  1. Put out the Welcome MAT.
  2. Trivia question from the radio crew... Who are the five current MLB pitchers that were battery mates to Mauer? Who comes to mind? (And if you're listening, let someone else give it a shot.)
  3. You know, I haven't seen that many "DFA Kepler" posts lately.
  4. I see it as a cheap roll-of-the-dice, easily dismissed as needed. Hopefully it’s them saying they need a placeholder for a few days until Kirilloff returns.
  5. He went on the IL June 27, so that’s something like Aug. 25, which is only three weeks from now. I don’t think this move means much in terms of rehab. I’m not saying he won’t miss the rest of the year, but it’s doubtful he’d be back in three weeks even in a best-case scenario.
  6. To add, I’d have to check on this to verify, but it seems I’ve heard somewhere that the Twins have lost a bunch of playoff games in a row. I think they must have lost this one as well. 😀
  7. They finished second, but received a wild card, making the playoffs for the first time in seven years. Arguably, the Big Sexy game was the most significant of the year. They had just lost 8 of 10 and this started a string of winning 7 of 9. As noted, the team and fans seemed to bring a new level of energy.
  8. I tend to assume the best in people, so I have a sense this is another time when the front office was very up front with him, keeping him abreast of their thinking and their desire for him to stay around. There’s something to be said for treating an employee with dignity. I read a Tweet from his wife that suggested the same.
  9. Was hoping for more than 2-4 on this road trip, but after Kansas City, I’ll take it. Chief not being here, I think the Magic Number is now 51.
  10. So far, so good, from the pen. Let’s get about eight here and turn it over to Willie Castro.
  11. Indeed. A few weeks ago, my son reminded me it was the 24th anniversary of his first baseball game — Twins at St. Louis on a sweltering evening. I still have the image in my head of my 6 and 3-year-old sons in their seats, drenched in sweat.
  12. Dyslexic? Mrs. IT was a special ed teacher for 15 years before taking early retirement. She had a t-shirt that always drew a smile: “Dyslexics are Teople Poo.”
  13. Have to say — I became a caretaker a half-hour ago, and I’m really liking the No Ads feature. Wow!
  14. I think I’m with you, but the “feels like” temp is still 86. Not sure what it was at game time.
  15. Thanks. And oops — they run together sometimes.
  16. It was nice to have Sands go three innings last night to preserve the bullpen.
  17. Cardinals radio guys offered an interesting idea. Identify a threshold number on the number of reversal calls for an umpire over the course of a season. Once the ump exceeds that number, the manager gets to come out and eject the ump.
  18. I’m a plagiarator. And apologies for getting to the Game Thread a little late. Mrs. IT gave me a to-do list. I did numbers 1, 3, 5 and 7. When she asked why I didn’t do the rest, I told her that I only do odd jobs.
  19. The Italian name, Liberatore, had me thinking about Latin etymologies as well. I read an interesting tidbit the other day. Originally, Latin words often used “-tor” males and “-trix” for females. So, aviator is a male pilot and aviatrix is a female pilot. The executor is a male who carries out the instructions of a will, whereas an executrix is a female doing the same. More recently, folks have started to use “-tor” for all adults, because “-trix” are for kids.
  20. Same here. MLB Audio is nice in that regard.
  21. Agreed. I caught the end of an interview with Ryan as I turned on the radio. It sounds very legit. And athletes certainly know what it’s like to have a groin injury.
