  1. 8/120 is closer to what it takes. Because I am guessing Jay-Z is licking his chops at a 27 year old Sano hitting the free agent market.
  2. Hey Benji, I get the strategy. I just have a few reservations and don't want us to overthink this. If this is truly a 1A and 1B type of draft, I doubt that the financial savings will allow for a great second pick, should all the ducks fall in a row. And the Twins have historically been about the least creative franchise in the game on similar matters, or in other areas like the international pool, so I just don't see it happening. I get that we have a new front office, but after the token rule 5 pick, the minor league contracts, and patchwork pen I have not seen the deviation I expected. It is fun to talk about, debate, and run scenarios but I think you will be underwhelmed. If we have the first pick and take who we deem the best player, than I will take that as a win.
  3. I am not overly concerned about the Twins saving money.
  4. We simply can't let money impact this draft.
  5. Pen and don't think twice. But higher leverage spots.
  6. Agree that Our OF defense is relying on Buxton turning it around at the plate. If he is sent down at some point, Rosario or Kepler shifts to CF and Santana/Grossman is out there. We are worse in two spots. Buxton needs more reps. But in 2 weeks if he is still as lost he could be down.

  8. I really don't like the Delmon Young comps. He had a terrible attitude. He didn't listen to coaches and he didn't keep himself in good condition. That is a makeup issue moreso than a talent/tools issue. That is part of the homework you have to do.
  9. No such thing as a can't miss prospect. I get it. But it looks near universal that this kid is the top prospect and we have the first Pick. So you take him.
  10. Unreal amount of prospects here. It seems like long term the Twins will have Gordon at SS and Polanco at 2B, with Dozier likely traded and it would seem unlikely to be extended. So we could have another Twins blunder in the making of Gordon plays mostly at 2B.
  11. While they can trade these guys at any time, the question of return is key. I am of the opinion that in the offseason you have teams interested that may be out of it in July. And right now Dozier had two years left vs 1 year and 2 months in July. And the guy put up 40 plus HR last year. Odds are stacked against an increase in his stock price. A similar case could be made for Ervin Santana. The big issue for me is we have been terrible since 2011. If we were to ask ourselves which actions have the Twins taken in these 6 years that you would expect given the record? I could count a total of two rebuild type moves. The Span trade and the Revere trade. Two is not enough in six years. Now I know I just opened the door for someone to tell me that these moves haven't worked out. Had we made 10 of them, several would have worked out. That is what we needed to do. A few examples would be Dozier. Perkins. Willingham. Creativity around international free agents. Sign some flip candidates in free agency, etc.
  12. My issue with that logic is if this new group is as analytical as we were sold, you could glean a lot of information about Danny Santana or Craig Breslow in a spreadsheet, fangraphs, or internal databases. And I would venture to bet a GM has access to every MLB pitch or AB a particular player has had in their MLB career.
  13. I don't really care if we have 13 pitchers. I would just wish we used the extra pitcher to break on Chargois, then Melotakis and Burdi. That is a much better use of that roster spot than another backup INF. Using it in another 30 something reliever doesn't make sense to me though.
  14. it would be a shame if we sat Polanco because he was below average at SS. He should be at 2B
  15. The problem with the just wait until May 15, or the opening day roster doesn't matter that much is that we heard the same thing for seven years. We haven't done the things that a rebuilding, bad team should do.
  16. It isn't just the opening day roster. Their are several things about this roster that I don't like. But it is much broader than this roster. I personally thought we would see drastic changes from the past and I haven't seen much of anything. I would have expected to see at least 6-7 of these things: Dozier traded for young starting pitching Ervin traded for young starting pitching. Danny Santana not invited to spring training. A new head coach A new pitching coach More turnover in the front office More young, high upside signings (former top picks/prospects yet to find their way or stayed healthy) Fewer signings of guys over 30 A trade of one of Buxton, Sano, Kepler, or Rosario for young starting pitching. Or some other sign that the new front office realizes That until we improve our pitching we won't be relevant. It seems like the new front office is more interested in being able to say we won 5-10 more games this year and take credit for it than creating a blueprint that will make a meaningful, sustained run towards relevance. The most important component of our new front office should have been an understanding during the interview process that the goal is not to win 5 more games next year. But to win 30-35 more 2-4 years down the road. This is on ownership. That is and will continue to be the issue for the Twins
  17. The guy puts up nearly a 1.000 OPS over 115 games and the Twins tell him to go the other way more. Ok. Got it.
  18. Completely agree Mike. If this was the team and this was the approach, Dozier and Ervin have no reason to be on this team. Zero. Put me in the camp of hoping that a new FO would at least have a plan. I don't see a plan. The only positive thing they did was sign Castro who may help break some young pitchers in. But at this rate he won't be on the next good team. Heck, we actually got older by swapping Meyer for Santiago, who also won't be on the next good team.
  19. And to add on. I love that the new front office has assembled a pitching staff that they somehow have zero faith in AND has no upside prospects. That is an accomplishment. If you weren't going to have faith in them, maybe give me a little upside
  20. What exactly has Paul Molitor accomplished as a manager that should give him any say whatsoever as to who should head north? He has been no different than Ron Gardenhire. And by the looks of it our new FO looks a lot like Terry Ryan.
  21. When Mauer needs a rest they will put Grossman at 1B and DH Danny Santana. My source said they reached out to Jason Tyner but he is firmly retired.
  22. Asking for 30-1 odds maybe the least confident I have seen someone in a prediction in a long time. He is 1 of 7 guys on the opening day pen.
  23. Here is the struggle for me. It is year 7 of the rebuild and Chargois does not make the team because we can't trust him based on limited MLB experience and a few poor spring training outings. Meanwhile Danny Santana will likely make the team. All three outfielders can play CF. Escobar can too. And at minimum, Polanco and Escobar can play SS. Santana is not going to hit for anyone and he will maybe run for 2-3 players. What is the better use of that 25th spot? Would you rather have an extra reliever to break in Chargois or have Santana sit there and play twice a week so he "stays fresh"? It would be a tough sell to convince me we should worry about the backup to the backup SS. What say you?
  24. Their needs to be A better working relationship between MLB and the WBC. It seems like adding a few games and inning minimums for each pitcher on the roster would be an easy way to avoid issues like this. Or hell, allowing a Twins staff memeber to accompany a guy like Berrios and work him on the side so he can both play for his country and further his MLB career. A 22 year old should not have to pick between the two.
