might benefit from time in AAA and may end up being better in 2014 and beyond if some caution is used in 2013, which is clearly a dubious season for the Twins unless the Tigers have some serious injuries. Gibson, Hicks, and Arcia are in the best 25, I think. But x pitcher, Mastro, and Ramirez/Boggs might be better options to start out with.
  10. He has two sets of problems currently. First, Pedro Florimon/Brian Dozier, Drew Butera, and Chris Colabello. Second, his Butera-like numbers in MLB and his pretty bad offensive numbers in his entire minor league career.
  11. I don't agree at all. Duensing is used best against lefties and has no business pitching more than inning or so in the role of a lefty specialist.
  12. How on earth is there even any question about this?
  13. I would expect a .290/.350/.480 line from him at Cedar Rapids. And that would be damn good for a 20-year-old. He's fairly Mauer-like with increased power and some decreased plate discipline. I would DEFINITELY hope that if things go well he gets promoted for a month to Fort Myers. The future OF of Kepler-Buxton-Hicks is RIDICULOUS.
  14. Just wanted to share this from work tonight at my second job. Very glad that someone got video of this as it ended up being the top play on Sportscenter http://www.jconline.com/interactive/article/20130301/SPORTS0104/303010052/Heard-s-heave-lifts-McCutcheon-thrilling-56-53-victory-over-Logansport-VIDEO-
  15. There is a legitimate concern that pushing him up so fast could actually diminish his ability in the long term as it is the case that there are significantly learning steps at each stop in the minors. Also, I am being nice about even addressing this. It is PREPOSTEROUS to look at a few spring training games and come to such conclusions as this one. Also, Eddie is NOT major league ready at second base. For the record, I am a critic of the uber-slow approach this organization takes in moving prospects--I would like to see players moved to AA and AAA faster--but in this case, patience is a virtue. Eddie Rosario at age 23 is going to be a delight. Finally, and this is directed generally and not at you specifically: I am amused by the turn towards Rosario now after the reaction to his 2012 season initially. The dude is good and the 2012 actually support that pretty clearly. There is no reason to lower him significantly. But it is also flat-out dumb to get crazy about ST numbers.
  16. I appreciate the article. I think it is probably best for all sorts of reasons to keep him in Rochester for about 6 weeks and have him on an innings limit there that is fairly severe. 50ish innings there and then 100 with the Twins. This would mean that he pitches from April through September which is worthwhile in his case considering the fact that I believe 2010 is the last time he pitched a full season. There is no reason to hate upon the idea that having Gibson end his season in September as opposed to August is better going into 2014. This is not a vacuum. September 2013 SHOULD be the time when we are guaranteed to see much of the Twins future: Hendriks, Gibson, Hermsen (maybe), Herrmann, Hicks, Benson, Arcia, Dozier, perhaps even Santana, and perhaps a few relievers like Guerra, Oliveros, Watts, Pugh, and Hauser. I like seeing the future in September as opposed to shutting a guy like Gibson down and then ending the season in lackluster fashion. The service time issue is not central to my argument here. The future is central, and if there is an innings limit, I would like to see Gibson end the season starting with the Twins in September.
  17. He needs a solid season at Cedar Rapids. I would love for him to get a taste of A+ baseball near the end of the season, but that is doubtful. With even a .800 OPS he will be jumpiing up on prospect lists.
  18. They are not going to hold him back three months. On the other hand I think that having to shut him down at the end of August is pretty dumb and not the right way to end the season when looking forward to 2014.
  19. The Twins will likely surprise this year, but only in the +8-10 range. So 74-76 wins is my prediction right now. This would be contingent a bit upon how the trade deadline works, but there is enough talent that would come up at that point will make up for the loss of Morneau, Willingham, and perhaps Burton and Duensing. Hopefully the Twins are smart and Gibson still has 30+ innings to pitch in September. Hopefully Harden is still healthy by that time too. I would expect Hicks, Benson, Arcia, Herrmann, and Colabello to be contributing offensively, and in a substantially way at the end of the year.
  20. Nice article. That was good and I shared the info on Facebook for peeps. That's pretty rare for me to do that from something around here.
  21. Rosario needs to work for at least a year+ at second base defensively. Maybe September 2014.
  22. I would like to see him pitch for the entire season. I am not at all sure what is so crazy about that. This would mean pitching April through September and this can be done while keeping him under 150 innings.
  23. Holy crap, those relievers are battling for probably two spots, if not one.
  24. He bats left-handed. Full stop. But I'll go on. Adding a guy who can do one thing when the bench already has a guy who can only do one thing (Butera) is not a good idea.
  25. Blergh. Pressly threw plenty of innings last year and is suited for the role. If he sucks in April, they can probably trade off Bigley and Pimentel in a trade. If he manages to be decent enough in 2013, then that is a good chance to take for the future. Swarzak, Roenicke, and Wood are no future options. This is clear.
